Oh how I wish I could leave this place a better review- but you must never ever go here, at least not any time the midges are out. We were eaten alive.
The hotel itself is dated but quaint- and initially we were very pleased- but OMG, the midges! It was broiling hot in our room, so we had to crack the window- and in came the midges. When we got back to the room, and found them swarming, we closed the window, turned the light on in the bathroom, to attract them, and slept with that light on and the dark in our room. So many of them died on the floor and the washbowl it looked like we'd gone wild with pepper! But even with the carnage in the bathroom we were bitten all over- we're still itching. Nasty.
It's too bad, because the food was quite nice and the area is lovely. There's even a kirk across the way on a country lane, and a lovely war monument and a small river- with a rope swing! (go through the gate of the community garden to reach the river easily).
The stone bridge gives you a lovely view of the mountains.
But the midges! I'd never return.
Note- I had to see a doctor for my midge bites. Am on both oral and topical mediation. read more
