Great little place. The front doesn't look like much, but once you go inside, it's small, quaint, and A/C free, so you might not want to frequent it on a warm night. The day we were there was limited menu, just the Pho. Still it was excellent, with rich broth. The meat was cut a bit thicker than I'm used to, but very tender. The Vietnamese coffee was outstanding. Not sure how it fares against the other top Vietnamese eatery, but we enjoyed our meal! read more

Based on the review and it's closed to our hotel in Oslo, we went for a quick vietnamese dinner there. The Pho (soup with beef broth and there kinds of beef - meat ball, raw and cooked) and the Goi Quon (fresh spring roll with rice paper, pork, shrimp and vegetables. They both are good in Oslo. The restaurant is convenient ly locating near downtown area, small but a cozy one. The service is good. If you are travel far away to the Baltics countries and want some hot soup, this is the place. Update 25 Nov, 2014: Tried the bun thit nuong 105kr, the slice beef were really tender and very well marinated with aromatic lemongrass and spring onion. Though the rice vermicelli they used are a little thicker than the usual and smoother which didnt really soak in the chili fish sauce. Nonetheless, it is a good bowl of noodle salads and they deserved another star... After living in Houston, Texas for 10 years where it boast the 2nd largest Vietnamese population outside Vietnam, I had tried a range of pho from the really bland ones to those where they sold out by noon. From very sweet based broth to beefy and herbal broth... and let's just say that both the pho and bun bo hue broth made by Dalat Cafe lacks of any kind of "real" spices & protein! Cost NOK105 (approx USD13) per bowl (as of Oct, 2014), i dont see any reason for me to go back for any of the soup based noodle but i might try the bun thit nuong instead... At the time of writing this review, I'm currently on vacation in Oslo and just stopped by here on my first evening in the city for an early dinner. I had already scoped it out ahead of time thanks to fabulous fellow yelpers, so i knew it would be good. After roaming around the city for a long day, during which the streets were packed for constitution day, my mom and i were borderline tired, starving and grouchy. It took a while to find this place, but when we finally did, we were thrilled. Yes, it looks like a dingy dive from the outside, but inside it's not bad and the food is fantastic. That's what counts after all, right? I ordered the No. 17, which is what i would always get when I ordered vietnamese food back home in the States. It was the grilled beef with vermicelli noodles, carrots, cucumbers, bean sprouts, lettuce, cilantro and a sweet/sour vinegar sauce. My mom, after much hemming and hawing because the menu was only in vietnamese or norwegian (and our server did not speak english), ordered a chicken teriyaki based dish with noodles and onions. Great flavor. Ton of food. She was not disappointed. We also ordered a coffee drink, which was so strong it almost knocked our socks off. We had to water it down for sure. Overall,the meal was delicious and was a good amount of food.The service was a bit lacking as the server never came back to check on us and i had to flag him down for the bill, but perhaps that's just how things are done here in Norway. Finally, keep in mind this is considered a budget restaurant in this very expensive city. Our entire meal was 239 nok (approximately $50 USD) and that is basically a bargain around here, unless you want a cheap hot dog from a food vendor on the street. This meal may have cost us a total of $20 back home, but we can appreciate it's value considering where we are, and since it was a great meal and a large amount of food, we left satisfied. Back home in the States, this place would be called, a hole in the wall, a greasy spoon place, a dive etc. And still be a town's favorite for the food. Good and special. This place is recommend for just that reason. They were also attentive to each visitor with rapid service and educational conversation. The waitress and owner, one would assume by her relaxed but sharp style she worked. Even more sharp was her broken Norwegian as she willingly elaborated in answering questions about the menu and the various choice of dishes. Still a fan of this place. It's been years since I first visited this place and reported back for yelp for others' enlightment place in notoriously expensive Oslo and I was looking forward to testing the water whether their menu was still as good as before. The place still looks obscure than ever and it looks exactly the same but little more crowded this time. The service was still very nice, I got a menu right away with a smile and the waiter (who was probably the owner's son?) patiently waited when I told him that I was waiting for a friend - that turned out to be 15 minutes late. I ordered number 15 (the egg noodle soup with wontons) and my friend ordered the classic pho (number 13). The portion was still as big as I remembered and the taste was still good. It was such a hearty meal especially during the -8C temperature that night. The price was a little bit increased this time (it was a litlte bit over 100 kr, can't remember precisely) but that was fair enough since it was also so long time ago I was there so with the inflation and all, I think it was pretty decent price for dinner menu). read more

Just a quick update: As of sometime in June 2013, they started taking Norwegian credit cards ie bank cards. Seriously! I can't get enough of the pho here. I sit at work and dream about it, especially when it is freezing in my office. Since the last time I wrote a review, I have tried pho at three places in California in highly pho populated area and none compared to Dalat. The last time I was here, we started talking to the owner or at least one of the cooks who explained to us that it takes 10 hours to make the broth for the pho because she makes everything from scratch. Something this good should not be allowed to be as cheap as it is and it should not be allowed to be across the street from me. Also, their spring rolls are still the bomb. They are served piping hot and the service is so fast, your spring rolls haven't been able to cool down to edible temperature before your pho is served. Do I love this place? Yes, yes I really do and the day that I move, I will shed a tear for not having this place at my finger tips. read more

De lat is perhaps better known for their pho than the other dishes. The pho at de lat is well balanced in flavor and the broth is filled with umami. Noodles has nice chew and beef slices are very tender. The flavor is further enhanced by add chilies, bean sprouts, lime, basil, and Asian parsley. My only issue with them really is that their pho no longer has beef tendon. I understand that it is not everybody's cup of tea, but us Asians love the stuff! It would be nice to have the option to have it included. But by far De Lat has the best Pho in Oslo Sentrum. read more

I ate in this place a few times but only for its grilled beef vermicelli. It's grilled beef is fantastic. I went there again last week because of the review that it serves the best pho bo in Oslo. For pho bo, I normally eat in Lille Saigon or Asian Tapas. I decided to try this out since it has such positive feedback. My expectation is high....so the disappointment is bad. I don't think it has the best Pho Bo in Oslo. It is just Ok. The broth is a bit lighter than Lille Saigon. The beef was a bit overcooked. Sigh....I will stick to ordering the grilled beef vermicelli if I go to this cafe again. read more

If I was rating this restaurant compared to other Pho restaurants in California where I live, this would easily be a 3. However, compared to the other asian restaurants available in Oslo, it's closer to 4 stars. I understand that there is a lack of authentic Vietnamese restaurants in Oslo compared to what we can find in the States. My husband and I were craving Vietnamese food after eating hearty Norwegian food on our vacation. We ordered the beef pho, hu tieu nam vang and eggrolls. Both soups had good flavor, lots of meat and satisfied our craving. I only wish the egg rolls had more lettuce/vegetables served with them for wrapping because that's how I'm used to eating them back home. Otherwise, good service and the prices were reasonable for Oslo ($38 USD for 2 of us). read more

Being on Asian on vacation, I had to get my Asian food fix, so we decided to come here. The place was very Asian looking, and there were more Asian people in the restaurant than I've seen for a long time. The menu isn't too extensive, though it does have pho, bun no hue, spring rolls, vermicelli, your usual Vietnamese noodle cuisine. There were also rice dishes, but I didn't know what they were. One downside was the lack of English on the menus! Anyhow, I got a beef vermicelli (they didn't have any other meat options for vermicelli I think), and it was better than I was expecting. The beef flavor was pretty good, but the meat was a bit tougher than it could have been. In my bowl were noodles, cucumber, lettuce that could have been chopped up more, fried onions, and meat. It was a pretty decent amount of food and the ingredients were fine. On the cheaper side for Norway, "only" cost 125 NOK. read more

Super friendly staff, affordable prices, and hands down the best Pho in Oslo. The location is great, but make sure you calculate in a wait as it tends to get super busy in the evenings. This is as great as it gets when it comes to finding authentic pho in Oslo. It's a typical no frills, bigger-than-hole-in-the-wall but smaller than a typical restaurant. Owners are nice and carefree - playing cards on one table and smiled at me when they saw me coming inside. They have great Pho for 115 kr, summer rolls for 49 (2) and lots of other dishes like Pad Thai and so on. Quite authentic taste. Really fantastic pho and pork soup (similar to pho, it comes with that delicious platter of Thai basil, sawtooth, sprouts, lime, etc.) Don't be turned off by the unassuming graffiti'ed outside - the restaurant is pleasant and clean, though the incense can be a little intense sometimes. Staff is friendly and helpful every time, and will help with explaining the menu to English-speakers. Pho all day everyday! That was my motto when I was in Vietnam for 7 weeks this past summer. I was pretty nervous about coming back to Norway and not being able to induldge in the complex and fresh flavors of vietnamese cuisine, but when I heard Oslo had a handful of vietnamese restaurants my nerves calmed and I felt a wave of happiness flood over me. And boy oh boy was I thrilled when I mischievously persuaded Tine to host a Vietnamese Yelp dinner ! The place is quaint, it felt more like a living room or tight family quarters. I loved it. Took me right back to my favorite Pho place in Hanoi. The menu had many options, however I had not come in with an open mind at all to try something new, I was determined to eat Pho and immediately ordered #13 and didn't look back. And ill tell you what it was the best decision I made that day. My sister on the other hand went for #14 and it was especially unique in flavor and color, I will be trying that next time! The service was kind, homey and quick. The prices were beautiful and matched the surprisingly large bowls that we all received. I was honestly so surprised by the quality there, I cant tell you enough how happy I was to be eating real vietnamese cuisine in Oslo. Tried this tiny Vietnamese cafe-style restaurant yesterday due to the massive positive response from fellow Yelpers, and it lived up to my expectations! As everyone else states - I wouldn't dream of going in if I hadn't known that the food would be great. On first glance, I actually thought it was closed, and there was just one other guest when I arrived with a friend at 17.30 on a tuesday. By the time we left, however, the place was packed, which is saying something in Oslo in the middle of the summer holidays (the place only seats a limited number, but still)! Service was swift and pleasant, and both of our pho soups (vietnamese noodle soup) arrived within 10 minutes of placing our order. Tap water was also supplied without our having to ask, so I give the staff the thumbs up. Now, about the food. I have only ever tried pho in London (which has a bountiful supply of good Vietnamese restaurants), where I fell in love with it - thus, I cannot determine whether the pho at Dalat holds up against the stuff served on the streets of Vietnam. My beef pho (number 13) was, however, just how I expected it to be - fragrant, full flavoured and served with an ample amount of greenery (herbs, sprouts, chili and lime). The meat consisted of beef slivers and meatballs, where the latter were uncommonly tasty. The portions were so large that neither I nor my friend were able to finish it all (a rare occasion for me!), and at 99NOK, I consider it a very budget-friendly meal, indeed. As other Yelpers have mentioned, the beer (0.33cl) is also extremely cheap at 39NOK. Summed up: great authentic vietnamese food at a bargain price means you can satisfy your pho cravings any time without breaking the bank - believe the hype and go! read more

Who knew you could get fantastic pho in Norway? But you really can and this place has it going on! Not such a great place from the outside, but to me, that's a sure sign of great food on the inside. Restaurants that focus too much of the decor always seem to lack in the food quality. The pho and spring rolls were to die for. It stands up to the Vietnamese places on the west coast of the USA. Like many hole in the wall places, the food are most likely to taste good. This restaurant was the first Vietnamese restaurant that I had been to since leaving California that tastes authentic and delicious. I had the Hu Tieu Nam Vang, growing up my mom would make this and I would eat it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This place doesn't disappoint and it hit all of my craving for home cooked Vietnamese food. read more
