However, the only reason I'm deducting a point is that you can't add points to your Dairy Queen account for rewards at this location because the register hasn't been updated for this. Despite this minor inconvenience, it's still a great place to visit. Just be prepared for limited seating, as there are only three outside benches. My family has been coming here for years, even before many of the other businesses in Long Beach, or Oak Island. Ordered a double fudge cookie dough blizzard and it was runny like a milkshake, not made right. So I asked to just give a heath as they couldn't mess it up but there was almost no heath in a large. Had my wife take up to see if they would add some heath as there wasn't any in it, they refused and the girl was very rude. She was getting off work and passed us when she was leaving and heard hear saying some not so nice things under her breath. the ice cream itself wasn't fresh and tasted almost freezer burnt also. The crisp bite, the rich peanut butter filling, the way they paired perfectly with a cold glass of milk. A staple of childhood, a beacon of joy in the darkest of times. But what happened to me--what befell my poor, unsuspecting cookie--was an act so vile that I hesitate to put it into words. Someone, somewhere, had shot a load into my Nutter Butter. I do not say this lightly. I do not exaggerate for the sake of drama. I only wish I were. The moment I bit into what I assumed was an innocent treat, I knew something was wrong. The texture--off. The warmth--unnatural. The taste--an insult to the very concept of flavor. At first, I tried to rationalize. Maybe the peanut butter had melted. Maybe the factory had suffered some bizarre, unholy malfunction. But no. As the realization hit, so too did the horror, like a wave crashing over me, pulling me into an ocean of despair from which I could not surface. I dropped the cookie immediately, my hands shaking, my stomach churning. My trust had been shattered. My innocence--gone. How does one move forward from such an experience? How does one continue to exist knowing that even the most sacred of snacks is not safe from the twisted hands of fate? I contacted customer service. They had questions. I had more. In the end, there were no answers--only a silence that echoed through the void of my shattered expectations. When I grew up in the Bronx, we had heard about Dairy Queen but there were none that I knew of in my neighborhood. When I had 50 cents to spare I usually headed to Carvel or bought an ice cream from one of the many trucks that rode through our neighborhood ranging from Good Humor to Bungalow Bar Jump ahead to 1989. I am living in Rutherford, New Jersey with my wife, Susan and our two young children Erik and Devon. One of the reasons I wanted to move to Rutherford was I noticed that they had a Dairy Queen and somehow in my mind that sounded very cool and an omen of a good place for us to live. Suddenly, I was able to say to Susan and the kids, "Who wants to DQ?" Hands went up, we hopped in the car and within a couple of minutes we were at the Rutherford Dairy Queen. I remember how cute the kids looked after devouring a soft serve cone with sprinkles and half of it was all over their face. Sweet memories It's 2019 and my friend, Michael and I head down to my place for a couple of days. It's his first time to my place and to the North Carolina beaches. We had a great time. Of course we hit the DQ and he bought me a large mint chocolate chip grasshopper type blizzard. I never had a large before. I went into a coma halfway through and swore I would save the rest for another day. It was gone before bedtime. So delicious It's 2020 and we are in the heart of the pandemic. Thank God, I had Oak Island to run to when I needed a reminder of what life used to be and the ability to walk around freely on the beach without a mask. I cannot tell you how many times during the pandemic I ran down to my little place to have some sense of normalcy and remember how beautiful the world really is. I would go by the Dairy Queen on Oak Island Drive which is as much a part of Oak Island life as are the turtles that hatch during the summer time. I order a vanilla soft serve dipped cone in chocolate. Memories of having something similar at the Carvel. The tall Dairy Queen sign is gone and all that stands is a cracked concrete base. One of the hurricanes blew it away. I wonder if they will ever put another one back. I miss seeing it It's 2021 and although we are still living in the pandemic, Amy and all her family decide to come down to Oak Island and rent an oceanfront house. All my kids come down as well. For one week there was no covid, there were no masks, there was no fear of dying. Just a week of sand and water and laughter and good eating and relaxing and talking and resting and swimming and sandcastle building and turtle watching and friendship and family.. and Dairy Queen. As Jordana and I ate our desserts in the parking lot of the Dairy Queen, I turned to her and asked her as a doctor in her opinion if there was covid here in the parking lot. Without a moment of hesitation she turned to me and said, "Of course. It's everywhere". Boy, did she turn out to be right. Everyone one of us has either had it or knows somebody close to us who has had it. I remember the conversation, but I also remember that even though we were all living in fear, the line at the Dairy Queen was very long and the parking lot was packed. If I am to die, let it be with an ice cream spoon in my mouth and rainbow sprinkles all over my face! Eating ice cream or soft serve out tends to be a little bit on the expensive side but in the world of crazy prices, this Dairy Queen is okay. But what you will get for sure is something cold, smooth and delicious filled with good memories and a great taste!! read more

Was craving some ice cream a few days after Christmas and this seemed to be the only spot that was open! No problem. We stopped by and ordered two blizzards and a cone! Service was fine and our ice creams were out shortly after ordering. There was one other couple there ordering at the same time - not too busy. I live dangerously close to Oak Island's one and only Dairy Queen. I love soft serve ice cream, specifically blizzard and blizzard knock offs. I do believe DQ may be the only ice cream place that offers soft serve and blizzards on the island. The majority of the time I am very pleased with the blizzard I get (thick and properly mixed). The very cherry chip blizzard is incredible. A Black Forest blizzard would make my life complete (cherries and brownie pieces!! DQ get on that!) read more

They were very prompt and courteous. The pumpkin blizzard was very good. The only thing is that they are very small, walk up take out only (which isn't a problem), but they only had ice cream and sweets, no sandwiches like hot dogs or hamburgers. Here's a run-down on all aspects of it: Food Quality (+): Their ice cream tastes just as good as your average Dairy Queen! They stay updated on the newest flavors and additions to the DQ empire. Note - They DO NOT serve ANY food other than ice cream. If you're looking for hot dogs, burgers, etc; you're out of luck. Overall, food quality here is definitely something to admire. Environment (+): It's beachside location makes it a nice place to come and hang out with friends, family, or by yourself on hot summer evenings. Once you get your ice cream, you can seat yourself at a bench (Very Limited Seating). This location is OUTDOOR ONLY Service (-): Out of the many times I've been to this DQ, I've never had my or my family's order done incorrectly. The staff excels in their ability to comprehend and create each order they are given. However, they are extremely slow in creating the ice cream. Partially because of their beachside location and partially because of their internal slowness - lines are typically extremely long. Overall, this Dairy Queen is as good as you'll remember most any DQ. The long lines can be excruciating to wait through, especially if it's hot. The wait for your order might even make you want to give up and leave early one day. Dairy Queen always cranks out pretty good ice cream. I ordered an M&M Blizzard and it was very good! Their sizes are fairly big and I think you get a fairly good value for your dollar. This location is located near the beach, which means it gets extremely crowded. My biggest complaint would be the wait, which is way too long just to get a few Blizzards. They are very good, but if you go during certain times of the day, expect to be waiting awhile! Besides Blizzards, DQ has a lot of different options like ice cream cones!
