What a pleasant roadside surprise we experienced at Route 35 Diner…read more On the way to a South Texas Ranch, a group of 7 of us met here to have lunch one Saturday morning. It's very easy to miss while traveling down IH-35 S, because by the time you see the sign "diner", you have passed it by. Although all 7 of us have been right by this place many times over the years, this was a first time experience for the group. In fact, we all failed to realize the diner was even here, as it is also overshadowed by the adjacent service station. The consensus was this was quite the unexpected surprise and each person gave a huge thumbs up for their own meal choice. Personally, I went with the poblano chicken and it was the best I've ever had, which is saying a lot. I believe I ordered this same dish dozens of times in a 60 mile radius and what set it apart was the tasty creamy sauce on top of a very flavorful chicken. The chicken was prepared differently and not the usual stringy stands of breast meat used in other local taquerias. The other dishes from the group were street tacos, shrimp quesadillas, fajitas and even a few with breakfast entrees. We all agreed this place is now on our radar and we are all coming back. A few of the waitstaff did not speak English, which was OK, because a few in our group grew up in Mexico, so the transition was easy. It also gave that authentic feeling that we are in the right place. But please don't let the language gap discourage you because the other helpers spoke English well enough for even the gringos in our group got what they wanted. So owners of this restaurant keep doing what you are doing and if you want to be busting from the seams with business, stick a huge sign in a strategic place and be prepared for more great reviews.

Let me tell you... worth it. Each biscuit was fluffy, buttery, and perfectly warm, like they just came out of the oven to make my morning better. Good size too -- not those tiny hockey pucks some places try to pass off. And the best part? They were about half of what I paid at Bojangles. My wallet smiled. Shoutout to the lady at the counter -- super kind, patient, and genuinely hospitable. Great food + great service = happy customer. If you love biscuits, ask for them. You might unlock the same breakfast treasure I did.

There are a lot of Tables ,chairs , benches to sit and eat at. I love that everything spaced out and not closer together. They do have a little station for silverware and a few trash cans around the area. There's also lots of parking space! It's a great date night area, especially when the weather is nice. Before anyone reads this part just know the food is amazing. We waited a whole hour for our food. (I want to say how long the wait is because you probably shouldn't go when you're in a rush ) They did get fairly busy quickly. We were at the back and I was watching the window where they were serving drinks and I really thought they were going to call us up because the pair of drinks were exactly what we ordered. I assumed maybe the drinks were for someone else since we didn't hear our name or number. 30 minutes later they finally called our number. I really wish they would've given us our drinks ahead of time instead at the end because when they place them by the window, they don't put lids on them. My drink was also missing the strawberries. But I was already frustrated so we left. They also had technical issues so I'm just gonna take it as a rough night thing. I got birria tacos and my finance got pastor tacos. We also tried the horchata. The food was soooo amazing. It was juicy and flavorfull. The horchata is probably the best in town! Next time I might bring a book while I wait but there will deff be a next time. I can't even describe how good they were because I was in Aww the whole time I was eating. This is probably the best food truck on our side of town.

After waiting more than 30 minutes, I discovered that my order was still incomplete. The wait was frustrating, but the way I was treated was far more disappointing. When I addressed my concerns with the owner, Claudia, she laughed at me and made a comment comparing me to other customers who complain, essentially saying that I was "like the other people who complain." I found this extremely dismissive and disrespectful. I was not complaining without reason. I had waited over 30 minutes, my order was incomplete, and I was simply trying to address a legitimate customer-service issue. Instead of receiving an apology or assistance in resolving the problem, I felt mocked and dismissed. I understand that restaurants get busy and mistakes happen, especially late at night. However, professionalism and respect should never be optional. Customers should be able to raise a concern without being laughed at or categorized as "just another person complaining." Unfortunately, the way this situation was handled by both the employees and management left a very negative impression. I hope this feedback encourages better communication, accountability, and respect toward future customers.
