It was busy because we weren't the only dance family with that idea, but the employees were working SO hard to manage the big line with groups of people along with the drive-through. I think there may have only been 2-3 employees and I really appreciated them! They had good attitudes and were getting things made as quickly as they could. Only mistake made was we got a diet soda instead of a regular, but it didn't go to waste. Very crowded, no lines, no signs, very rude, take so long for my order, I can't wait for it due to time issues

A friend and I decided ice cream was in order on a warm Sunday afternoon and Dairy Queen was our final destination. We walked over to find a busy drive-thru but only two folks waiting for ice cream in front of us. Score! We placed our order, two reece's cup blizzards and two small cups for the doggies, and waited... Then, the entire neighborhood of Clintonville decided to show up too! This is typically fine but in the days of social distancing, it made me a little anxious. We had to wait quite a while and actually saw our treats sitting at the counter waiting to be handed to us for a hot second. I slowly made my way up to the counter (literally weaving through other patrons), and was given our cold treats with a smile. Our order was correct, tasty, and given the circumstances, the wait wasn't too bad and the service was friendly. Having extra grace for service workers these days is necessary. I love ice cream and sometimes visit this DQ after dinner out with friends when we want some dessert, but don't want a restaurant dessert, if that makes sense? It's not the fastest place for a cone, probably because there's only one window in the drive through, and the parking lot is TINY, so the drive through line spills over into the street. I've passed this a hundred times, and never stopped in. Yesterday Baby K wanted a milkshake, and this was handy. It's an old-school DQ, no dine-in. The drive-through was backed up onto the street, so not wanting to block traffic we parked in one of the few open spots out back. Walked up, good social distancing by staff and customers. Got our shakes quickly. Friendly and fast service. Reasonable prices. I got my old favorite, a chocolate malt, both for nostalgia reasons and to show Baby K what it tasted like (we had malted milk balls the other day and she was full of questions.) This is a pretty good Dairy Queen. The drive-thru line wasn't too long when we arrived, but man did it get long right after we arrived. Make sure to plan ahead if you are going to do drive-thru on a weekend. Everyone we interacted with was pleasant and friendly. I asked the Oreo dirt pie blizzard, but instead of gummy worms I wanted cookie dough bits. This is my friendly neighborhood DQ, and sometimes, even though Jeni's is definitely my favourite ice cream, one just craves a chocolate/vanilla soft serve cone, what can I say? The boy and I come here fairly regularly for a small treat - and we always sit on the bench and eat our cones and get honked at by friends driving by on Indianola. (Another reason that Clintonville rules). Last time we were here, the owner of O'Reilly's was there with her grandkids and was like, "WTF guys, that's not beer!" HA. DQ in our hood isn't so much a chain (even though it obviously is) as it is a community meeting spot. I pretty much only get soft serve cones here, but yes I have tried the chili cheese dog and yes it is amazing (and worthy of several heart attacks). DQ is so freakin' American. What can you do? It's a little slice of sweet nostalgia, a true John Mellencamp song, the Midwest incarnate. I'm within walking distance of this fine establishment so I've plenty of time to sample the wares. They have awesome soft serve and no matter how much I love Jeni's and Graeter's - there is no substituting soft serve. For the most part, this DQ gets the mix right - I have been there where there is a bit too much air in it, which gives it a distinctly marshmallow consistency. The service is hit or miss, but I'm not asking for much. There has been the occasional time where I will wait at the window for 5 or 10 minutes while the one person working is dealing with the drive through and hasn't noticed me. And I swear they have a 12-year-old girl working there. But this place is exactly whey I am looking for on a hot Summer day or even a cold, boring Winter evening. I'll keep going back. read more

In keeping with my current posts why not post ANOTHER ice cream review. I have hardly eaten ice cream over the past few years but the past few weeks that has changed.....A LOT! and in me eating more ice cream I have been craving more ice cream so I called (texted) my friend (and neighbor) and told her I was kidnapping her and her French Bulldog and we were going to Dairy Queen no questions asked, she didn't seem to mind too much. So we took a nice walk to DQ and stood in line. As Melanie pointed out this isn't so much a chain as a local gathering spot, not that I knew anyone but everyone around was incredibly friendly and my friend and I chatted it up with fellow dog lovers and owners. After the long line dwindled down and we ordered our blizzards and a small cone for the dog (funniest thing ever btw! get your dog ice cream you will not regret watching him/her eat it) we sat on a bench and enjoyed a nice evening. If somehow you don't know how amazing blizzards are I'll explain it as scientifically and mathematically as possible. (Soft server ice cream + topping mixed in) x cup = always good. This is my favorite neighborhood joint. I am a Senior citizen, retired school teacher. All kinds of weather, every week, for the past 2 years I walk my little dog to my DQ. It is always a highlight for both of us until this week. They had made a mistake on my blizzard order, when I got home and excitedly opened my lid I found it was not right and I could not eat it. I was so disappointed but it iwas a cold long walk back so I decided to just let them know next visit being positive they would make it right. This DQ is exactly what I expect it to be. Over my many trips here, I've not had a bad/spoiled item, although I've received a few Blizzards with less-than-desirable amounts of "stuff" in them, but that's a rare occurrence in the longrun. The ice cream is of satisfactory quality, and the staff is always quite friendly. I really enjoy sitting outside after using the walk-up window. If you're using the drive thru, it can be troublesome. There's pretty much no room for more than 4 or 5 cars in line, so if it's busy, good luck. However, there are plenty of parking spots, so if the line is long, you can just park. If you drive, it can be difficult making a left turn out. Overall, this is a place worth visiting because the price is low. It's DQ, not Jeni's. Expectations are everything. read more

Every time I come here I always request honey mustard instead of gravy in my chicken basket. Today I went there and said TWICE while ordering to give me honey mustard. When I get to the window I say another time, "you gave me honey mustard instead of gravy right?" The guy says "yes it should be in the box." This is the second time they have lied to me like it's so much easier to say "sorry I forgot, here you go" instead of wasting my time having to drive back and wasting product. This was the second time they've lied about it and EVERYTIME I come they forget it and I have to either drive back or check my bag. Ridiculous. There is one guy who always works the drive thru who is fantastic (always friendly, always professional, and always gets the order correct). Otherwise, it's the usual fast food lineup of teenagers. Have been to this diary queen many times. Recently went and arrived at the drive thru at 9:53pm they close at 10. After waiting for a minute in front of the order box all the lights shut off and they never took our order. There were a few cars ahead of us and we were there before they closed and felt we should have been served. Very poor customer service, may not go back to this location. read more

Oh, so disappointing. I ordinarily wouldn't take the time to comment on something that I thought was below par. Nonetheless, I just have to say that this DQ serves the absolute worst weiner on a bun that I have ever sampled, and I have made it my business to sample hot dog fare (both chili dogs & coneys, and there is a difference) in more than 300 establishments across the United States. The flavor of this DQ's dogs was so very off putting that I threw them away after just a bite. One of the interesting things about the dogs I purchased there is the fact that the onions were cut into such large pieces. I weighed one of the onion pieces on my home food scale and it weighed nearly 3.8 grams. That's a very large piece of onion, too large. Also, my cola was flat and my fries were not even warm. Of course, I now have the opinion that any more visits to the DQ at Arcadia and Indianola in the Clintonville area of Columbus, Ohio would be a complete waste of time, energy, and money. read more
