Dairy Freeze: A Literal Horror Show This wasn't just a bad dining experience--it was a full-on nightmare. If you value your health, sanity, or basic human decency, stay far away from Dairy Freeze. I can't even believe I'm writing this, but people need to know about the absolute horror show I experienced. First, let's talk about the "decor." Right next to the counter, there was an eerie, mangled taxidermy squirrel head mounted on the wall. Half its face was missing, exposing its skull, which was just dangling there like some kind of cursed relic. I was already disturbed, but things took a turn for the grotesque when a piece of the squirrel's skull literally fell off the mount and INTO MY BURGER. I am not making this up. I was so horrified I couldn't even speak at first. But the horror didn't stop there. When I finally worked up the courage to inspect my plate further, I found what looked like rat body parts mixed in with my food. A tiny severed tail was sticking out of the fries, and what I can only describe as a tiny rat paw was sitting on the edge of my plate. At that point, I was too nauseous to even think about eating. And while all of this was happening, the kitchen was in complete chaos. I heard shouting and looked over to see flames shooting out of the back. Apparently, one of the chefs had caught on fire. Yes, you read that right--the chef was literally on fire. The staff didn't seem remotely prepared to handle it, either. They were running around like chickens with their heads cut off, screaming, while the fire continued to grow. This place is a complete and utter disaster. Sadly Dairy Freeze is no longer amazing. I'm not sure if the beef prices has caused a change to your burgers or what but theyve definitely changed. They have gone from our favorite to our least favorite after today. Burger patty was much smaller & drier than before. It tasted like a run of the mill frozen burger from any chain fast food restaurant. Really hope whoever makes these decisions for your place really considers a price increase vs a quality decrease. Wont be back for quite some time after today's experience. read more

Well for me this place brings back a lot of memories from home. It's a cool little hamburger joint on the main road in Altavista that you order your food and sit outside and eat. They have everything from hamburgers hotdogs chili dogs fries onion rings ect and some pretty amazing milkshakes. The hamburgers remind me of the ones I used to get at the little hamburger stands where the patties are thin and the buns or toasted. I had a cheeseburger which was great and a chocolate banana milkshake that was perfect. The customer service was great and fast didn't have to wait very long to get our food. And I have to say I was pretty impressed because they were pretty packed that day. I'll go by say hi and have a cheeseburger and a milkshake you won't be disappointed read more

This place is way better than Dairy Queen. I was able to buy a cherry sundae and a couple hot dogs and The Grandscrew got an up-side-down banana split and tipped it back. I have had their burgers and other desserts as well. It's a winner. The only negative is that it's in Altavista. read more

I've been going here since I was a kid and I still love their food! This has such a great environment with friendly staff. I wish there were more options for ice cream flavors and toppings though. Other than that, I highly recommend this place, especially if you're visiting Altavista! read more

I love dairy freeze and have been eating here all my life becouse of the consistent quality of food until today....there has been a recent change to the hamburgers. Before they were juicy and delicious the one i just had was dry , smaller and just tasted off. Something was changed im guessing the burger may have been a fozen patty and the bun tasted diffferent as well. I dont know if the changes are due to COVID or what but please if you have to charge more due to meat shortages id rather have the quality im used to and pay more instead of subpar food read more

I wouldn't even give a half a star. Not because they were rude;cause they were. Because the place was nasty. I admit the corn dog was amazingly good. The hamburger I got was nothing great; McDonalds has better. I was a little worried about how my food would come out,the middle age man in the back cooking has this horrified look on his face like he had no damn idea what he was doing. They have the best BLT in town, it is loaded with bacon. Their onion rings, French fries, chicken sandwich, fish sandwich and corn dogs are also very good. I would not recommend the burger, it is small and does not taste like it is good quality beef. I also do not care for their milkshakes since they are made with soft serve ice cream. Their Colliders are a much better choice than the shakes. read more

Burgers are good. Very good. Shakes were disappointing. Not enough flavor. Basically a vanilla shake with a hint of chocolate, banana, etc. What ticked me off about this place is that even though I was willing to pay extra, they wouldn't put cheese and bacon on their fries. Ended up cancelling my order to go to Hardee's because of this. Sorry, but that's a stupid reason to lose a customer!! To be THAT unacommodating!! read more

My fiance picked us up some banana splits on the way home from picking up a pizza this evening, and I am so grateful :) they were wonderful. Totally hit the spot, delicious. We stopped by here on a hot Saturday afternoon. They were busy, but service was quick. I tried the peach frozen yogurt and my husband had the vanilla frozen yogurt. They were both so delicious, I think in the future we'll stick with the different flavors of frozen yogurt over the ice cream. read more
