Dan is the Man! What…read morea pro, and what tremendous customer service. I had no idea what to expect when I decided to sell my lot of 65 ungraded T206 cards. I'd rediscovered them in a forgotten binder, hiding in a closet for some 35 years. My son and I had collected them cheaply in the late 80s, purely as a hobby, not an investment. I had no idea where to go for an honest appraisal. Fortunately, I found Just Collect with a quick google search. Their submission form was simple. I loaded cell-phone pics of my cards, front and back, in four groups based on my amateur's description of their condition. As advertised, Dan emailed me back asap with an up-front assessment. To give me idea of their process, he gave me a firm offer for each of my 8 (lesser) HOF players. His detail evaluation included their condition, their retail worth, and his offer (based on Just Collect's percentage scale). The offer, of course, was contingent on assessing the cards in hand -- including all of the commons, which he definitely was interested in. Dan's email encouraged me to call with questions. And I did, several times (!) . Each time, Dan picked up immediately, explaining the shipping process etc. Full disclosure: We didn't complete the deal, through no fault of Dan's. I actually ordered the shipping materials. But in the short time waiting for them to arrive, I was referred to a local dealer (someone I'd never heard of). He made a strong offer for all of my T206s, plus random other vintage cards. So I took the easy (lazy and impatient) way --- and sold locally rather than ship and wait. When I emailed Dan to explain my decision, he responded promptly and graciously. Class all the way. As it turns out, I've unearthed a couple of old World Series tix from another closet. I emailed photos to Dan to see if Just Collect handles ticket stubs. Sure enough, I got a detailed offer back asap. As I said before, Dan's the man!

A great piece was published on Gothamist.com today, a digital publication that I read daily as if…read moreit were the New York Bible. The piece, titled "NYC Hotels Brace For Slow Recovery Despite Rebound In Foreign Tourism" gives uncanny insight into the hospitality industries' battle in which NYC hotels are quietly struggling to fill their rooms with warm bodies. It's a wonder how NY hotels, or ANY cities' hotels, can afford to treat their guests poorly - effectively destroying opportunity costs for the future business of those guests for whom the experience is extreme disappointment. Please read the Gotham article (link pasted below), and I have also included two really insightful quotes as well: https://gothamist.com/news/nyc-hotels-brace-slow-recovery-despite-rebound-foreign-tourism "While hotels continue to reopen and return to business, more than 100 in the city will remain closed for good. New hotel construction has offset these losses, but a deficit of thousands of rooms won't be available to travelers, resulting in booking shortages as demand increases." "Without business travel and tourism from China, the Hotel Association of New York City doesn't expect a recovery until 2025. But Joe Gaeta at the Hyatt said any increase in business is a good sign." I am not sure how some hotel properties can afford to willfully lose business AND potential future earnings! But believe it or not...

It's not organized in an obviously clean way. But +1 to the worker who was there when I came in. Really helpful and knew where everything was. Tons of vintage comics, and some modern back issues (but not a whole lot). When I came in on a Saturday, this week's new releases were nearly gone already so I suspect they don't order a whole lot each week. But that wasn't why I visited the shop anyway. I thought the older issues were priced pretty fairly and they also tend to bundle whole series together, in case you're interested in buying the entire set / don't want to hunt down all the issues separately. Not so much in terms of collectibles. Random modern comic book movie memorabilia and old carded GI Joe figures. Some Funko Pop figures, but that's pretty much it. Overall it's a pretty good shop, but again, they get brownie points for knowledgeable staff!

It's time to continue the store of Haytham Kenway read from journals  by his son Ratonhnhaké:ton (Noah Watts), also known as Connor, an 18th-century assassin novel.  Most call readers or people playing the game will refer to him as Conor,  because his Native American name will get butchered. The first Assassin's Creed novel came out on November 11th 2009 and I started reading these books as they came out....well to be honest,  I hadn't known about the books until 2010.  Nevertheless,  I read the books on the subway to my former place of work in Washington D.C.  Looking at the book and seeing this book by Oliver Bowden and Penguin Books  compelled me to write this review.  These book take my mind to places my mind can only imagine.   It also help create ideas for my own novels. Reading these books and others helps give me insights on the writing styles and how to write my own style of novels. In truth, Yelp has been the most beneficial to me and my style of writing. Two books I am interested in reading even if they are out of order are Assassin Creed Unity and Assassin's Creed Odyssey.   After I finish this book, I will move on to other books in the Assassin's Creed novels.   Years ago I remember hearing "Penguin Audio" or Penguin Random House Audio presents...."  it is something that has stayed with me. One day I look forward to seeing my works  of art with this company.  Until then, we will have to wait and see.
