I first loved Cabinet when someone fowarded me an article on female mathemtician who was able to visualize the hyperbolic plane through crocheting. I was flabbergasted. I immediately bought a copy and silently apologized to my friend who recomended Cabinet to me. Cabinet's great strength is the quality of essays in a dazzling variety of topics. It's very difficult to read at first, but it's a great gateway drug to other topics that are unique and quirky. They probably hate the word quirky. It's a difficult read, but it is very rewarding.

Lovely, funky place that attracts a diverse and intelligent crowd. I have read the magazine, and it is beautifully produced. If you still read print publications, Cabinet combines the best of high-brow but accessible scholarship with the visual arts component for which it is probably best known (should I say fine arts? or just arts?). Right by the canal, too, for those who like scenery on their long walks from the subway.

The newspaper has won 69 Pulitzer Prizes, the second-most of any publication (after The New York Times). When I read it online I find the articles to be well written. The accompanying photos are always great. There's some historic front pages over the years. I'm sure you either love The Washington Post or hate it. I like what I've read during my life. The Washington Post launched its website (WashingtonPost.com) in June 1996. I stay away from discussing the politics of the newspaper business. I do feel they give a fair accounting of the news of the day. I'm not expert. I read the sections that interest me. I'm into pop culture, entertainment and sports. I'm giving them Four Stars based on my experience reading this rag.

This bookstore has a great selection of new books, some of which are signed by the author (but you might need to look a bit hard to find them - it's not easily displayed as it could have been). Part of the reason of it being 4 out of 5 stars. Another reason why it's 4 out of 5 stars is because this location doesn't have a cafe like the other locations - which I appreciate since it makes McNally a true third space for New Yorkers to enjoy. Instead, this location feels more like a take-out/convenience store type of bookstore even though there is one or two chairs placed upstairs that are optimally placed.
