Arrived in town and my coworkers wanted Italian. Found this restaurant on Yelp within walking…read moredistance of our hotel and gave it a shot. Busy on a Sunday night which is a good sign. Cozy dining room and outside seating, but too cold to sit outside on this night. Server was good. Menus in German and English. Complimentary bread and oil. Standard bread service but three different types of bread was nice. Burrata and calamari appetizers were good. Burrata was the better of the two. The calamari was nothing special. Tomato soup was excellent. All of the pasta dishes were fresh, hot, and delicious. My truffle pasta was very good. Creamy, hot, and the fresh truffles were excellent. Coworkers loved their spaghetti bolognese and carbonara. And of course, the beer was refreshing :-)

My final Italian meal in Germany was this very popular joint I stumbled upon on Yelp! Located in a…read moresection of Berlin populated with rows of restaurants, this place is happening right now for locals. We went without a reservation and that was a big mistake. Luckily they found one small table for the three of us, but otherwise, the inside and outside dining was overflowing. They also speak little to no English so hopefully you speak German. I think we only go the table because the maitre'd figured giving us a table was easier than trying to figure out what I was saying. Haha! While not as amazing as the two other places I reviewed in Berlin that were also Italian, it was pretty good. We ordered the margherita pizza to start and it tasted good. Sadly it asked for it crispy or well done and they couldn't understand so it was not undercooked but pale as heck. The carbonara was okay but had cream - a big no, no - and was too heavy to finish. The chicken verde (a green peppercorn sauce) was very good and I would highly recommend it. The spaghetti bolognese was pretty good but not as good as other places we tried in Berlin. Still, I would recommend trying this place. Just make sure you have a reservation!

Luardi - Pizza Margherita - good but they need to let it cook longer. Was very chewy and undercooked. And we asked for it crispy.

No idea if he owned the place at one time or if this is just a love letter. ??? Service was fine, but not extremely attentive. Thankfully the place is small and we could flag them down if we needed something. Wines by the glass are limited but the one red was good. Honestly, however, feel like at least three or four options should be available. Food was a bit mixed. They do a nice table-side presentation for tartare and chateaubriand. We had a special foie gras ravoli that was loaded with black truffle, but was way too al dente and ultimately a disappointment. French Onion Soup was stellar. Tartare was good and accompanied by crispy onions. Steak was good, but chef really over-zealous with the salt. Portions were generous. Overall, it's good, but in our opinion, too pricey for return. Glad we tried it, but would look elsewhere in a future visit to Berlin.

Note that there is nothing very fancy here as they don't do haute cuisine just good French country fare. Atmosphere is a little staid, but not unpleasant. There is a good and not too overpriced wine list which includes some pretty decent claret. Service is calm, polite and quite good. You should head here with business partners or friends to sample probably one of the better French country restaurants in Berlin.

As an visitor from the U.S., I was craving authentic German cuisine on our first night in Berlin…read more Since our hotel was in the shopping district of Berlin, we had less than a 15-minute walk to get to Berlinchen. Upon arrival, we were asked where we wanted to sit, though we were advised that sitting outside was cooler than sitting inside. So we did just that. As they receive many tourists, they had the ingredients in English under each dish. Our server was friendly and showed us all the photos of the dishes on his iPad, which was helpful as we were not familiar with many of the dishes. He also let us know what items were not included on the menu and showed us the photos. We all ordered still water (in bottles), the Berliner Weisse, and beers. For myself, I ordered the Beef Gulasch with egg noodles (Rinder-Gulasch mit Pilzen & Spatzle). My husband ordered the giant currywurst with french fries (Berliner Currywurst XL mit Pommes frites). My parents ordered a salad and one of the non-menu special dishes that had pork loin, gulasch, bean sprouts, and mashed potatoes. The Rinder-Gulasch mit Pilzen & Spatzle had an enormous portion of egg noodles compared to the amount of the beef gulasch. However, since the gulasch was on the saltier side, eating the gulasch along with heaping amounts of the egg noodles helped balance out the taste. The beef was also tender and paired well with the texture of the egg noodle. The Berliner Currywurst XL mit Pommes frites was... interesting. I was expecting the currywurst to have a meaty texture, but when I bit into it, I found the texture spongey like tofu. If I was told the currywurst was vegan, I would have believed it. I think they should have included more of the sauce (ketchup) that came with it, but again, this is Germany, and you have to request and pay for anything extra here. My husband, who typically eats heavy, could not finish this plate as we were all sampling each other's food and he really liked my Rinder-Gulasch. When we come back to Berlin, we would love to try the other items on their menu. I highly recommend this place!
