Elder Abuse. My Mother started the Daily Breeze subscription in the 1970's. Just a single copy delivered to her home for many years. As she got older, she didn't notice that they were hiking the rate higher and higher until I took over as her Power of Attorney, looked at her checking account and they were charging her $406 PER MONTH ($13.50 per day delivery!). She has had YEARS of overpaying. New customers pay $.71-$1.43 per day, depending on their subscription plan. Any lawyers out there want to take on this Elder Abuse? I would recommend that not subscribing. it took almost half an hour to tell customer service I wanted to cancel my subscription and to send me a final bill. I was tired of getting bills endlessly and not knowing when I was paid up to. the final straw was the billing calls, so I told them cancel my subscription and send me a final bill because they kept insisting that i make a payment. What they failed to tell me was they couldn't cancel my subscription. I got another call from their billing center and told them I canceled 2 weeks prior when they called, again they insisted I pay what was still owing and they told me they couldn't cancel and that I needed to call customer service which I did. They wouldn't take no to canceling. They rep said she couldn't adjust my bill reflecting I should only be billed for 18 days ?? They are a headache to deal with. read more

I signed up a few years ago but hardly used it. When i signed up it was $9.99 a month for digital. Then i looked at my billing one day and found out they switched from $9.99 to $34.99 a month and i was like what's going on. Well i never had a chance to call them or dispute it so i decided i'm just to cancel them. So as i read everyone's review on their customer service issues i was shocked. So the best thing to do is don't call them just have the bank stop payment on future payments. As for me i just changed my credit card # and got it replaced and they never got another penny. Not commenting on the content, but not happy with customer service interactions related to billing. Increasing subscription cost without informing, not making the requested changes to my account, and then after they overcharge me, instead of doing the obvious and right thing and refunding the difference, they say they will instead "extend my subscription"! You really have to stay on top of this billing department, watch out. read more

They charged my elder senior mom $1,880 per year for her physical newspaper subscription because she is a longtime loyal customer! Which means they have increased her price every year without stopping. When I tried to call, they wouldn't give a standard price and kept saying that it varies per customer. The website says $130 per year, but you have to cancel and start over online and give your credit card. Seniors don't want to do that. They are ripping off old people, and there is no one to talk to in the United States. They should be investigated and fined, and a class action lawsuit should be filed by all the seniors who were ripped off. This is elder fraud! read more

The Daily Breeze has now started calling me non-stop asking me to resubscribe, but not leaving messages when I send them to voicemail. That's pretty rich for a company that also treats their customers so horribly and threatened to send me to collections because they lied to me about a subscription price change. read more

My grandfather passed away and apparently the daily breeze only offers a continuous subscription which automatically renews for over $400. After calling their office to let them know that he passed and would not be paying for the subscription they let me know that they would still be pursuing the charges. Mind you - the subscription renewed in December, almost a month after he passed, and since we were completely unaware that a continuous newspaper subscription even existed we apparently missed the 90 day window to cancel by 10 days and they are insisting that we pay the bill. I have not received my paper in over a week. I have called 3 times telling them that I am not receiving my paper. They told me I would receive all papers the following day. Guess what, still no paper. I then told them i wanted to cancel my acct and to return my $29 that i have on my acct, but was informed that the daily breeze does not return customers money if they cancel the account. If there's half of one star . That's what Daily Breeze deserves . We have put up with many news paper not being delivered for weeks and numerous phone calls to Daily Breeze because of the inconsistency. And when log into your account their program is obsolete, there's No history of credits ( for the non delivered newspapers ), no history of your payments . I've been subscriber for 20 plus year and when you negotiate for new subscription , it always reverted back to prior subscription price . I just got a call to renewal a subscription for the next six month , spoke with two representatives they quoted two different prices and on line my account shows 3rd subscription price for amount due . Never put your account on " Auto Pay " . The subscriptions keeps going up. Just like your internet/tv service. And you do not get a choice of digital or hard copy , you are paying for both. Example, last night a person committed suicide at Del Ami so I figured I'd go on website to find out any details and of course nothing. The loooooong goodbye I've been a subscriber for years [and years.] I go way back. The San Pedro News Pilot was the best coverage of local news. Then, came the Breeze. The delivery problems are outrageous. For two years it's been late delivery, or in the street delivery and/or no delivery ... dozens ++++ calls have resulted in no substantive change. Maybe, for a day or two, the issues resolved ... then ... back to "the way we were" I've spoken with the District Sales or District Distribution Manager several times ... the explanation I got was that with fewer subscribers it's harder to find reliable carriers ... ok ... I guess Daily Breeze wants to get rid of us old people that want a news paper delivered in the morning. Paper has not been delivered on any regular fashion since mid June 2022. A sporadic paper ones a week at best but nothing for the last two weeks. Too bad since I have enjoyed the news paper since 1996 with a yearly subscription going ever since. I'm fed up with late deliveries I now receive the paper at 8am or later. I've reported late deliveries 20 times in the last 60 days. I spoke to customer service 7 times. They all said they would file reports. They also roll me that they don't know what happens from there on. I ask to speak to their supervisor and 4 different agents tell me that they are the head supervisor. Three of them told me that my paper would be delivered at 6am from now. I asked for the phone number of the person in charge of the carriers and I was told they don't have a phone. I finally told them I wanted to cancel my subscription after 30 years and I was told I couldn't cancel until my subscription runs out. The Daily Breeze is going downhill. We had this paper for a very long time (6 years) and we set it up so they would be paid by Credit card. When the credit renewed they didn't contact us that the old card would not work. They finally contacted us 90 days later and my husband was home and I was working and I had the credit card with me. He asked them for a phone number I could call them back and was told they didn't have one. That was late Saturday afternoon. When I contacted them on Monday morning they were rude and very hard to understand and unable to explain why the bill was that amount. They were unable to forward the call to a manager and frustrated me to the point of cancellation. I really liked reading the paper in the morning but I didn't appreciate being treated like that. This paper sucks, their website is hard to navigate, and this morning, my bank account had a charge for $169 for a 6 month subsription to the digital version/ad free, that it says I agreed to at some point. When I saw that, I just blew up and went online to their website which is totally un-navigable. It tells me to just click on "Cancel My Subscription" which I could not find anywhere. So I called my bank which in turn told me the charge had already gone through and I needed them to cancel that charge which the Daily Breeze says it won't do because I supposedly agreed to this. I appreciate the local news that the Daily Breeze offers, however there are free apps available online that I take advantage of. When I called to cancel the Daily Breeze subscription, I was harassed by the person that took my call to 1) try it a little longer 2) try it online 3) try it for less.... I had to say over and over again that I just want to cancel and not receive any more charges. She was insistent and relentless. Finally she said, okay I'll cancel your account. Then said there would be a one time payment of $23 for back pay. I have been paying $12.59 a month for over 2 years. NOW there is a back payment? She wanted my bank account information. I would give them a big fat zero. I have been on the phone with the people that work for the db, call center in Arizona. They are pleasant, but read a script like robots and they cant even get their script on the same page, ive been calling every other day following up with my request, spoke to 5 different people, they talk but say nothing. I have been getting home delivery since 1985, ive never complained, til now, its disgraceful and demeaning the way they treated me, like im stupid. I noticed i hadnt received my paper for the past 2 weeks, usually smack dab in the middle of my driveway, same lady for about 7 years, rain or shine. I worried something happened to my carrier, so i called db, they said, oh didnt you get the notice, we use a different service, NO. So i said, im cancelling my subscription, oct 8th, 2022, since they havent delivered a paper in 2 weeks, i asked for confirmation # for my cancellation, guy said we dont do that, just take my word. Then the next day is was getting ready to pay my monthly visa, and guess what? They billed my visa $355.17 for Oct 11th thru December. Unbelievable! I called 1st thing in the morning, and of course spoke to a different person, i said i cancelled my subscription, why did you bill me $355.17, please refund the money. Plus i hadnt received a paper since sept. I was floored when they said auto-pay Is not refundable. That blew my mind. Stealing money from long time senior customers. I cancelled before the next payment due, i double checked my db statement and my bank visa card. Then when i called back 1 day later, and spoke to another person, i said all my comments from my calls are on record on your end. Whats the status on my request for a refund, i repeated everything i told previous personnel. This person said, i see you are a premier member, i said what does that mean, he said, it means you get a magazine in your newspaper from time to time, and it cost $5.00 extra and moves up your payment due by 2-3 days, thats why i dont get a refund. Thats the stupidest unauthorized statement i heard. Then another db call center person told me, if db had an office and i went there they wouldnt talk to me, what nerve! I used to live by the old db office on torrance blvd, and walk in and place ads or make payments, they were once earthings and friendly. I asked to be transfered to the torrance office, nope cant do that. What happened to all the local employees that worked at our local db??? Did an alien space ship beam them up? They refused to let me speak to billing dept, mgr who can humanely solve my problem. They take my $355.17 and they justify thats ok with them. I didnt ask them to reimburse me for non delivery for 2 weeks in sept. I just wanted a refund. My parents have had the paper delivered since 1987 but for the past 8 months they have had nothing but problems receiving the paper before 12pm. Can I give no stars? These people are completely incompetent. My mother cancelled her subscription in March 2018 because the price for a year was something like $585. It might be worth it if there was anything worth reading in it, but we don't consider sports, movies or casino schedules newsworthy. We have had continuous service from March 2018. I guess we know where everyone's missing issues went. I have called 5 times in less than 30 days trying to get delivery stopped. Each time I'm assured that it will absolutely be stopped immediately. This paper has been awful to subscribe to. Between not receiving the paper, having to phone in repeatedly to receive the paper, etc. Not to mention the price hikes. Not to mention the terrible customer service. You will be on hold for 15 minutes, then transferred, put on hold another 15 minutes, then maybe you'll be lucky to talk to a punk that won't listen or will argue with you about cancelling. This company took our money but didn't deliver a single piece of news to our home! Talked to a supervisor and manager but nothing was done about them not delivering to us. We allegedly got an extra "credit" for the inconvenience however no papers have been delivered. After canceling the service, they have the audacity to charge us and send us a past due notice! I seriously think that they are charging people, maybe even elderly folk money and not providing the service they promised. Very bad delivery service, so bad that I have their number on SPEED DIAL on my phone. I love the recording "we have noted your mis-delivery and keep these on file", well that doesn't do any good. I'm on the week-end service and when I called to cancel, they switched me over to the hard sell person. They said that because I was only a w.e. subscriber, if I was to change to weekly that would help the delivery person remember my address. I signed up for 8 weeks at $20 via a boy who came to the door and said he was doing for community service. He did not know when the papers would start. Flash forward two and a half months and I have never received newspaper BUT I get an additional bill for papers delivered. I call and I ask my options for resolving. He say "I don't know, I can't read your mind". I ask to be transferred to manager, who says there is nothing she can do except check with the delivery manager about why I didn't get my paper AND then finance may remove the additional charges. Horrible delivery service to start with. Their customer service is terrible. They give excuses as to why we didn't get our paper over and over again. One rep told me that I can't expect to get my paper delivered because they do not have enough delivery people. I asked him why they continue to charge us for a delivered paper if they can't provide that service? He had no answer. I signed up for it, but unknown to me and not stated to me, that rate was only for new subscribers. The salesman never mentioned the problem. I had paid the $8.00.
