the food here is not your typical japanese ramen. it's some frankenstein baby born from pho and asian instant noodles, had genetic mutation because of tons of MSG, lived in the sewer for 16 years (that's what the oily soup reminds me of). Meat is extremely old and dry, careful not to get 1 million strings stuck between your teeth! this place needs to stop having false advertisement to trap innocent people in! or even better, kill it. kill it with FIRE. read more

Tonkatsu Ramen broth tastes like powder based, not "12hrs of pork bones made" as claimed on the adds. Mochico chicken is surprisingly better than expected, not very salty or over flavored. Croquette has no meat in the stuffing, tastes just like hash browns, not sure if it's supposed be like that. The waitress was very bossy to the waiter, not so friendly to customers neither. Most of restaurants in Hilo close at 9pm, but they stay open till 9:30. Not a bad choice at that time, beats fast food. read more

I would definitely recommend this restaurant. It had the best ramen on the island. I even tried a new thing for me- spam sushi, What have I been missing and when how can I get this in San Diego. They have a combo meal of ramen and a side and I had pot stickers which were cooked well and tasted even better. This was my first visit to Daichi. I had the Spicy Beef Ramen. It was a nice dish. The broth had a great flavor. It came out very hot so make sure to let the ramen cool a little before you dive in. I also had some gyoza and they were delicious. The service was good and the wait was not too bad. A lot of the other plates I saw come out looked good as well. After a long day of adventuring the big island, my friends and I were dying for warm food. We were particularly craving ramen and the ramen here was alright enough to fulfill that craving. After being in Hawaii for a few days, I expected more aloha and ohana here but it was the complete opposite. The waitress/cashier was very emotionless and robot-like and not at all attentive towards providing a good experience. There was another waitress, however, that was much more friendlier and she was the one that brought us our food. I would not come here again for dine-in...perhaps again for takeout only. read more

Came in with a party of 8. I didn't expect much of this place of being a tiny hole in the wall but when I stepped into the restaurant the deco caught my attention. The restaurant was very clean and everything was up to date. For appetizers we ordered the calamari, mochiko chicken, gyoza,deep fried croquettes, taco yaki and the shrimp & fish katsu. Everything was delicious. For my main entree I ordered their "special combo" and chose there shoyu ramen with the mini curry. The portions were way more than I expected and there curry is one of the best I tasted so far. . The food was great and the service was excellent; Even though they were super busy the waitress came numerous times to check on our table. We were all so very hungry that no one took any pictures but I will be posting some on my next visit since I already made reservations for my granddaughter's birthday dinner. A small little restaurant located in the Prince Kuhio Plaza. We didn't have very high expectations but we were in the mood for some good ramen and curry as it's been rainy and cold. We got seated immediately and got our order taken rather quickly. The service was very good, nothing to complain about!! The food is where it lost my stars. We ordered the deep fried gyoza curry and the ton katsu ramen. Listen to this: my curry had 6 pieces of gyoza (nice), but had ONE small carrot and 2 small potatoes. The curry was super watery and hardly even warm. They put it on a huge bed of rice to make it look bigger than what you're really getting. The ramen was average but definitely not in the top 10 ramen places we've had. The ramen required some seasoning and oils in order to taste better. Overall this place really disappointed me with the food but the service was top notch! I don't think the curry was worth $12.50 or that our food in general was worth $27. It was okay, but I'd probably suggest another ramen place. read more

Came here for lunch and it wasn't very crowded. The service was prompt and I ordered the combo with chicken katsu, curry and rice, black garlic ramen. The ramen was decent but it was just the noodles and a piece of pork. There were no other fixings with the ramen. The chicken katsu was light and fluffy and the dipping sauce was standard. Lastly, the curry and rice was blah. Felt like it was literally a golden curry pack warmed up and dumped over rice. Overall, this place was decent and the prices are reasonable. read more

It's just ok. Let's start with this is the first ramen place I've been to that doesn't automatically give you A little pupu of Kim chee. You can order it in the side for $4.75. No thank you. Little bit of a language barrier. We asked if they had a mini plate of gyoza curry rice-they said yes. We tried to order the mini then they said "no mini." We ordered a gyoza curry plate & a miso ramen with 4piece gyoza on the side. The curry plate came out about 10 minutes before the ramen which was kinda irritating. It was a little unnerving to see that all the condiments were NOT packaged separately as COVID guidelines suggest, and I didn't see them clean any tables condiments after they left. It showed me they weren't concerned with cleanliness. As for the taste of the food? It was ok. I had to put a LOT of chili sauce in my food to give it some additional flavor. The curry was really thin-I prefer thick curry so it wasn't that great. The taste of the gyoza was actually pretty good, except it wasn't closed completely so when you'd try to pick it up the filling would all fall out. read more

Compared to ramen places on Oahu and the mainland, this place is OKAY. For Hilo, this place is decent!! Good portion and excellent prices. I enjoyed my shrimp ramen and enjoyed the crispy garlic, hot oil, soy sauce, among another sauces they provided on the side of the table. This restaurant has a nice layout and the staff are friendly. Would definitely recommend this joint for a ramen filling or quick easy lunch. Wouldn't eat here for a formal dinner. read more

We ordered our food and was served almost immediately. My lunch partner and I each ordered a lunch combo. I got curry rice and a spicy ramen. He got the gyoza and tonkotsu ramen. They arrived and were served at the appropriate temperature. The portions were decent and the price was fine. The food was food. I can't say much more than that. The rating here was good (five stars) so I thought it was worthwhile to check it out. Sat on the counter facing a wall. Service was fast. Ordered a set of mini curry rice, mini miso ramen and four pieces of gyoza. A minutes after the order they delivered curry rice. Only a couple pieces of carrots and potatoes and no meat. Another couple of minutes and they delivered miso ramen. The noodle was over-cooked and broth/ soup was mediocre at its best. Gyoza came five minutes after that. One of waitresses brought a tub of utensiles out of washing machine and started drying right next to the dinning customer. Rather disappointed for this restaurant. First time ever here and it was delicious I ordered the chicken katsu curry mild not too spicy or overwhelming, nice ratio of katsu and rice. We sat down promptly soon after waking in, and because we were there between 2:30-4 we received free Gyoza!! (It was happy hour) so that was a pleasant surprise. Overall wait staff was very attentive and food was served rather quick, nice ambience. Chairs are a little bulky and tables are a little close together but other than that it was a great experience. The food is great. Everything we ordered was ono. The 3 stars is for the older female lady who called us in and seated us. She wasn't that friendly. She then proceeded to seat another family after us. Left us in awe because she took their order before us as we were waiting. We waited a little more before a male came to take our order. He had personality and very good customer service. We always thanked both the female and male when they would come over to help us. Male guy always appreciative or acknowledge but the lady there was no reply. We even thanked her as we left but no reply or acknowledgement. Good customer service can go a long ways. read more

One star for "ok" food and quick turn around. The food can be great but customer service and my experience outweighs it all; the service SUCKS BIG TIME! The employees need to step up their customer service in the restaurant AND on the phone. They're VERY RUDE and have no value in treating customers with any kind of standard. Was taking a day trip to Hilo, saw it off the side of the road and decided to try it. I had the beef curry with a side of gyoza. The gyoza definitely tasted freshly made, unlike a lot of places that use frozen ones. The beef curry was good but lacked a bit of spice and could've had a little more beef as well. Whenever I'm back Hilo, I may give it another try, to try the ramen. read more
