Aroostook Hospitality Inn - Van Buren

Being a traveling salesperson, I've stayed in a lot of hotels, but this place is by far the…read moreabsolute WORST! Be aware that there is no on-site manager here and good luck trying to reach anyone on the phone if you have an issue. The owners, who live downstate somewhere, believe that managing 5 or 6 of their northern Maine hotels from afar is a great idea ... It's NOT! Their solution to not having an on-site manager is to have the cleaning person lodge the key-card into the (outside) doorframe, so when you arrive, you just let yourself in w/out any contact w/management whatsoever. Imagine showing up without knowing if anyone who doesn't belong has been in and out of your room, and is possibly STILL IN THERE WHEN YOU ARRIVE! This is so unsafe and a real problem waiting to happen. No on-site management means no enforcement of quiet hours, non-smoking areas, and no immediate help if it's needed. There is no active police force in this town, so you're essentially on your own if something very bad happens. The last time I stayed at Aroostook Hospitality Inn, the upstairs guests had a 3-room party. They just left all three doors open, cranked up the music and ran back and forth with each other between the three rooms. Unfortunately, my room was located underneath one of those rooms. There were also a lot of vehicles and foot traffic in and out of the parking lot all night. No manager available to eliminate this problem. FYI to the owner of this place ... the cleaner isn't cleaning! I have arrived here to find bars of soap in the shower, full trashcans, hair in the shower, moldy shower curtain, hair and toothpaste in the sink and on the bathroom counter, empty toilet paper rolls, no coffee pot as requested during reservation. It's impossible to find the housekeeper, so a trip to the Dollar Store was necessary. The single bathroom outlet wasn't working the last time I was there. That's just the inside ... the outside of this place generally unkept. The lot is littered with cigarette butts and bits of trash/paper - and there was a syringe on the ground next to my car in the morning! It's a real bummer this is the only place in Van Buren, Maine to lay your head. If anyone decides to make a new hotel or motel in town - they'll get very rich! Maybe part of the solution for this place is for the owners to spend more than one night here to get a real idea of what their guests experience.

Nothing fancy - clean, comfortable, and inexpensive. The sleeping area had plenty of room. A wide…read moreselection of programming on the TV and a strong reliable WiFi. A ceiling fan provided more than adequate ventilation and the air conditioner did kick in on hot days. They are serving a rudimentary continental breakfast again that was perfectly adequate to start the day. In room microwave and minifridge. The staff (Kaitlyn) was efficient, friendly, and spoke perfect English. Unlike most big hotels, they do clean the rooms everyday here. The decor is dated, but functionally adequate. We would stay here again.

Kate and Kevin are wonderful hosts! My sister and I arrived in Presque Isle on a Saturday evening…read moreand they were happy to accommodate us without a reservation. Kevin helped with our heavy suitcase and Kate was very welcoming. The beds are comfortable and the shower is hot. Breakfast was delicious both days and Kate makes the best muffins I've ever had. Where do I begin?! Amazing place. 5 stars is simply not enough. Stay here; it will be the nicest…read moreplace you ever stayed. (That's my short version.) While I was in Maine, I wanted to travel to the northern portion along the Canadian border. Hotels are few and far between where I was looking to go, so I found this Inn on TA (all excellent reviews). The price was AMAZING (only $85.23 for Oct. 11, 2013), so I made my reservation. When I arrived, I was in love. It is a beautiful, 100-year-old home that is filled with so much charm and warmth. It had these gorgeous hardwood floors and was decorated with cool antiques like old phonographs and, of course, old irons. You look around at all these beautiful things as if you were in a museum. The house is very welcoming - like your own home would be, only better! The Innkeepers, Kate and Kevin, are exactly what you would expect of people who live in Maine; they were nice, and friendly, and beautiful, and were very interesting to talk to. When I was led upstairs to my room, I could not believe my eyes (right away, I realized I had made a mistake in only staying for one night). I wanted to live there forever. My room had a big, queen bed, and there was a twin bed on the other side of the room. There was a private bathroom (all the rooms have private bathrooms for spoiled Americans such as myself). The bathroom was very spacious with wonderful, fluffy towels and a nice shower (no tub, just shower). The room was beautifully decorated with more antiques. I loved everything from the furniture, to the glass doorknobs to the windows! When I crawled into that bed at night, I could have sworn that those delicious sheets had been ironed; I have never experienced such comfortable bedding! My room and bathroom were immaculately clean, as was the rest of the Inn. On the second floor (where all the rooms were) there was a little sitting area with a frig and books and other things you might find yourself needing. It's a nice little area to just go in and curl up with a book. The next morning I woke up to the aroma of the most amazing breakfast. There were other guests there too, and everybody sat at a big table and talked and enjoyed this marvelous breakfast that had been prepared for us by Kate. She uses real china, and real coffee cups! There were muffins, any kind of cereal, wonderful scrambled eggs, toast with jam, coffee, a big variety of teas, etc. - you definitely do not come away hungry. It was such a lovely experience. I live in a very fast-paced city where it is hard to find nice people There's too much traffic, too many people, too much trash, too much of everything. When I visit a town like Caribou and meet people from other walks of life, I am enchanted. Visiting this wonderful town, and staying in this Inn makes me want to move to Caribou and live like they do; it made me see life from a different perspective. Unfortunately, my time was up and I had to leave. If I ever find myself in the northern-most area of Maine again, I will most definitely stay here again; but, next time, I will stay much longer - if they will have me. I loved the innkeepers and their beautiful, warm home. Can you tell I loved it?! p.s. There is good free wi-fi and plenty of free parking. No TVs in the rooms, but you won't want one.

We were lucky to be checked in by Melissa. She was so accommodating. She was all smiles, friendly,…read moreand full of information. We did a switcheroo of our rooms and she had no problems fixing it. When we asked if she would make reservations of us for dinner, she didn't have a problem with it. (You can tell that we had problems during our trip.) She had a great attitude. If I was her employer, I would keep her because she was all professional.

They're hot tub doesn't work no outside entrances to the rooms all pet rooms on the second floor so no upgrades if you have a pet. All you get is a standard room smells like poop. They have one vending machine for drinks if you want to bag of chips you have to buy them from the counter 45 g bag( Halloween trick-or-treat size) for $2 that's on real if they're already charging you close to $200 don't you think that they would have a reasonable price and size on the bag of chips. There is no restaurant. But a free waffle breakfast that you have to make in the morning whoop whoop. There is no bartender here tonight so no drinks. Also they charge my credit card the same night instead of in the morning so I could not add anything to it, cannot make any phone calls or they have to charge my credit card again which this was their mistake you never charge someone's credit card unless they ask you to, until the next morning. I usually like to pay cash in the morning. This is so unprofessional. So I asked for receipt but wouldn't even give me a receipt. If you charge me you need to give me receipt . she said it wouldn't be ready until morning well then my card isn't ready to be charged until I get a receipt. Also I noticed cracks in the walls that they need to have fixed. I am not a happy customer. I recommend the comfort inn. now it's 38 minutes from the best western under $80 a night and pets stay for free. Next time I'm in the area I'll be staying at the comfort inn and suites it's in Edmonston New Brunswick

They offer raspberry, blueberry, and apple this time around and they never disappoint! The maple syrup is local and the yogurt is from across the river in Canada. Everything is super fresh and always delicious! Highly recommend staying here any time of year, but especially great in the winter time as you can bring your snow mobile and park right out front and drive down Main Street to the trails after a hearty breakfast! Don't forget they also have a full bar and restaurant as well from 4-9 in the evening. The smoked Old Fashioned is amazing and made generously with a proper Luxardo cherry & dehydrated orange peel. They also have season drink specials that were equally tempting. For dinner, the scallops fettuccini with broccolini were perfection and not gritty. Service here is always warm and friendly, as well as quick and efficient! The ambiance is a lovely little upscale pub. Everyone here is delighted that you came and remembers you even if it was last year. This is why we come back year after year and will be back again!
