Needed a coolant vent. I had it but no place to do it. I required the upper intake being removed. Car ran perfectly. It took two days to complete. I was told all was good to go except for the miss.. the six cylinder car ran on four cylinders. It was Christmas time and I had to travel. All the fuel that wasn't burned ended up in the oil. Causing huge leaks! Was told I needed sensors and injectors and my key ring was too heavy. (4 keys). I paid an additional $500.00 to repair. The tech,() had tightened down the upper intake on the wiring harness and destroyed part of it. His mistake came out of my pocket. All for a simple fix. I had been in the automotive business for 30 years and this was a customer of mine that I tried to support. I've had some really great customers, but avoid this one at all costs! read more

As a parent who is 6 hours away and your college student has car issues this place is a lifesaver! They made our son feel comfortable, he is not mechanical. The mechanic was hilarious were his words. Dads is great! You just need to know what to expect. Mark, the owner, caters very well to people that are looking for a really good price where the customer has some flexibility of time. The larger "national chain" mechanic shops might be better on schedule but you will absolutely pay more for the work. If cost is not a concern or if you are in a big hurry, you better take it to the big shops or to the dealership. If you just want someone to take care of your car for the best price and do a good job at troubleshooting, then he as as good as they come. (The big mechanic places don't do a better job at troubleshooting but they will charge you to try to fix the problem). read more

Contrary to the other reviewer, we had an excellent experience. They were very thorough in their inspection of our "new" used car. Turns out the previous owner went to Dad's so we had the whole history! They told us what we needed, ordered it and fixed it the next business day. They also told us what would be cheaper getting at Walmart and Autozone. So that was cool that they didn't gouge us. read more

I don't like to write bad reviews. I had a bad experience with this place and decided to let it go and assume I was a rare case, but then several of my friends also got burned. I had a small electrical issue with my window. I was told to bring it in and drop it off. After a week of watching my car and seeing that it hadn't moved I called in to check the progress. He told me that he was waiting on a part that would cost me $300+ $100 labor. As my car was still drivable I asked for it back and payed to order the part. Finally after 3 months and no progress I demanded my money back. He only gave me the money for the part and said the $100 labor was for diagnostics. On top of that he had to spread out paying me back because he didn't have the money on him. So he had no problem spending the money that was supposedly to be for a part on my car. I took the car back home to get serviced and had it fixed same day for literally half the cost. This guy is a joke. tl;dr He overcharged me and refused to give me my money back after months of no service. I was able to get the issue fixed elsewhere for $200 total. read more

I was a student at WIU from 2008-2012. My parents lived four hours away and I was having trouble with my 2000 Oldsmobile Bravada. I was frustrated and confused after having dropped over $3000 for work on it by my dad's known and "trusted" mechanic back home. Campus Pointe suggested Dads Place to me and they quickly found the root of my problems instead of just fixing the symptoms, as had happened to me before. Mark took the time to show and explain everything to me; so I and my parents felt comfortable and truly understood. Mark offered me the "official expensive" methods of repair and also the "affordable alternatives" that would be equally as effective. All in all- he charged a third of my dad's place back home and saved me a lot of time and money. They named it Dads place for a reason! read more

The lady I spoke with over the phone was extremely friendly and my son was able to get his car in right away. They had to order the parts (brakes/rotors) and said it would be there in a short amount of time. They did follow up with a phone call on the first day, however, the fail was saying it would be fixed the next day and it wasn't. Didn't get a phone call that time. Long story short provide your customer with a no kidding date for parts/repair and let them make the choice if they want to go with your business or someone else. read more

Mark, who is the owner of Dad's Place is extremely helpful and fair. His labor rates are reasonable, and he works well with the entire community. Dad's Place is less than a mile from a large university, and he is especially considerate of students - understanding that many of them have limited budgets. He has kept my late model Japanese vehicle in very good condition. He explains issues in a way that most people can understand. When necessary, he even works directly with dealers to get the parts that may be needed. This is definitely the best repair shop in Macomb! read more

DO NOT GO TO THIS SHOP! The owners come off friendly enough and seem to come off honest, but they absolutely aren't. I had a car taken there for overheating issues and after a few days, they "fixed" the issue and a few other things and told me everything was fixed. Car overheated literally 30 minutes after picking it up from the shop and I had to get it towed back to the shop. They worked on it again for a few days and the guy tells me it's "something else" now and they need to fix that. He came off very fishy in his explanations. After a few more days, I picked up the car and drove it home. This time I noticed my car was very shaky while in idle, it wasn't before. A week later, driving it on a 3 hour drive home, it overheated AGAIN and I was stuck on the side of the road in the middle of no where yet again. Had it towed to a different shop and the new mechanic tells me Dad's Place were ripping me off with cheap parts(he replaced my dented oil pan with a rusty one) and lying to me about everything being fixed and also noted the place should have noticed my head gaskets were leaking. So in the end, I had to junk my car because the original place I took it to(Dad's Place) fucked up my car and charged me outrageous prices only to let my car die in a few weeks. Horrible horrible service and I will never go there again. They feast off young students going to school at WIU who aren't professional mechanics and tell them lies about what is "wrong" with their car. I also can't believe the guy charged me for towing AFTER I picked it up from his shop and it died on me. Scumbags for sure. read more
