My daughter loves this place. They saw us at 8:50am after we called them at 8! The staff and doc were all personable. We weren't charged for them to look at her retainer since we were new patients and were told our next exam and X-rays were complimentary?!?!? Still reeling over this service! You would be nuts to go anywhere else...truly. No matter what age you'll love this place. The doc was very knowledgeable and caring when handling my daughter. I'm originally from California where people charge for everything and they move you around like you're on an assembly line. Our last orthodontist was a great guy but Doc Curtis is in a league of his own with this office! I just had to add this: my daughter just got back from a week long girls camp and decided to chow down on a bag of kettle corn. Needless to say her spring popped out and the wire stabbed her in the cheek. We had no idea where the spring went and she was crying because the wire was stuck in the j side of her mouth. Dr. Curtis has a plan for emergencies. He has an on-call orthodontic assistant that answered the phone promptly and agreed to meet us at the office to take care of my daughter. Did I mention that it is 8:30 at night?!?!? Yeah. Doc Curtis and staff come through for us again! And AGAIN the service was COMPLIMENTARY!!! If I could give them 10 stars I would. UPDATE: My daughter just got her braces off and just wow...in one appointment I saw my daughter go from hiding her smile to feeling confident and beautiful. If only you knew what she was going through and how this completely changed her. I wish I could express to you in words how much this meant to her and to us, her family. It may seem like such a small thing to some but for my daughter this could be life changing. Thank you so much for bringing a smile back to my daughter's face.

That said, the biggest issue is availability. It feels like the focus is more on bringing patients in than actually accommodating them once they're clients. There's very little flexibility with scheduling, and getting an appointment after school (3-5 PM) is nearly impossible. Missing school regularly just isn't a realistic option for most families. If they could improve access and scheduling flexibility, this would be a much stronger experience overall.

As an adult patient my experience with Dr. Pickard and his staff was unpleasant. After 5+ years of…read morebraces through his office and the removal of two teeth based on his reccomendation, Dr. Pickard essentially gave up on my case. Instead of proceeding with a plan and communicating the plan to me, he suggested that I should pay more money for his services (I made the mistake of paying in advance), undergo a surgical operation and other quakery. The frequently turning over of staff technicians means you will usually get a novice trainee who poorly documents changes or incorrectly applies methods. I cant tell you how many times technicians forgot to put on c-chains and I had to remind them. After switching orthodontists, my braces are now off after only one year thanks to a fresh approach. It was originally my dentist who let me know that I should get a second opinion, as she believed that Dr. Pickard was basically doing nothing and that what he was doing was totally ineffective. We observed more changes in one year at my new orthodontist then 5+ years at Pickard! He might be good for your kids but If you are an adult my advice is stay away.

Both my son and I did not get a retainer. Their new retainer machine at Dr Chafees office did not…read morework. The young girls working there are not qualified and deny being trained for that machine. Each of them said "It never works". Both my son and I did not get our completion of therapy. We were supposed to get our pictures of before and after our treatment to see if we were satisfied with the results. Jill the office manager is hostile and bullied my son and I. It was very uncomfortable to come there. Dr Chaffee hires very young inexperienced girls to work for him so he doesn't have to pay them very much. We paid for QUALIFIED orthodontic techs. Many times we left with broken brackets and needed to return again to have them replaced. Very incompetent staff. I've brought our concerns to Dr Chaffee many times. He sent us a letter saying we were no longer welcome in his office breaching our contract. I do not have a proper fitting retainer and the result of that are really spaced out front teeth worse than I started with. My son did not get a proper fitting retainer either. I had to pay our dentist $150 for his retainer. I'm paying over $850 to get composites to fill in the gaps that were created from not having a retainer. I want a refund for our braces or retainers from another facility.

Being new to the area I asked around (since there are not as many Yelpers in the CdA area as there were in California - help!!!) A reputable dentist in the area recommended Dr. Chafee and after reading Google reviews, I was convinced. I am very anti "Disneyland" orthodontists. I think the focus should be on the TREATMENT and TEETH, not spinning a prize wheel and jacking up orthodontia prices to cover the unnecessary extras. So when I saw the warm and inviting, yet still PROFESSIONAL atmosphere/direction that Dr. Chafee and his staff provide, I was sold (they do still have video games, so don't worry, kids!) :) The staff is awesome - very friendly and accommodating. Dr. Chafee is friendly and incredibly knowledgable. The before and after photos and impressions on display in the office are incredible. He took over my daughter's treatment, has worked with me on a few issues (IE I didn't want to pull two of her baby teeth because I'm cheap, so he worked around it) and he even noted some receding gum line that our previous orthodontist didn't notice. He took measurements and certain angles of pictures of the mouth that our previous orthodontist didn't take, either. Very interesting. Anyway, she is currently still in her phase 1 braces and her teeth are shaping up very nicely! Other than being sore after adjustments, she is very comfortable with the staff, doctor and office visits! My son was ready for phase 2 (final) braces and I was so impressed by Dr. Chafee's competency with my daughter and during my son's consultation that we didn't think twice about treatment with him. They filled his mouth with metal yesterday ;) and Dr. Chafee made sure I had his home and cell phone numbers if there was any emergency during after hours or weekends. That is above and beyond in my book. Hands down we recommend Dr. Chafee and his staff for outstanding orthodontia care and results!
