Our first meeting at Soho House Chicago was very relaxed and very nonintimidating. We just looked over Peter's work while sipping on some cocktails. After the meeting was over we felt like we were hanging out with an old friend and decided Peter was who we were going to choose. Our second meeting was for our engagement photos which were taken on the Chicago lakefront and then after a change of outfits we moved onto more photos on the bridges over the river and along the river. The photos came back very quickly and we were extremely happy and now excited for the outcome of our wedding photos. We got married at the London House Chicago on 10/13/18. Peter had a team 3 people with him. We spent about 2 hours walking the locations near the venue and also capturing epic pictures in the cupola overlooking the entire city. Let me start by saying that if you do alot of hunting on Yelp like I did, and look for pro photographers with a lot of experience, you will be hard-pressed to find one as flexible and affordable as Julia. She was recommended to me by another pro photographer. Though her Yelp profile is new, she's been around and established for years on her website YouMePhotography.com . After seeing her impressive portfolio and her rates, I knew I wanted to book her for the event. Julia shot the wedding of John and Sofia on April 25th, 2015 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Chicago. She was the type of photographer who was very conscious of capturing genuine and intimate moments as well as the prepared ones. And she approached it all with a big smile and knew how to make people feel comfortable and get the best out a picture be it a solo pose, couple shot, or pictures with the whole family. I've seen photographers before who just roll through a few planned poses, take the pics, and call it a day, but not Julia, she was dynamic, took both spontaneous photos and knew how to direct the most flattering ones, and adapted to the ever-changing settings and situation. My favorite part of all was where Julia had already researched around the hotel and found nearby within walking distance, a beautiful castle-esque locale complete with courtyard and garden. But it turned out to be 40 some degrees outside and windy that day so she asked the bride and groom if they still wanted to go to there or she could find something else on the spot. But they were up for it and what resulted were the most beautiful shots from the wedding with great direction to make those special moments happen. All in all 11/10. And finding the perfect photographer (within budget) was a definite stressor! We've met with several photographers and at the end of the day, we felt most comfortable with Maddie. And not to mention, all of her photos felt natural and light, NOT full of your typical prom poses of "stand here, put your hand here, look in this direction." She offers a free engagement session which we originally thought we wouldn't do... but we figured it would be a good way to get comfortable with Maddie and also having our pictures taken by a pro.
