We sat down at a table on the pavement, and took ages deciding what to eat - why? Because everything looked so delicious! The people on the neighbouring table were enthusing about their prawns, and they did look and smell delicious. In the end, I chose to have some grilled squid which was cooked to perfection, while my friends had a Spaghetti al frutti di mare and a spaghetti e gorgonzola - which I have to say didn't look as appetising as mine did! Nevertheless, we all enjoyed our meals and the lively atmosphere inside and outside the restaurant contributed along with the good food. Prices were reasonable, ranging from EUR6 to EUR15 euros for a main course. Highly Recommended!

Unfortunately it lets itself down by the way the manager behaves and food is average at best. If…read moreyou have an opportunity to try somewhere else I would recommend that as an option. It could do really well but it fails on some key basics and unfortunately that spoils what they have done well. The restaurant is a great size the tables have room and the decoration is nice. The facilities are good and the serving staff are nice enough. I would also pass on the garlic bread attempt... It looks and tastes like garlic sauce from a kebab shop best left for he kebabs and the dry bread is an easy miss.

Some family had advised us to try out an Italian restaurant in the Colonnaden in Hamburg called Il…read moredue. But waling by, it did not look so cosy so we chose another italian restaurant in the street. Da Donato. Clasical interior with red checkered tablecloths, Bast bottles hanging from the ceeling and a small altar in honor of Juventus. Tacky but traditional. My boyfriend and I were soo hungry, that we ordered a lot of food. Two Bruscette pommedoro, two Vitello Tonatto, two Linguini alle Vongole (Clams) and two pizze. WOW, we really didn't think much there. I asked the waiter if the vongole was fresh, and he replied with bringing the still breathing (opening and closing) clams on a plate, telling me, that they were brought in this morging. I was sold. I looooveee Linguini Vongole and since my boyfriend never tasted them, he ordered one too. Bruscetta was good, but avarage, The Vitello Tonato was really good. Simple, honest as it should be, without any fancy green stuff on it (see my review of Tony's). But ohhh my god was the Linguini Vongole amazing. Having lived in Firenze for a while, I know good Italian food, but this was out of this world deliscious. I have not had that good a vongole outside of Italy, and that is saying something. Halfway through our Vongole i had to resign. No Pizza for me. Same did my BF. Luckily the waiter just laughed and said he understood, but had hoped to see how we would manage that much food. So we never tried the pizza. We left with a big smile on our faces. Happy and content with full stomac and still money in the pocket. The place is not that expensive compared to the quality. I highly recommend this place for anyone with a taste for good honest Italian food.

We…read morewere quickly seated at our table and the owner of the establishment came over to introduce himself. The owner announced the specials of the day, with you could have individually or as part of a four course deal. Half the group opted for the four course option and were exceptionally pleased with the size and quality of the food. The courses were well paced and there was no feeling of being hurried, even though the place was obviously busy with a quick turnover of the tables surrounding us. Each course was really nice and they each complimented the next dish that came out. The rest of the group were more than happy with the dishes they chose, but I definitely think the four course option was the winner of the night. The wine of the month that was recommended was well priced and more importantly tasted great. Also opting for the Karaffe is a great idea if you want more than a glass of wine, either for yourself or to share. Toilets were very clean and the restaurant obviously places a high level on cleanliness. All the staff were friendly and helpful, but the owner in particular really made an effort to make us feel welcome, so that is good to know when recommending the restaurant to others from England or English speakers. Also worth noting is the need to book a table, as the place is very busy and there is good parking nearby.
