We ordered the pizza with salami , bacon , peppers and added fresh basil. It was delicious. Cooked in an electric oven that made a char on the crust. The crust was soft and you could eat all of it. The peppers were a little spicy. The basil was a bonus. They normally don't cut your pizza. We were splitting it so they cut it and gave us 2 big half's. On our last night we had pasta and pizza. Again just amazing. The crust, the sauce just perfect. The prices are quite reasonable compared to many restaurants that offer this type of food or atmosphere.

Pasta e Vino does it the right way and it shows. By having such a tight fresh pasta menu three items) they serve great pasta with very nice sauces. We went early, and on a Monday so seating was not an issue, the the tables that had reserved signs on them let us know this place fills up fast and it's not that big to begin with. It's a cool little space with a deli case right at the front so there is no hiding anything. Our two servers took great care of us, explained the menu and took our order. We both ordered the pasta carne with dirty pork and a red sauce. Tagliatelle was the pasta of the day, not sure if that changes or not. We also ordered house wine, red for me and white for the lovely K. The 1/8 litre 4 1/4 ounces for 3.5 euros wasn't expensive, but it also wasn't enough. You can order more (1/4 litre is 6 euros) which we would next time. The food came out hot and quickly and very nicely covered in Parmigiana Reggiano and was a good sized portion for 13.5 euros. Would we rave about it, probably not, but it was great!

The definition of a neighborhood joint, with only four tables inside, and a few tables outside on the patio, this will rival Little Italy in any major city back in the US. Interior decor is disjointed, but somehow works with the homemade vibe. The chef/owner does it all -- from taking orders, to clearing tables, to prepping and cooking the dishes, to closing out the bill. This place should have been jammed with a wait, so we absolutely lucked out; and if you are in town, you will have to pay a visit. Pesto pasta, and Panini's, and pizzas are all a smash hit. We certainly did not expect this type of vintage Italian food here in Salzburg, but we might have as well have been in Naples. Cash only, so don't let that take you by surprise. Also, no alcohol, but you won't need it because the food is the star of the experience. This is a must-visit if you are staying nearby.

It was really cold and I wanted to just grab some takeaway food to eat back at the hotel. Recalling that this hotel was close-by, I stopped in to get some pasta to go. This restaurant has an inexpensive menu of pasta dishes and pizzas that are under €10. In fact, my spaghetti carbonara was less than €6! While the pasta seemed like the kind you would find at the grocery store, I really enjoyed the dish as the carbonara was nice and creamy plus the pasta was topped with some fresh arugula. The service was also good and patient as I figured out what I wanted to order. If you are looking for some cheap Italian takeaway in Salzburg, this is a good place to get some nice pasta dishes.

The host was fairly gruff on approach, announcing he had a table for two but that we could only sit for 90 minutes. Fast eaters that we are, my friend and I quickly assumed him that would be fine. We each ordered a limoncello spritz and asked for 'table water,' but he said we could only order a bottle (which we did). The spritz was adequate, but the food was the true star here. My friend (who normally has only a small appetite) finished her lasagna, saying it was delicious. I ordered the Pasta aglio & olio, a simple pasta with olive oil, herbs and tomatoes. I ate past satiety (something I try not to do), because it was so good. The pasta was the perfect al dente and the grape tomatoes were delicious. Our meals did not come with any kind of bread, so that likely would have to be ordered separately. Also, silverware appeared to be stored in a canister on the table and our waiter did not seem aware that it lacked adequate forks for both my meal and my friend's. We were a solid 5 minutes into our meal and could not capture his attention. Finally one of us walked up to the middle of the restaurant to ask for a fork....interesting given their focus on limiting our time holding the table. I did appreciate the proximity of the restaurant, which was right next to a Christmas market. The inside was fairly basic, but clean. I would likely go again, for the food, but would expect surly service.

I know, I know. In Salzburg, and we want Lasagna? Well, we found Taste. It which did serve Italian food, yes, in Salzburg, mostly with seafood... unfortunately, I don't really care for seafood. Chef Walter Sanguedolce himself came and greeted us, a nice touch. We could tell he was a master of his Sicilian cooking since the majority of his menu included seafood. Did I mention I don't care for seafood? Anyway, the Lasagna lovers in the group opted for the Spaghetti Bolognese and it was fairly good, but a tad under seasoned. My wife had Spaghetti Pompadour, but she thought there was a wee bit too much garlic for her liking; she does not like garlic as much as I do. Regardless, the staff were all gracious and accommodating, especially considering that none of our group spoke Italian. Plus it was a treat to meet Chef Walter San-guedolce himself. So, if you do like seafood and want an excellent meal prepared by a Chef specializing in Sicilian cooking, you owe it to yourself to check out Taste.It.
