After reading the stellar reviews on Yelp, how do you not go to this little place. Now we make pasta at home and have taken some classes in Italy to refine our technique. Pasta e Vino does it the right way and it shows. By having such a tight fresh pasta menu three items) they serve great pasta with very nice sauces. We went early, and on a Monday so seating was not an issue, the the tables that had reserved signs on them let us know this place fills up fast and it's not that big to begin with. It's a cool little space with a deli case right at the front so there is no hiding anything. Our two servers took great care of us, explained the menu and took our order. We both ordered the pasta carne with dirty pork and a red sauce. Tagliatelle was the pasta of the day, not sure if that changes or not. We also ordered house wine, red for me and white for the lovely K. The 1/8 litre 4 1/4 ounces for 3.5 euros wasn't expensive, but it also wasn't enough. You can order more (1/4 litre is 6 euros) which we would next time. The food came out hot and quickly and very nicely covered in Parmigiana Reggiano and was a good sized portion for 13.5 euros. What a gem this restaurant is! The reviews were good on Yelp so we decided to try it - so glad we did. Only wish it wasn't our last night in Salzburg because we would have been back again. They serve 3 specials to choose from for the night. Hubby and I both went with the pasta with sausage. Yummy . And the house red wine was delicious. Reasonable prices. Service was excellent. A wonderful gem in Salzburg. Charming service. Menu changes. A well crafted meal in a cozy cafe. What a great little spot! Make a reservation or you might be disappointed. We had a reservation for 5:45 and by the time we left at 7, the line was out the door! Why, you ask? Well that's easy. Great food and drink at a reasonable price. If you go know there is no menu. Your server will list the appetizer of the day as well as the 3 pasta presentations for that day. There is also beer and wine and 3 dessert options. Prices are not given but know for 4 of us with 2 bottles of water. 1 bottle of wine, a beer, an app (split) and 4 entrees it was only €106 or about €25 a person. On this night, the app was a cheese/meat and veggie plate. One was plenty big for the 4 of us. The pastas were prawn, bacon and tomato, and tomato and olive. There was also a beef or veggie lasagna choice from the display case. The food came up quickly ,was a nice portion size and did I say delicious?? And our bottle of wine was only €18 but their house wine is even cheaper. This was a great little find which caters to the locals so we were lucky someone mentioned it to us and even luckier we could get in. Pasta e Vino is an excellent Italian restaurant offering a pared down menu of high-quality pastas and wine at a killer price. It's a must try if you find yourself in Salzburg craving a little taste of the other side of the Alps. Unlike your typical restaurant, Pasta e Vino doesn't have a traditional menu. The waiter describes the appetizer and few dishes, mainly pastas, that they are offering that day and you can choose whatever sounds best. If you've ever found yourself trudging through the 50-page tome that is the Cheesecake Factory menu, I'm sure you can appreciate the simplicity of this old school approach. One of the benefits of keeping your offerings limited is that the restaurant can really focus on the quality of each dish, and that was clearly true of the food here. Both of our entrees were wonderful, and the house white wine they served was one of the better glasses I enjoyed on our entire trip. One of the scary things about no written menu is that you don't actually know the cost of what you are ordering until the bill comes. I guess one could ask the waiter during the ordering process, but who really wants to be "that" guy? When the bill did finally come I was certainly surprised, but thankfully it was in a good way. Our meal of two pasta entrees and two drinks came out to €32, which was easily one of the best deals we had in Austria. Wonderful food! There is no printed menu so be ready to hear what they are servicing. There seems to be several choices each night. And all are fantastic. The house Merlot is terrific! Smooth and even. Inside seating only if you don't have a reservation. Outside seating is reservation only. But there's a nice feel inside. Staff speaks English and very accommodating. This is a stylish neighborhood restaurant. They serve a few pasta dishes each night. Tonight there were three dishes. There is not a huge selection, but I am guessing the meals they do provide are equally delicious. My tagliatelle with asparagus and veal in a cream sauce was spectacular. Guys this review will shock you. We arrived 10 min early for our 8pm Res. Manager was practiced at not making any eye contact with us or giving us any updates. After waiting 30 minutes, our waiter pressed us hard to get our entire meal order in before drinks were even offered. We should have been alerted when waiter wanted to know if we wanted our salads first. We said yes. But just 4 min later our salad and full entrees arrived. The salad was pre prepared at least 4 hours earlier and must have been sitting in the ice box. It was the worst we have had in 3 weeks travel. So dry the lettuce could have been used as sand paper. Nobody checked with us to notice they never delivered bread and ask about the food. In fact, the manager was spending time with a friend and brought out beers to enjoy, instead of taking care of business. (See picture) We tried to sort out the situation with the cold pasta but two of the staff members couldn't even agree on what had been ordered. They took the food back and then later brought back incorrect dish. There's no physical menu at Pasta e Vino - the chef decides which dishes will be offered each day. Diners may choose from three different pasta dishes: one meat, one fish, or one veg. I chose the seafood offering, which was butterfish with artichokes and tomatoes. All of the ingredients were incredibly fresh and the flavors were well balanced. The generous sprinkle of dried parsley really emphasized the brightness of the dish! I wished I had three stomachs, because all of the options sounded and looked delicious. By the way, make sure you start your dinner with antipasto. The selection of meat, cheese, and veggies was killer. I've found most of the restaurants in Salzburg overpriced, but my bill at Pasta e Vino was quite reasonable for the high quality and generous quantity of food. The best meal of our trip. I loved having just a few choices -- on our evening, the pastas were bolognese, clams or pumpkin ravioli. All sounded great, but we went with the bolognese and the clams, which were both delicious. The antipasti platter had SO much food! We couldn't finish it all, but it was a nice selection of cheeses, meats and marinated veggies (the little carrot balls were so cute). We also got a beer and a coke, and the whole meal only came out to 40 euro. What a great deal! This place made me feel like I was back in Italy! Our group of 4 had an excellent dinner at Pasta e Vino. This charming restaurant is a short walk away from Mirabellplatz and gardens but perfectly far enough away from the main tourist area. Small indoor and medium outdoor seating is available. We didn't have reservations so we had to sit inside since they were preparing for a large party of 40 outside. Service was friendly, they can accomadate German, English, and Italian speakers. Like other reviews mention there are no menus so our server went over the 3 options for pasta dishes they were serving that day: calamari, pork ragu, pesto. I split the calamari and pesto pasta dishes and we ordered bread and a veggie and cheese antipasto platter to share. Antipasto plate was divine! The veggies were so fresh and seasoned well, I loved the assortment of eggplant, spinach, beans, peppers, sun dried tomatoes. All of us were very impressed with the how well the pasta itself was cooked. Calamari pasta was perfection and Pesto was very good as well, although it had a heavier, richer flavor. We managed to have just enough room to split a piece of Tiramisu for dessert- So good! 5 stars for everything- food flavor, quality, ambiance, service, location, prices. We have had three wonderful dinners now in Salzburg. This Italian bistro has an interesting concept that works... No menu - simple, do you want red or white wine? (the white was very nice, so we had a second half liter); do you want the antipasta (the answer should be yes - they cut the meats, cheeses, etc right at the butcher counter while you watch from your table); then you have a choice of 3 pasta dishes - a vegetarian, a fish or a meat pasta sauce. Everything was fresh & tasty. It may not be a 5 star experience (paper napkins for example), but it's busy, lively, good food & more like 2 star pricing because of this simplicity of menu. We had a liter of wine, the generous antipasta plate with bread basket, & the pasta dishes for $41 Euro...hard to beat that unless you go to Prague! read more

My girlfriend and I came here on a whim when passing through Salzburg for a night. WOW! We were blown away. While we sat outside in early October and it was a little cold, the quality of the wine and food was second to none. We had the Pumpkin and Truffle Cream Pasta and the Sausage and Bean Pasta. The pasta - cooked perfectly al dente and moist. The flavor - I've never had a truffle sauce that was so delicate, subtle, and flavorful all at the same time. Dare I say these dishes rival what I've found in Italy. The best part was the price - about 30 Euro for both of us for two pastas and 4 glasses of wine. Lasagna was so good " I actually looked around and thought about licking the dish , it was in a small ceramic dish and held the loose sauce perfectly, the marinara sauce was melted with the ricotta cheese to make one tongue lapping sauce , which held the little nuggets of meat to top it off layered with what had to be home made noodles (very tender ) and all covered with a home made mozzarella cheese. This place is interesting, but not bad. There is no menu so they tell you what they are serving that day. You can choose from an antipasti to start with and three different types of pasta. I got the pumpkin and cheese pasta and my partner got the white fish pasta with tomato sauce. It came out hot and fresh and a hearty helping, but mine wasn't very good, personally. I read the fabulous reviews so we made reservations. We were less than pleased with how we were treated compared to the other guests. The food was good, but we were only offered three pasta items. Everyone that arrived after us obviously had been their before or could speak better with them because they spoke in German or Italian. They received anti pasta and bread offers too. Our food arrived well after all those that came in after us. We were offered dessert well after all had had theirs, grappa/ coffee/ etc and left. Our friends picked this place as they had been here a couple of year ago. Definitely was worth the walk! At Pasta e Vino, except the full Italian treatment. The charismatic waiters will explain that they can prepare an antipasto for you, and that there are only 3 pasta's on the menu for the day. We each tried a pasta - i had the spaghetti pecorino e cozze. It wasn't the best i had - but it was still up there as being pretty good. the muscles were fresh - but they didnt come in their shells. Husband had the crema di funghi - which was also extremely tasty. The antipasto was fantastic too - fresh Italian meat cuts and cheeses. And it was all cut fresh which is important when serving cold meats. The service isn't the best - BUT, still friendly and they have an easy going atmosphere - that if you really need something you can just get up and go to the counter to ask for it... This is authentic Italian - located right in the heart of Salzburg. It's down the street a little further than the map tells you but once you are inside you are in for a real treat. They didn't have a menu - just an option for a healthy sized antipasti plate that came with meats, cheeses and cold vegetables and then three different pasta options. The pasta portions were huge and steaming hot. The place was immaculately clean. I had one glass of delicious red house wine and my husband and I split a big bottle of Pelligrino. Stumbled upon this little gem while walking around Salzburg on holiday and loved the food! The food was 100% five stars but do not expect too much from the ambiance (small, cramped quarters). We elected to skip the antipasti (we were having a very late lunch and getting ready to catch a train back to Germany) but the pasta dishes themselves were superb. Like others, we had the choice between three dishes (Bolognese which was my favorite, a tuna and oil dish, and a cherry tomato and arugula dish). We were a party of four and we tried all three dishes and all were above expectation. I was pleasantly surprised with the large portion of fresh homemade pasta. After spending 2.5 weeks traveling throughout Europe this was by far one of the top two places we ate. Four entrees and a carafe of wine were roughly $50 euros.... Wow. I have to admit, I was a little skeptical of this restaurant, which is not on the main drag and is quite small, but it blew me away. Everything was fantastic, from the service, to the excellent antipasti, to the bread, the wine, and the dinners, which were phenomenal. I have never had such a wonderful Italian meal. The olive oil was rich and buttery, and the pumpkin and bacon pasta in white wine cream sauce was to die for.
