Cucina Italiana Da Pasquale is a hidden gem, a tiny piece of Italy tucked away on the corner of Calle Lincoln and Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla. A couple of blocks west-northwest of the famous Glorieta Minerva in Guadalajara.
The owner and chef is Pascuale himself, an Italian immigrant to Mexico, bringing authenticity to this Italian bistro. This place is understated, literally the carport and front patio of a house. There is only limited street parking. Signage is minimal. My good friends who live in Guadalajara say it's the best Italian restaurant in the city and their favorite place to go. Thankfully, they were driving and knew how to get there!
The ambience is casual, warm, intimate, and welcoming. The smell of garlic and herbs greets you along with the "buenas tardes," from Pasquale who is busy cooking behind a counter and his staff.
For decoration, there are some potted plants, antique style cupboards in the back, a chalkboard sign with the day's menu... tables with red and white checkerboard tablecloths... You feel like you're entering someone's home patio, and you are.
The server brought us some toasted seasoned italian bread to whet our appetite while we pondered the menu. I chose Fusilli Pesto, a pasta dish with shrimp and a cilantro pesto sauce, toasted almonds, and a few veggies... I was absolutely a culinary triumph. I have seldom had Italian food I enjoyed as much - and I have traveled to Italy!
I did not notice if they served wine. I ordered limonada (limeade) which was delicious and refreshing.
Cucina Italiana Da Pasquale is only open weekdays 12:30 PM - 4 PM in keeping with normal lunchtime hours for Mexico. They are closed on weekends, or whatever days Pascuale takes a trip to visit family in Italy. You can call to make reservations or to confirm they are open. +52 33 3479 8831
I would love the opportunity to return and try more of Pascuale's dishes. If you like Italian food and are in the Guadalajara, you need to save this place and make a point to go. read more
