From start to finish Jody and her team were wonderful to work with--they were highly knowledgeable, professional, communicative, and responsive, and took the time to make sure everything was designed and completed to a high standard. This project is something we'd been wanting to do for years, and it came out better than we could have imagined! We had a lot of different goals for what's a fairly small front yard with quite a bit of shade: we wanted an attractive design that would reduce water use and maintenance needs, support pollinators throughout the full growing season, create a firebreak near the house, have a nice space for our kids to enjoy, and add some edible plants/berries/herbs if possible. Wild Heritage went above and beyond in delivering on all of these criteria, and it's a strong testament to their experience, passion, and deep knowledge of landscape design, sustainable planting, water management, and construction. Our new front yard has quickly become a favorite place for our whole family to spend time, and our kids love running around the path, sitting on the rocks, watching bumblebees and ladybugs, and admiring each new flower that blooms. Our 6-year-old son now asks to go outside with us every night to read on the patio and is beyond excited to pick strawberries, gooseberries, honeyberries, and cherries as the plants grow and mature. And thanks to the high-quality soil, customized drip irrigation system, and detailed instructions Wild Heritage provided, the plants are already growing like crazy just a few short weeks after being planted. We've already gotten tons of compliments from our neighbors (both on our street and some that have been driving by), and we can't wait to see how our garden grows and changes over the coming years. We would highly recommend Wild Heritage Gardens to anyone considering this (or any) kind of landscaping project!

I do understand the issues I am seeing in these other reviews. I have been a customer since 2008,…read morestarting with a design renovation project of our small urban property after a major foundation repair in which much land had to be moved. As long as that was needed, we contracted with Native Edge for the work, after getting a recommendation from a neighbor. Tom Sunderland, the owner and founder did the design plan himself for the restructuring of a portion of the yard with a rock garden, as the slope was really too steep to continue use as a lawn as had been planted 70 years earlier. His plan worked very well. We also added a small efficient irrigation system with a rain meter that would keep it from running when raining. The system was a bit complicated given the layout of the property and the old plumbing of the house and perhaps the irrigation design person of that era could have been more thoughtful in long term results. But they have built up their irrigation program since then and we have worked with that system with some modifications over the years. Tom also designed and we contracted with Native Edge in 2010 to rebuild the native sandstone patio from the 50s and that has been very successful too. We do our own lawn mowing currently though one year we needed to relocate for 3 months and they were able to cover that need too. But their equipment was a bit large for our tiny angles of space and when we returned we went back to our own battery operated, small residential machine. I do agree with a previous review that in the past there has been some inconsistency in their yard maintenance staffing. They did have a talented client manager for about 8 years who was very hands on with clients, helped redesign and upgrade our irrigation but when he left the company, sadly just before the onset of the pandemic, there was quite a gap in service during the quick turnover of staff. That seems to have been resolved recently with the addition of some newer and well trained staff and as we are now going into a second year with our current client manager, I am pleased to continue with their services. I do like that I can have a seasonal contract yet if needed, hire for additional help in an emergency, such as tree damage debris cleanup after a windstorm as happened this winter. They have the equipment to remove the debris and take it away to be used as compost when shredded. Not anything we could have done ourselves. It is true true that they no longer do residential snow removal in Boulder. And yes, it was rather short notice but some other firms have made the same decision as I discovered when looking for a replacement. They are hard to staff. But I have found another local firm that does and will post a review of them separately. I can see this going to a 5 star review update in the future if the current plans and promises are fulfilled. The cost seems in line with what I could find when comparing such services, which some of us need to depend on. Given our location and needs, I think this is has been really good choice overall.

I asked that it be ready to plant in the spring as it was late fall by the time they got around to making the bed. They covered the bed with landscape cloth. In April I emailed asking to be put on the schedule so the plants could be put in while the weather was mild. I got emails saying they were looking to see if plants were available , then responses saying they were waiting for price estimates. I contacted Jennifer and sent a photo in May of the very tall weeds and grass growing under the landscape cloth. I said I needed them to come finish the job. Got emails saying they would get with me soon, and I have only gotten emails saying they are woking on it. I myself took almost 40 hours to pull weeds and grass out of the bed. Then I mulched all 1400 sq. feet. It's now mid-June and will be 95 degrees for the forseeable future. I lost the window to plant while the weather was mild and wet, great for starting plants. I will now have to look at a huge area of brown outside my front windows for the 2025 summer. Wish I would have hired someone else!

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. While the people at Matrix are kind and I have a lot of respect for their…read morefounder Alison Peck, I sadly have to give this company one star for their way of doing business. Not only do they charge for an initial consultation (I've never encountered this before with a landscape design company), but their rough draft portion of the design was REALLY ROUGH and incomplete. It felt rushed and amateur. I gave them a plan to work off of, that was admittedly not fully accurate. I told them this, and expected them to take some photos and some quick measurements to ensure the blueprint they would work from would be accurate. This did not happen. So when their designer Kelsie Cady brought me the rough draft it had things on it that weren't there (a tree and several bushes), but it was also missing things that were there (where the current stone terrace was), so the rough draft was not just rough, but basically not based on reality, and it had a whole section just left blank. I have worked in garden design and the company I worked for always ensured that the blueprint we worked from was accurate from the start, otherwise, why bother; and, we would have never arrived with an incomplete design, even in the rough draft phase. I then tried to bring this up with Kelsie, but was given a complicated explanation as to how Matrix does its work, and how it was meant to save me money. Had she gotten the blueprint right, it's true, this would have saved me money. I proposed that I would pay them half and I asked them to have another go at a rough draft with an accurate blueprint, but they would not budge. Given that Kelsie would not even address the inaccuracies and the unfinished sections of the design, it became clear to me that going forward with this company would be a very bad idea. So I paid them, and I'm now out $600 with absolutely nothing to show for it. This is not how a professional company should work. I would absolutely recommend you look elsewhere if you want professional landscape design work done.
