What began as a simple project just kept growing. We have a 1928 Spanish bungalow that required some major plumbing work. Daniel updated the main, plumbed a bathroom, replaced corroded drains in the second bathroom that were causing major issues (of which we were not aware of and saved us from a HUGE problem in the near future). Some electrical rewiring was updated in the basement. YAY! Within 1 week, the main and most of the plumbing is brand new with quality materials. Our basement is gorgeous! Miguel and Daniel constructed a new ceiling with all the plumbing hidden providing more height (raised the pipes), recessed lighting, additional light switches (modern with a remote), excellent carpentry, crown molding, created a finished storage closet which includes shelves for easy access, a new door jam and door with updated lighting within and added some special touches for ease, convenience and a curved ceiling to match the charm of rest of the house. Hector joined the team to do a detailed paint job. A lovely vinyl floor was placed to finish off the project. There were so many other things done by a professional, remarkable and talented team. We pulled up carpet in our 1910 Victorian and Salinas, hoping to find Oak floors, but found redwood floors. Chris explained the challenge of using these as finished flooring and based on my experiencing construction is explanation made perfect sense. We asked for a price to go over the redwood subfloor and he made a reasonable bid. He had shown us some pictures of particularly attractive design work, which we liked. We spoke with him about this, and he described the work involved in the price. This all seemed reasonable, and after a couple of back-and-forth agreed upon a price. He started the job on time communicating well with the contractor who was working in the house doing tile work, a budding the wood floor work. Overall, the job was extremely smooth and the finished product was breathtaking.

I was up late moving stuff off the floor and out of the house, so I forgot to set my alarm Sunday night. I woke up next morning about an hour after the start time to a message from him saying he had arrived at the scheduled time, but that was it. Only one phone call and he was nowhere to be seen. My car was parked out front so it was pretty obvious I was there. I have a very loud doorbell so it's pretty clear he didn't ring it or try the door - since the door was unlocked. He could very easily have opened it and yelled inside. I tried calling him and texting him multiple times, but he didn't pick up or respond until late the following day. He said he might be willing to do the job at some point, but not for at least two weeks and that he didn't appreciate his time being wasted. I said I understood, that wasn't my intent, but that my time was wasted too. By that point though I figured it was probably best to go any other route and anyway I couldn't wait another couple of weeks to have him maybe do it/maybe not. So, I had to try to find another contractor to do the job last minute and it ended up being a pretty big hassle. It seems like he had another bigger job that he wanted to do instead and was looking for an out. Anyway I realize the situation was partially my fault, but I think he handled it pretty unprofessionally. Take it for what it's worth, but I would probably recommend looking elsewhere.

I will be honest, we picked Chris because of the photos on his Instagram and because we liked him when he came to give us an estimate. I have to trust someone who is going to be in our home for an extended period of time, and Chris is very trustworthy. But enough about that.... his work! Oh. My. Goodness. First of all, Chris is so easy to work with. He communicates often and well without being overbearing. Chris helped us figure out what we wanted. We were really only going to add shelves and cabinets in my office, but while he was here for the estimate, we had him measure our dining room, master bedroom, and a niche in the hallway for built-ins. He drew up sketches and we tweaked them about 4 or 5 times. The designs were so good that we decided to bite the bullet and go for all five built-ins (a bar, a buffet, a wall unit in our master bedroom, and 2 units in my office). The quality, in my humble opinion, is outstanding -- solid wood construction, dovetail joints, full-height back panels, soft-close drawers AND cabinet doors, smooth and strong drawer glides. And the painters did an amazing job. The finish is so smooth! The price tag was a nice chunk of money for us (we do not have loads of disposable income). But looking at the work that was done, the amount we paid is very reasonable. I can honestly say it was worth every single penny. The indication of a good decision is that you would do it all over again, and we definitely would. As a matter of fact, we will probably have Shoreline rip out our kitchen (which is only 3 years old as our home is new construction) and go to town with new WELL-MADE cabinets and pantry. They removed the old random sheet rock and some plywood and discovered two rotted studs. No problem, they replaced them, saying all jobs have surprises. There was also some poorly-dressed electrical wiring, but they came up with creative ways to install the sheet rock and protect the wiring. When they applied the plaster, it looked good to me, but they went over the surfaces two more times and produced a final glass-like surface finish. They did a really good job with the details like the electrical outlets, breaker box, and windows. I thought their charge was very reasonable. Their work habits were amazing! They always arrived on time and over the three days, I don't think they wasted a total of thirty seconds! They operated independently and efficiently but would come together on parts that required cooperation. It seemed almost telepathic. They were real gentlemen, had a good sense of humor, and good taste in music, and they left my garage cleaner than they found it. If I had another job of this kind, I'd hire them immediately. The fit up of the garbage disposal was tricky due to the depth of the sink and all the plumbing underneath the sink had to be redone and rerouted. Manny expertly performed the functions patiently and to the highest quality. He did a masterful job of patching the wall inside the cabinets.
