I've only had Indonesian food a few times and it's always a plethora of small plates. This was different & I loved it! Fast-casual dining, I started with the Satay which comes with some amazing rice and is a meal in itself. The menu is vegetarian-friendly, the food was clean (not saucy) and the service was good. I'm not an expert on Indonesian cuisine, but thanks to the tight and tempting menu at D'Jawa I'm hoping to become one quickly. I've already tested Kwe Tiaw, the Indonesian version of Pad Thai, which was scrumptious but just a tad wet for my taste. The chicken satay, several skewers of chicken chunks served over white rice and smothered in a sinfully delicious coconut/peanut sauce was incredible however, raising my rating from a four to five star. What I love is how fresh everything is, but yet how fast they get it on a plate. I also appreciate the bright, raw scallions and tomatoes that they top every dish for a nice bit of color and crunch. As we were close by at Galerie Lafayette we decided to seek out something different than the usual fare in Paris. After a small mix up and a stop off at Le Java for a quick drink, we continued down the street and came to the yummy D'Jawa. Great fun with owner/chef and other staff in both English and French. Actually, it is worth a 4.5! Why don't you have half stars Yelp!?! After a disappointing morning trying to work at a near-by café, my friends and I dropped to eat a little something on our way to the library. The place was unfortunately closed (it was past 3pm...) and they had just closed the kitchen. But, wait! They did serve us anyway, re-opened the kitchen and did with what they had! Super nice! The food was excellent, generous portions. Very tasty. I am definitely going back. En plus: Super nice people! Not only did they re-opened the kitchen for us, but they also talk to us, inquire about our food, etc. without being annoying or anything. It was just relaxed and pleasant! I'm not extremely familiar with Indonesian food, so I tried this restaurant at lunchtime today. Food was very good, and all the staff is extremely friendly. Wish I could rate it 4 stars, however I found that paying 9€ for one bowl of noodles + tofu was really expensive for value. Absolutely phenomenal. A true hidden gem close to the Opera district in Paris. Sure, Paris is full of Michelin-rated haute cuisine establishments and all, but what I truly enjoy is a hearty, nutritious dinner that can be had for an inexpensive price. This is exactly what this restaurant had provided. The beef rendang was excellent, and the portions were very generous, especially by Parisian standards. I will make sure to visit again on my next trip to Paris. Top notch!!! read more
