Chef Foy and his wife Estella operate a wonderful little restaurant. Don't let the outside fool you. The food more than makes up for it. A great neighborhood restaurant with world class cuisine. You must try the tian of crab. Rack of lamb was fabulous. Sole was moist and a wonderful lemony flavor. Portions allow for enjoying the dessert selections. Limited menu but something for everyone. When our original reservation (with a different restaurant) was canceled we found D'Floret. I can't believe I've missed this place for this long. It is a tiny restaurant, but adorable and beautifully decorated. We chose it because of BYO and the interesting menu, as well as the positive reviews. We went on a Thursday night (my birthday celebration) and the restaurant was busy but didn't feel overcrowded. The service was lovely and friendly and the food was delicious and beautifully prepared. It was an extra treat for us at the end of the night to get to chat with the owners. They are really sweet people and it is purely obvious that they love what they do, and it shows in this cute little restaurant. Don't hesitate to reserve a table at this little bistro. Our 3rd time at this restaurant and I can't say enough good things about this place. The food is delicious EVERY TIME and BYOB! Last nice my husband got the veal chop special and I got the sole, both of which we normally wouldn't choose but they came recommended by the owner's wife, who was our server, and they didn't disappoint. Truly enjoyed our first meal at D'Floret. Due to weather we were able to snag a table on the back patio last minute. We shared the mushroom crepe appetizer. Very delicious. Then we got the lamp chop entree and the halibut entree. The lamb chops were of a good portion, cooked to perfection and very tasty. The tomato based sauce was very good along with the side. 5 stars, Really. Back in the 1990s when I lived in the West Village Manhattan, we used to dine frequently at restaurant EQ which was Dennis Foy's flagship higher-end eatery back then. Named after Dennis' wife, EQ was a luxurious little place that served exciting fancy cuisine that you'd expect in the East 60's near the park. Today, D'Floret in Lambertville delivers a very similar experience. Excellent meal! Food and service 10/10- everything was great, for starters we loved the ambiance! Cozy and intimate we could tell a lot of the couples around us had been there before and we now know why... we ordered the special tortellini which came with a light cream truffle sauce as an appetizer (could have also ordered as an entree) and the warm green bean salad to start- so good! We then ordered the seared day boat scallops and rack of lamb. Both were cooked perfectly and one of the best dishes we have ever had. The sauces were the kind that you didn't want any to go to waste and you couldn't put your finger on the flavors- sweet and flavorful with a hint of cinnamon. Highly recommend both dishes! For dessert we ordered the profiteroles- perfect way to end the meal with homemade chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream. We were so grateful for Estella's hospitality and welcoming presence. My wife and I visited D'Floret for an early Sunday dinner. As is our tradition on our anniversary; we try to travel outside our usual haunts to try something new and refreshing. After visiting the website for D'Floret I was excited to dine with Chef Foy. We arrived and were immediately impressed. Being the first guest of the evening we were able to chat with Chef and his wife Estella for a bit. Of course all was not perfect. Usually when we dine out we can peruse the menu and within a minute or two identify the winners that are being offered, a couple of follow up questions to the staff and we are good to go. Not so at D'floret. After struggling to find something to order from the menu, we called over our server to discuss the options. She was of little help since she just confirmed what we already suspected. You see the problem was that EVERYTHING on the menu was amazing! Luckily for us a voice of reason cake from the kitchen. You see, Chef Foy offered to cook for us! The only decision we had to make was the number of courses. (We settled on 4) We had beautiful shrimp, tuna, scallops and Lamb like you've never tasted before. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so enjoy. Thank you to Estella and Chef for the 1st of many wonderful meals. Would we recommend D'Floret? Uh, Yes! Our only regret is that it took so long for us to find it. read more

Had dinner with a dear friend on Friday evening. It was so great to see her so the evening was going to be a pleasure. This restaurant was the icing on the cake. The soup special was mushroom. Really, really good. Creamy but not overly, mushroom-y but not overly. Enjoyed it so much. We both had the scallops. Perfectly cooked and very, very tasty. But the very best was the apple pie and the over the top ice cream. So why did I give it a 4? It was the bathroom. I know it's not part of the meal, but is part of the restaurant experience. Came for dinner on a Friday. The alfresco seating on the patio was comfortable. Ordered the fish taco appetizers and our friends the crabmeat tian and the gnocchi. The tacos were a bit messy but were very tasty. The gnocchi were outstanding. The crabmeat was not a hit as it was a bit mushy in consistency. Ordered the sous vide filet which was fantastic, came at medium rare as ordered. The wife got the hake but did not like it. Amazing !!! This BYOB lovely restaurant is something we will talk about for years to come . The mushroom gnocchi and the cucumber salad made our taste buds dance after a long day of Great shopping in this town. We typically go to Hamilton's Grill Room for our anniversary dinner but changed it up a little. Very happy with our decision. Highly recommend the gnocchi and filet. Charming, bright, inviting space with impactful, lyrical art on the walls created by the perhaps owner (?) who waited on us. She made us feel very welcome and was attentive and was passionate about all we were about to eat. A delight. We started with the celery soup which immediately transported us to waves of glory on the tastebuds. It was nothing short of magical, rich, lush, and decadent. How the humble celery was transported to something so subtle yet glorious was beyond me. I had a fish special that was expertly prepared and fresh as could be, with a golden delicate shimmery crust, served along a bean and vedge/herb mash that celebrated the fish perfectly. My friend had the quiche which was a mixture of cheeses, eggs, vedge and cream blended softly and deftly into a tall buttery crust. Every bite was transformative. We finished our meal with the profiteroles. A homemade chocolate sauce emphasized the beautiful airy crust on the pastry that encased a lovely vanilla icecream. The in-house pastry chef was also the talented hand that prepared our meal under the kind gaze of the head chef and she is on her way to stardom in her own right. read more

Horrible service. Overpriced. Cash only. Tiny space. This place cuts a lot of corners to make a profit (can list many examples of this but I'll spare you the details). Let's get to the main issue. Waited 1.5 hours for our entrees. The entrees were tiny and we left hungry (in fact left and got more food after). Chef's food was good overall with the exception of the salmon that smelled too fishy. However, everything on the menu was way overpriced. We waited so long for our food even though we were one of the first tables seated for dinner. We asked for a second bread basket since we were left without food for so long and the waitress rolled her eyes and said ok, but didn't return to the table the rest of the night!! No joke. Sent her junior to our table. Bread came and it was a half a bread roll for 6 people. Unbelievable. That's not how you get repeat business. The only plus was that it was BYOB with no cork fee. My fiancé and I came here for the first time on Friday and it was PHENOMENAL. The space is cozy and welcoming. The menu is so delicious- the tortellini was luxurious in cream sauce and the crab tian was quality, light, and mouth watering. I had the scallop gateau and could not get over the rich flavor combined with quality seafood. Also, love that it's a BYO. The waitress abruptly replied no and my table was left wondering if she ate a few while the dish was en route to the table? I would have given D'Floret five stars as the food is exceptional and the service was great...up until the last five minutes. At approximate 7:45 we were presented the dessert menu and by 7:50 our desserts and coffee were served. At 7:55 we were informed that we needed to hurry because the 8:00 seating had arrived and were waiting for their table. We managed to get out between 8:05 and 8:10. This ended what was a great evening until then, on a very sour note. I can bore you with multiple other ways this could've ended much better but I won't. I'll just mention that you should get a clear understanding of the time constraints when booking your reservation to avoid our experience. I will not be going here again. Picture this: Boyfriend and I come here on a Friday evening. We're a couple in our early 30's, everyone else eating there is older. Much older. We're also dressed casually, and in this very poorly decorated tiny restaurant are crowded couples in dressy casual. As soon as we walk in they ask for a reservation, but we have none. (Given, we should've called.) A waitress comes over and says, "Have you seen our menu?" and then precedes to **point to the prices**. We haven't even been seated yet. I said to not worry about it. They said they are cash only. I said no problem at all, I'd run to the ATM (a block away) after we ordered, leaving my boyfriend behind to keep the table. They sat us at a table that was no more than 2'x2'. They took away our wine glasses and poured us water. (We were a bit undressed, but really?) The folks behind the counter, 6 feet away, were whispering and pointing at us. We sat for 15 minutes. I told my boyfriend to order my $32 meal with his steak dinner while I went to the ATM since nobody took our order. I was back from the ATM within 10 minutes. I asked my boyfriend if he placed the order. He said no, they weren't even making eye contact with him. Finally, after another 10 minutes, the waitress (who was one of the ones snickering) came up to us and instead of asking what our order would be, asked us if we were going to order anything at all. I had enough. We walked out. I'm not sure if it was because we didn't book a reservation, or if it was our age, or if we weren't dressed well enough, but they were so rude it was choking. They hit the right note on everything - from the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed and comfortable. Beautiful fresh flowers on each table, gorgeous ceiling display, art from the owner on the walls. My teens said the tortellini was the best they had ever had. The crispy snapper was fantastic along with the ahi tuna and the only problem we had was deciding which dessert to order. Fortunately we accepted recommendations from the table next to us which were seconded by the staff. All in all a wonderful evening. A Lambertville Miss My wife and I really try to support local businesses, and eat out very often, so we were excited when we read about D'Floret. From the description, they seemed to be doing things right - create a small menu using fresh, local ingredients, prepared by an experienced chef. Sadly, D'Floret does not live up to the promise. The place has potential. Unfortunately, with the other fine options in the regions, potential isn't good enough. You have to be exceptional in some way in order to survive. Why didn't we like it? Let's start with the ridiculous curved silverware. There's a reason knives and forks aren't curved - when you use them, they spin in your hand. And when you set them on the table, they roll around like a Weeble. But I could deal with weird forks and knives if the food was excellent. We tried the pea soup, anchovy appetizer, salad, salmon, fettuccine and the profiteroles. Most of the food was ok, maybe a 6 or 7, but not worth having again. The pea soup was flavorful, but it was pea with ginger, so the ginger overwhelmed the subtle sweetness of the peas. The anchovies were tasty enough but they came with tomatoes that were hard - definitely not farm fresh. The salmon was attractive but overcooked - a mortal sin in a fine restaurant as far as I'm concerned (we asked for it medium-rare and were assured that was how it was done normally). The pasta was "tasty" albeit boring and swimming in cream sauce. I was hoping that the dessert might make up for a mediocre dinner. Unfortunately the profiteroles were almost inedible and tasted like refrigerator - absolutely unforgivable. How bad were they? The pastry was so tough that my wife had to use her knife to cut through it. When I used my fork to cut through the pastry, I literally had to push down with so much force that the fork hurt my hand. It was so stale that the fork tines could hardly penetrate the surface. Really, really bad. One last thing - during dinner, there was a man sitting with his laptop and paperwork spread out on a table next to us. All dinner, he was working away on his paperwork. Very odd, we though. He's acting like the owner, but no owner, especially a "celebrity chef" would do paperwork in the dining room, ignoring the kitchen. We just figured he was a very rude patron. When we arrived home, we looked up the restaurant and sure enough, that was the chef-owner. WTF? Really? We're paying to eat at an establishment that portrays itself and it's chef as world class but the chef can't bother himself to actually cook or taste the food? It's really a shame. Like I said, we love to support our fine local restaurants, but we predict a short life for D'Floret. It's simply not worth it. P.s. - So with all these complaints, why did I give it 3-stars? Because the food was generally decent or at least average. I finished my meal and I'm sure some people would enjoy their meals. I reserve 1 and 2-star reviews for places that are so bad that I wouldn't even eat the food. read more

Okay, I'm going to share the good and the "bad" with our experience on Saturday night. First, the food was very good to excellent. We started with the Sautéed Tian of Crab, Thyme, Aioli Sauce appetizer and really enjoyed it. We both had specials and one was lobster in a pastry (excellent) and the other was ribs (very good). Rate the food 4-5 stars. Bad - the restaurant space is small so you are at the mercy of other guests. When we arrived, there was an obnoxiously loud group of 6. Loud as in I could not hear my date speaking to me. Then, they left. Great, right? Oh no. Only to be replaced by a MORE obnoxiously loud group of 6. Again, I could not hear my date speaking to me. And, the table next to us felt the same way. So, the food and the service were very good (4-5 stars). Just not sure I would go back due to the other guests/atmosphere (1 star). A wide menu given it's tiny size typically includes multiple seafood, chicken, pasta, and beef options. Pricing is very reasonable: entrees $20-$30, appetizers $15. We enjoyed the mushroom soap with light truffles. We found the gnocchi to be a bit over salted. Entrees were all good. On a cold Saturday night in this otherwise rather empty tourist town, D'Floret was packed with locals who were happy, noisy, and friendly. After just spending 2 glorious weeks in France with friends, we were jonesing for good French food here. We were thrilled to see a new French Restaurant in Lambertville and made reservations for Friday night at 8. Unfortunately, getting a table was the only satisfying aspect of our visit here. The bread brought to the table was a strange oil-soaked toasted french-like wedge. Appetizers were OK, but I think a plate of green beans for $10 is a bit pricey. The goat cheese tart was good, but dusted with Parmesan cheese is a little strange. Escargot in puff pastry that was swimming in a heavy cream sauce. All-in-all the appetizers were edible, but the subtle flavors of the main ingredient were overpowered by a bizarre addition. Inventiveness is fine, but it seems that some flavors compete in these dishes. For dinner, the guys ordered the cassoulet and the girls ordered an entree-size risotto and entree-sized ravioli with black truffle. The cassoulet was good. The risotto was just ok and ravioli was again overpowered by a heavy cream sauce. The truffle taste somehow got through and saved the dish. All food was a bit cool, but we were sitting in the courtyard dining area and it is a rare treat to sit outside in October. Dessert was a meyer lemon meringue tart and espresso. My espresso was almost cold, I could barely drink it. And I drink espressos daily. The lemon filling was too runny and the meringue too soft. The crust was too hard. Not a good showing here and we had two of them. Then the bill came: over $200 for an OK meal without wine (it's BYOB) is a bit of a shocker. Not astronomical, but too much for just an OK meal, in my opinion. read more

A really great menu with some signature dishes, including a classic Veal Bolognese, seared Red Snapper and fresh sautéed Gnocchi with Mushrooms, Truffle and Sage. Everything I tried was very tasty however I felt the Gnocchi, which was very fresh, could have come a little heavier on the sauce. The indoor dining room is simple and overlooks the kitchen. The back patio is heated with both a lamp and an open fire "pit". The servers were well informed and the service was done right. I did feel as if it took a while to get the dishes, however when I finally saw the kitchen and was able to meet the chef, it made sense - a dedicated chef in a small but workable space.
