My boyfriend and I were passing by at about 10:15pm on Wednesday night. The front door to the shop was wide open, the music was pumpin , and the open sign was lit. It says unisex on the sign so I wanted to ask if they cut women's hair too. I entered the door way, smiled and said hi, then said 'can I ask you a quick question?' He stepped closer, trying to hear over the music, so I repeated myself. He responded 'No' then proceeded to usher us back out of the shop and lock the front door behind us. He kept watch for a bit, as if we were gonna do something. Seriously... I would not recommend anyone using the services here. There are 4 other barbershops within the same vacinity.

I have been going to another barber shop in JP for years, but recently haven't been satisfied with the attention I was being given. I decided to try MVP. I arrived right when they opened at 9:00am. There were no other customers in the shop. Perhaps this is partially the reason Bernardo was so attentive, but my feeling was that I would receive the same treatment even if it had been busy. I communicated what I like. He acknowledged and off we went. Along the way, he made a few minor suggestions, which I took him up on. End result: a super neat and clean haircut and shave (straight edge for those of you who appreciate a real shave). Haven't been this satisfied with a cut in quite some time. Needless to say, I'll be back. Highly recommend giving Bernardo a visit.

Unfortunately, he proceeded to cut my hair significantly shorter than we talked about (I asked for one inch off, they cut about 3 inches off). He also gave me a skin fade when I asked for a 2 on the sides. It was disappointing to have this happen when we talked about expectations in the beginning. More dialogue about expectations may be warranted for future patrons! The one saving grace was that the haircut was a good haircut in that the fade was pretty clean. It just wasn't what I asked for.

I've been coming to Shayne and Deep Blue for over four years and I've had a great experience each…read moreand every time.  In previous cities I've lived in, it's taken multiple attempts to find a barber I can trust and rely on but thanks to Shayne, my experience in Boston has been so much smoother.  Shayne also helped me figure out a new and much improved hair style and gave me a lot of great tips on different options and products that worked for my thick unruly Asian hair.  As a result, I've even learned a lot of new things about my own hair and how to better take care of it. The online scheduling has also been a huge convenience and even makes rescheduling easy.  Anytime rescheduling has been required, calls have been timely and the process has been easy. I also love the overall decor and feel of the place as well.   I not only would recommend Deep Blue, but actually already have.  And all my friends who've gone have had similarly great experiences! They've also done a great job of handling the pandemic.

While my first visit was not ideal (the barber was super rough while cutting my sides with the trimmer and I had a headache by the end of it), every visit since then has been significantly better. My latest visit was with a new barber named Jose, who was incredibly friendly and attentive to what I needed in a haircut. The only miss for me was when he started trimming into my beard because he misunderstood when I said I would trim it myself. So while I'm currently missing my beard, it'll grow back and I'll be clearer about that in the future. I'll definitely be back.
