They have a great selection of animal food, toys, treats, supply's. The staff is great. They treat my dog like a king when we walk on in. When I have my hands full of a leash, some toys and treats and I am trying to manage a bag of dog food, someone always comes right over and gives me a hand. My fiance bought a pair of moccasins last time we were in, and the staff also knew their footwear. They helped her dig through the sale rack to find a pair she liked. I myself have worked in another mom and pop store for 10+ years (and I know a thing or two about footwear), they did not give her a run around just to sell a pair of shoes, or try to up-sell her on a more expensive pair. They lady just dug in, and found what we were looking for. At the counter, they gave Oliver a treat while we waited to be rung up. They then help the door open and helped us carry our order out to the car. To recap, great customer service, knowledgeable staff on all products they sell, very very friendly people, great prices on dog food, small local business worth supporting. We are headed there now in fact.

Mari, the owner, pours her heart into every aspect of caring for the cats. She and her husband personally cover a huge portion of the expenses beyond donations, ensuring these cats have everything they need. The facility is a true haven--several spacious, window-filled rooms where the cats roam freely instead of being confined to cages. They're surrounded by cat trees, beds, toys, and plenty of litter boxes. Fresh food and water are provided daily, litter boxes and the entire space are cleaned every day, and any cat needing medication or vet care gets it promptly. All cats are fully vetted, spayed/neutered, and tested for diseases. Mari and every volunteer I've met are genuine cat lovers--kind, polite, and deeply dedicated to the well-being of each cat. If you're looking to adopt, donate, or volunteer, Roxie's is an exceptional place that truly gives cats a second chance at a happy, comfortable life. Highly recommend--5 stars aren't enough!

We did not know this for a couple weeks, until we went to get something out of storage. The mother abandoned the liter. We hand fed them KLM kitten formula for a couple of days in case she came back. They were doing ok until Tuesday at 5:15pm. One of the kittens was lethargic and visibly having an issue breathing. This was the closest vet to Forest City so we sped down there. We walked through the door at exactly 5:50pm with this poor little black kitten that was obviously in distress. The receptionist was unwelcoming, showed absolutely zero compassion and said "we cannot see the cat, we are closing in 10 minutes"!!! I absolutely could not believe the lack of compassion and care she had for this little kitten. She displayed ZERO EMPATHY!!! Rather than argue with her, we sped off the closest place from there. The poor kitten was breathing, but still struggling! We made it to Finch Hill Veterinary. They were closed but still in the parking lot getting into their cars. THEY ACTUALLY RE-OPENED TO HELP THIS LITTLE ONE!!!! RE-OPENED!!! Unfortunately the vet said the most humane thing to do would be to put her to eternal rest and she did just that. SHAME ON YOU AT CARBONDALE VETERINARY HOSPITAL!!! Isn't compassion a key ingredient to taking care of other people's animals. This was not even our personal pet and we cared enough to have the poor thing treated. I WILL NEVER FORGET "WE ARE CLOSING IN 10 MINUTES" AS I AM STANDING THERE WITH A BABY KITTEN IN RESPIRATORY DISTRESS!!!!

The owner of this facility is the most unprofessional and rudest person I have ever dealt with and…read morethis is why: First off I live in NJ and my mother recommended this kennel to me who had heard about it from a coworker. I figured since I was going to be out of state for vacation and would be going back to PA on the way home, it made sense to bring my 4 lb Maltese mix here. My Mom spoke to the owner and told her that my dog is a "barker" which is absolutely true but as an animal caretaker, I expected the woman to be experienced with handling a variety of issues especially when they are away from their home! The day I brought my dog I came prepared with her medical records, food for the week, her leash and harness and a toy for her to play with. The woman seemed pleasant enough but uneasy with the fact that I was coming from NJ to board my dog. Her kennel was almost at full capacity with about 10 dog kennels so I was comfortable leaving mine there. She made copies of all her medical records and took the things I brought for my dog saying she didn't need her leash. We left and the next day we went on vacation. At 9 am the next day I woke up and noticed that I received a missed call and voice mail from the kennel. It was the owner yelling in a very impatient and rude tone "She cannot stay here, she has to go!". Apparently my dog was not happy there and she had trouble bringing her back inside the dog kennel when she was in the run. The owner also called all of my emergency contacts (one of which is my mother-in-law) immediately after me and caused a massive panic. When I called her back I asked what happened and I got the same rude yelling and I could barely get a word in because she kept circling back to why my dog couldn't be there. At one point she even said "You're not listening to me"--I have never felt so patronized in my entire life by a so-called professional dog boarder. The woman even started yelling at my mother-in-law because she asked if there was any way that my dog could stay--it had only been one night and the owner didn't give my dog a chance to settle in. Once my mother-in-law went to get my dog the woman acted as if nothing happened and then told her "You're a mean woman," which was completely baffling to her. If you are truly capable of running a dog kennel, how about learning how to properly handle and care for a 4 lb. dog???
