It was only a few years after we bought our new (very old) house before we started having plumbing issues. Brittle old main drain and flow issues with what turned out to be most likely an original install cesspool older than my wife and I combined. We limped it along for a year or two with all too often expensive pumping before we started looking into replacement of the system. The job was big. It turned out to need the services of both the septic installer and a plumber since we ended up having to re-route and replace the main drain so the new system could be installed in an accessible location (the old is in our small backyard and heavy equipment couldn't get back there). We like on a hill on terraced property and we knew with all the trenching and excavation there was going to be a mess. We hired DC Crane of Bayville (Bob and Lynn Hotine and family) on a recommendation from our cesspool service company and it was the right choice. DC is a family run business and they treat you like their own. They do the work like it was being done on their own property, install what you need and don't sell you what you don't. Bob spent a lot of time explaining everything to my wife who had plenty of questions. They came on the agreed date and everything was done on schedule. They explained the permits you need (and have to pay for yourself) but handled getting them all. The excavation caused a lot of damage to the hill we're on - there's no way around it having to move heavy equipment up to do the work - but the work was done great, on-time and they didn't leave us with a mess to clean up. They spent considerable time when all was done, hooked up and working to grading, backfilling and top soiling the property again. It was ready for new grass to go down. Settling is to be expected but a year and a half later and it's been minimal if at all. Essentially removing and replacing the entire waste plumbing and storage system in your house is a huge job. Rude! Unprofessional !! Disrespectful!! After our service call, my wife received an extremely rude message from the receptionist, calling her and myself a liar. Then hung up like a child...... We hired this company for a simple septic pump. They quoted a flat fee of $650. Made no mention of any other charges. When the man came to collect payment, he demanded only cash and asked for $750. When I mentioned I was quoted $650 " he said yeah, my wife doesn't know anything". He explained there are other charges that Come along with digging, and mixing, and other things that they may/will do. I mentioned very respectfully that its fine but noted it would be beneficial if in the future to explain these detail to clearly set expectations. My wife then receives a rude call from receptionist/his wife, calling us liars, raising her voice, being extremely unprofessional and then hanging up the phone on my wife. I would never recommend this family to do any business not because of ability, but because of the rude and disrespectful nature of this, "wife"/receptionist. read more

They were all extremely organized and professional! The owner (their dad) was very friendly! My 2 year old daughter even got a kick watching them work from a window ! I had a contract with DC Crane two months in advance to fill in old cesspool and install a new one. This was necessary so that another contractor could perform some construction work on my property. This was scheduled for the week of 5/17, but when I called Kerry (DC Crane) a couple of weeks prior to the job, to inform them of the exact date we needed the work done when the inspector will be available, she was very rude and said they were not sure if they can do the job, and hung up the phone on me. I sent her an email telling her that her husband had told me to inform them of the exact date a few days in advance. Then on 5/5, she sent me a text message telling me that they will be there in the 18th. Then on 5/6, I got an email from her stating that after careful consideration and review they will not be doing the job at all. What kind of company is this? So irresponsible! This situation had me scramble for another cesspool company last minute. The happy ending to this story is that I got Truckin' Corporation to do the job and they were punctual and very professional! We woke up on a recent Sunday morning to a 12ft diameter sink hole in our front lawn. I found the business card from DC Crane I had gotten when they were working for several of my neighbors over the years. I called the cell # listed and immediately got Bob on the phone. He said "no problem" and that he would be there that afternoon to fence the area off and give us an estimate. By Tuesday afternoon, the old septic system had been pumped out, removed and replaced with a new system. They went further and dug out the feeder pipe all the way to the foundation and replaced it. You can imagine the mess including shrubs and gardens dug up and dirt everywhere. When they were done Bob and his boys had replaced everything back to its original conditions with the road, and walkways clean and gardens back.
