Animal Kingdom - Blames homeless for issues but this owner can't take care of own property and store.

She offered to test my water and explained what was happening. She also gave me beneficial bacteria water, which instantly helped my fish tank. They were also incredibly welcoming to my daughter, who has autism, and allowed her to spend time looking at the animals. She absolutely loves them. I will only be returning to this store for any of my animal needs. All of the other stores in Pueblo offered little to no help, but this store truly went above and beyond.

The young man who greeted me and my spouse was extremely kind and happy to help us. Who I'm assuming was the owner was nice at first. After a misunderstanding/miscommunication she didn't miss a beat to let down her customer service mask. But hey, I get it. We're all human. She definitely could've at least waited to jump down his throat for the mistake though. Some animals had decent habitats. Some didn't. Most of the beta fish are in vases, and the one in the smallest vase had a plant it was on the brink of dying under. I wasn't super happy all around, but brownie points for trying I suppose. Do your OWN research before going and selecting / saving a pet, as animals like their hedgehog need a bit more love than it's currently receiving.

The store for a small town is a good way to know others and find good deals. They have mostly what their sister company Ace has including paint and random household goodies. I've never had a problem here, and when you have that confused look, help is there. Recommended? Yep. I have no complaints about the place and will always check there first.

Now an Ace Hardware after TrueValue's Corp. bankruptcy…read more When a TrueValue, I tried to give them business before going to Ace in Canon, despite a smaller inventory. I prefer businesses local business to my Penrose home. I have spent much since locating to Penrose 5 years ago. With the Ace transition, I had hopes to do more spending here. However, not honoring a $5 Bday and $5 Ace rewards cards because it was based on Canon purchases just cost the store thousands in purchases from me. I could and would have been willing to change my home store, but was never given the option. Frankly, the travel time is so close, Ill just go to Knecht Ace in Canon. Apparently, customer loyalty means nothing. Folks at Knecht have always been nice to me, so they will get the bixlz as I continue my house remodel.... a kitchen, bathroom, and a shed rebuild. Canon can supply the plumbing, screws, nails, lumber, fixtures, tools, blades, bits, hoses, wiring, etc. Treasure that $10 saved. Invest it wisely!

Country Kennels - Dolly one of my companions

Horrible experience! Our dog ended up sick and abused…read more We wanted to take the Royal Gorge train last Thursday and called Country Kennels. I spoke to the owner, who said she would be out of town, and her daughter would be the one doing intake and caring for our dog. She seemed great on the phone. We were a little put off by the state of the building, but we left our ten pound Yorkiepoo with the seemingly nice daughter. She said he would mostly be staying in the cat room since he was little and there were no cats staying with them. We went and had a fantastic time on the train, and the daughter walked up exactly at the arranged pick up time. Then it got weird. She said we would have to come call him because he was refusing to come out of the cage. My partner went in there, and he was cowering in the back, and she had to drag him out. We have never seen him act like that. We noticed right away that his face was covered in poop, like someone had shoved his face in a pile. We have never seen him intentionally do something like that in the three years we've had him. When we cleaned him up, we also noticed his face was scratched. When my partner asked what happened, the daughter shrugged and said he got dirty. We hightailed it out of there and begged the pet store in town to let us use their grooming station. We had planned to drive back to Denver and had dinner plans with family that we had to put off. Our clothes and car were covered in poop, and he cowered in the seat shaking the whole ride. He then had diarrhea all over our van and the hotel room that night, and we spent the night cleaning out the car in the Walmart parking lot with a new carpet cleaner. He was sick for a few days after and it took him a few days to calm down and act like himself. I hope other pets have been treated more kindly and not as negligently as ours. It put a huge damper on our trip seeing our fur baby so sad. Skip this place. They shouldn't have a kennel license.

Voila -- thanks to a referral from Barb at the pet shop on Main Street, we found Country Kennels. Their drop off hours are 9-10A during the week and pick up from 4-5, and Sunday by arrangement. Our River Runners raft trip was great and our dogs had a fun, cool place to play. Easy to find on Four Mile Parkway and the owners were as nice as could be. It was $28 for our big lab and pug together. ARF.

Due to their limited hours 11-4, I have had a hard time picking her up due to working in the springs. I had called and spoke with someone there, regarding my difficulties and asked to schedule something outside of these hours. Which they would not help with. I was able to find time today to go pick the dog up, when I got there they had told me I was past the 5 day pick up (which includes the days they are closed) and they had taken possession of the dog, and they were not willing to adopt her back out to me. With this being said, they would not give me my dog back regardless of me willing to pay all of their fees. 1 had my 5 year old son with me who had to witness them being so cruel as too telling me they weren't willing to adopt her back to me since they have discretion over who they choose to adopt. If this shelter is so overcapacity, and needs donations and help. Wouldn't it be better for the shelter, the dogs well being, and the emotional damage for the family to give the dog back? My whole family is devastated, and I am sure my dog is missing us as well
