Country Kennels - Dolly one of my companions

    Country Kennels

Horrible experience! Our dog ended up sick and abused…read more We wanted to take the Royal Gorge train last Thursday and called Country Kennels. I spoke to the owner, who said she would be out of town, and her daughter would be the one doing intake and caring for our dog. She seemed great on the phone. We were a little put off by the state of the building, but we left our ten pound Yorkiepoo with the seemingly nice daughter. She said he would mostly be staying in the cat room since he was little and there were no cats staying with them. We went and had a fantastic time on the train, and the daughter walked up exactly at the arranged pick up time. Then it got weird. She said we would have to come call him because he was refusing to come out of the cage. My partner went in there, and he was cowering in the back, and she had to drag him out. We have never seen him act like that. We noticed right away that his face was covered in poop, like someone had shoved his face in a pile. We have never seen him intentionally do something like that in the three years we've had him. When we cleaned him up, we also noticed his face was scratched. When my partner asked what happened, the daughter shrugged and said he got dirty. We hightailed it out of there and begged the pet store in town to let us use their grooming station. We had planned to drive back to Denver and had dinner plans with family that we had to put off. Our clothes and car were covered in poop, and he cowered in the seat shaking the whole ride. He then had diarrhea all over our van and the hotel room that night, and we spent the night cleaning out the car in the Walmart parking lot with a new carpet cleaner. He was sick for a few days after and it took him a few days to calm down and act like himself. I hope other pets have been treated more kindly and not as negligently as ours. It put a huge damper on our trip seeing our fur baby so sad. Skip this place. They shouldn't have a kennel license.

Voila -- thanks to a referral from Barb at the pet shop on Main Street, we found Country Kennels. Their drop off hours are 9-10A during the week and pick up from 4-5, and Sunday by arrangement. Our River Runners raft trip was great and our dogs had a fun, cool place to play. Easy to find on Four Mile Parkway and the owners were as nice as could be. It was $28 for our big lab and pug together. ARF.

The individuals in this business do not know how to connect with cats. One of my cats was so…read moretraumatized by the lack of understanding and neglect that he started hiding from people who came into the house after one pet sitting experience. I have had to hire a behavior trainer to help him overcome his fears of people coming into our home. Promises were not kept and notes are not taken. The individuals may have good intentions although there is a disconnect and lack of care that is alarming.

Just wanted to post a warning to everyone since the owner of the Pet Care business is completely…read moreblowing us off after we filed a complaint. We have used their services multiple times and were always happy with the care our pets received. However, this time we were gone for between one and two weeks due to a family emergency. I made sure to buy enough hay and food for all of the animals. When we were returned, the hay level was almost exactly at the same level it was before we left, making it immediately obvious the animals were not being given hay (2 guinea pigs and a rabbit). The rabbits food was at exactly the same level it was before and the kitten and guinea pigs were both out of water. We have a kitten as well who has severe separation anxiety and we told the sitter this and that they needed to make sure they took time to play with the kitten (the previous sitters with this service took time to play with the kitten and we often got really great pictures of the kitten.) No pictures at all and when we returned the kitten SCREAMED for almost 2 hours and was very distressed. Again, immediately obvious that she was blatantly ignored for the entire time we were gone. The sitters are supposed to fill out "pet logs" each time they are here. Some nights this was not even being done until the next morning when I would reach out to the owner of the business to inquire where it was. We also have a camera and noticed some days it would never detect any motion at all, suggesting there were days the sitter did not even enter the home to care for the pets. We reached out to the owner immediately with the concerns. He told us he'd "look into it" and would call us back. He never did, and instead charged our card and assessed a late fee. Afterwards, I reached out to the owner once again and did not get a response. What started as a complaint against a specific sitter has now grown with utter disgust at how this owner has fielded a complaint. Charging our card and hoping we'll go away is not how you "look into" issues. I am grateful that none of our pets were dead when we came home, but I think if we'd been gone much longer they would have been. Stay away from this pet care company. Instead of responding to us in any capacity, the business owner decided to take to my negative Google Review and Gaslight me via an owner response claiming "we would have let the sitter go if you reached out". We did. Multiple times. And that isn't the point. You charged our card AGAIN after everything happened. Pathetic. Do better.
