I told them how much higher they were than their compeitor and haggled a bit on the price. He said he'd talk to his boss and call me back. No call back, so I called and said I'll pay their price. I decided it was worth the extra money to get it done same day. I show up 5 min early and I'm the only person in the lobby. No one says a word to me or even looks at me. After a couple min, I say something to the guy in the lobby so he knows I'm the guy there for the appt (he already knew). I sit there for another 15 min while he makes phone calls and carries on with business like there isn't someone there for an appt. Needless to say, after 20 min of sitting there, I left as it was obvious they were doing me this way on purpose. If you didn't want my business say so. Having me waste an hour of my afternoon was pretty uncool. Felt like I was in JR High all over again. If you want to save yourself an experience like this and a lot of money, take your business to Grain Valley Muffler. Side note: I tried to talk myself out of leaving this review. Couldn't do it. You don't treat customers this way. I'll match your pettiness.

I needed to get my car inspected so I could renew my tags, and I also had a few other concerns. This was in mid-April. They gave me a whole list of things that needed to be done in order to pass the inspection. They said everything was urgent and could not get it fixed a little at a time cool. I approved the work. One of the things they said I needed was new front brake pads, rotors, and calipers, even though they noted it looked like a had new brake pads, which was true. Okay, whatever. That alone was almost $900. A few weeks later, the first week of May, I'm out with my daughter, and I can not stop my car, brakes all the way down to the ground! Thankfully, I was not going fast, and there were no cars around. I ended up in someone's yard in a small ditch, and thankfully, the homeowners were nice. They were in their yard already. I called the tow truck company to get towed. I told the driver how I had just got new brakes. The driver told me that Laurel Heights probably did not bleed the brakes properly, and air got into the brake line, and from the amount of brake dust on my rims, the brake pads were probably cheap. I called Laurel Heights, and they wanted me to bring the car to them, but my neighbor got them to come get the car from my house while I was at work. I saw on my camera that they drove the car, which I do not understand how. There was some conversation between my neighbor and Laurel Heights. In the end, Laurel Heights said I just needed a hose replaced. They replaced it and brought my car back. I get off work, get my key from my neighbor, and drive the car. They breaks are still going all the way to the floor. It is taking a really long time for the car to stop. Im thinking, let me drive it around the block to maybe get the fluids flowing. I drove straight through the stop sign because the car was still not braking properly. I ended up calling another shop. Had the car towed. $150. Guess what? The other car shop had to flush out the brake line and re-bleed the brakes....which was almost another $400 for them to look at and properly fix the brakes. My car has not been right since I took it to Laurel Heights. It drove better before they did all that work. That could have been a very bad/ tragic situation for me and my daughter!!!!! I will never take my car here again. I paid them, and we could have lost our lives or hurt someone else from the faulty brake job.

No one ever called back. One of the Cardinal sins in business, is to be late in returning calls to customers, or to never even take the time to return calls, and or messages. I figured they don't want the business, or need it enough to show enough courtesy to at least call back, so I decided to just find another garage for the repairs. It's a shame, because I always try to do business in my neighborhood and as close to the surrounding community as possible.

When the Macek family started this business some six or seven decades ago, it was a local mechanic shop that fixed cars for the neighborhood. One of my churchgoing friends used to tell me that when she went to her sunrise service weekday mornings, it was good to see her electrician, her plumber, and her mechanic all there with her every day. The mechanic she mentioned, was of course, the owner of this shop at that time. I took my car in to this shop for the first time around the year 2007, and I got exceptional service back then. Everything that the shop did was fixed completely, and specialty items, like welding mufflers that the shop didn't do had good recommendations for competent and economical neighborhood experts. It's no wonder that when you went in to the parking lot to make an appointment or drop off your car, you often had to park a few blocks away & walk in--the parking lot was almost always overflowing. The shop had built an impeccable reputation for great service. I have since moved to the east side of town and for a while lost touch with the Maceks and this shop. So a few months ago when my thirty-five-year-old Chevy was having problems, I took it into my local mechanic, who shook his head and told me he really didn't care to even try to fix it. It was an old car that had too many problems and he really didn't think it was worth his trouble -- or mine, so he recommended that I scrap it and buy a new one. I wasn't ready to give up on my old car because it still got great mileage and aside from the recent problems, it had been fairly reliable. I looked up the website for this shop just because I remembered how good they were all those years ago and found it had changed hands. Somehow I had a feeling that the family that owned the old shop wouldn't just sell it to just anyone, but to someone that would be honest in their service. I was very pleasantly surprised, because this new crew went above and beyond the call of duty when they diagnosed and fixed my car. First of all, they gave me the complete story of my car's problems. It turns out my other mechanic had simplified things a bit for brevity and the problems were little bit trickier than I was led to believe. Secondly, they were able to lay out a repair plan and told me what they planned to replace and what kind of labor needed to be done before they began. Everything was written out before they started, so there was no question about any detail. They meant to fix the car, period. Finally they set about fixing the car. They replaced parts and fluids, they made adjustments, and they tested everything when they were done. The guarantee they give is something you can take to the bank, because, at least in my case, they didn't stop until the car was right. It wasn't just fixed, the new parts engaged correctly, ran evenly and disengaged smoothly. I couldn't be happier, especially since this was a difficult repair. I'm convinced that the current owners of this shop are very worthy heirs of the Macek legacy because they were able to ferret out and fix problems that other mechanics wouldn't touch. I'd have to say -- if you need your car fixed you might want to hurry up and get your car down to them. Word is getting out that these guys are good and their parking lot is filling up!
