The interaction felt dismissive and insulting, especially for a first-time customer simply asking for an estimate. Professionalism and respect matter just as much as technical skill. Unfortunately, that was lacking here.

I needed to get my car inspected so I could renew my tags, and I also had a few other concerns. This was in mid-April. They gave me a whole list of things that needed to be done in order to pass the inspection. They said everything was urgent and could not get it fixed a little at a time cool. I approved the work. One of the things they said I needed was new front brake pads, rotors, and calipers, even though they noted it looked like a had new brake pads, which was true. Okay, whatever. That alone was almost $900. A few weeks later, the first week of May, I'm out with my daughter, and I can not stop my car, brakes all the way down to the ground! Thankfully, I was not going fast, and there were no cars around. I ended up in someone's yard in a small ditch, and thankfully, the homeowners were nice. They were in their yard already. I called the tow truck company to get towed. I told the driver how I had just got new brakes. The driver told me that Laurel Heights probably did not bleed the brakes properly, and air got into the brake line, and from the amount of brake dust on my rims, the brake pads were probably cheap. I called Laurel Heights, and they wanted me to bring the car to them, but my neighbor got them to come get the car from my house while I was at work. I saw on my camera that they drove the car, which I do not understand how. There was some conversation between my neighbor and Laurel Heights. In the end, Laurel Heights said I just needed a hose replaced. They replaced it and brought my car back. I get off work, get my key from my neighbor, and drive the car. They breaks are still going all the way to the floor. It is taking a really long time for the car to stop. Im thinking, let me drive it around the block to maybe get the fluids flowing. I drove straight through the stop sign because the car was still not braking properly. I ended up calling another shop. Had the car towed. $150. Guess what? The other car shop had to flush out the brake line and re-bleed the brakes....which was almost another $400 for them to look at and properly fix the brakes. My car has not been right since I took it to Laurel Heights. It drove better before they did all that work. That could have been a very bad/ tragic situation for me and my daughter!!!!! I will never take my car here again. I paid them, and we could have lost our lives or hurt someone else from the faulty brake job.

I figured they don't want the business, or need it enough to show enough courtesy to at least call back, so I decided to just find another garage for the repairs. It's a shame, because I always try to do business in my neighborhood and as close to the surrounding community as possible.

I paid about $770 for two break pads, two rotors that didn't need to be replaced but was forced into because they refused to replace break pads if I didn't because "they don't service break pads alone", and one caliper to be replaced. The caliper itself cost $350 for them to provide and put a "newly refurbished caliper" on my car. I trusted that they would do the work they charged me for only to realize two days later, they had put the exact same caliper that was already on my car back on my car. When I took my car back in when I got the time to do so, I was told that the caliper got rusty due to the weather two days after they put a brand new one on and it was my fault. A brand new caliper doesn't get rusty and need to be replaced two days after being put on. My other calipers that's been on my car for YEARS isn't rusty nor in bad shape or in need of immediate repair like the "newly refurbished caliper" they put on my car. When I asked if they could replace it since I had a warranty and realized it was the exact same caliper that was already on my car or at minimum in the exact same condition, they refused because they claimed it was my fault, the fault of other unrelated work that needs to be done on my car that they want money for, and the hot weather's fault that it needed to be replaced after only two days of their work. The five stars I gave were well earned. This particular shop carries on a legacy that goes all the…read moreway back to nearly the founding of the city of Merriam itself. When the Macek family started this business some six or seven decades ago, it was a local mechanic shop that fixed cars for the neighborhood. One of my churchgoing friends used to tell me that when she went to her sunrise service weekday mornings, it was good to see her electrician, her plumber, and her mechanic all there with her every day. The mechanic she mentioned, was of course, the owner of this shop at that time. I took my car in to this shop for the first time around the year 2007, and I got exceptional service back then. Everything that the shop did was fixed completely, and specialty items, like welding mufflers that the shop didn't do had good recommendations for competent and economical neighborhood experts. It's no wonder that when you went in to the parking lot to make an appointment or drop off your car, you often had to park a few blocks away & walk in--the parking lot was almost always overflowing. The shop had built an impeccable reputation for great service. I have since moved to the east side of town and for a while lost touch with the Maceks and this shop. So a few months ago when my thirty-five-year-old Chevy was having problems, I took it into my local mechanic, who shook his head and told me he really didn't care to even try to fix it. It was an old car that had too many problems and he really didn't think it was worth his trouble -- or mine, so he recommended that I scrap it and buy a new one. I wasn't ready to give up on my old car because it still got great mileage and aside from the recent problems, it had been fairly reliable. I looked up the website for this shop just because I remembered how good they were all those years ago and found it had changed hands. Somehow I had a feeling that the family that owned the old shop wouldn't just sell it to just anyone, but to someone that would be honest in their service. I was very pleasantly surprised, because this new crew went above and beyond the call of duty when they diagnosed and fixed my car. First of all, they gave me the complete story of my car's problems. It turns out my other mechanic had simplified things a bit for brevity and the problems were little bit trickier than I was led to believe. Secondly, they were able to lay out a repair plan and told me what they planned to replace and what kind of labor needed to be done before they began. Everything was written out before they started, so there was no question about any detail. They meant to fix the car, period. Finally they set about fixing the car. They replaced parts and fluids, they made adjustments, and they tested everything when they were done. The guarantee they give is something you can take to the bank, because, at least in my case, they didn't stop until the car was right. It wasn't just fixed, the new parts engaged correctly, ran evenly and disengaged smoothly. I couldn't be happier, especially since this was a difficult repair. I'm convinced that the current owners of this shop are very worthy heirs of the Macek legacy because they were able to ferret out and fix problems that other mechanics wouldn't touch. I'd have to say -- if you need your car fixed you might want to hurry up and get your car down to them. Word is getting out that these guys are good and their parking lot is filling up!
