Their menu's offer delicious combinations of fillings so there is usually something that suits everyone's taste. The food is all of a healthy nature and even their burgers are great quality. I ordered a burger (freshly cooked in a couple of minutes) with raw onions and mayonnaise for just £2 which was served in a large plain white bun; that definitely filled me and I would go back again whenever I'm in need of a convenient lunch. Since they boast such a wide variety of ingredients such as various pre-cooked meats, sliced salads and other condiments, the choice is really yours. In addition, they sell jacket potatoes which sound mouth-watering and tempting (especially on a cold day)! Clarke's Richmond Deli is much better than your average sandwich bar. Plus, the lovely aromas that are emitted make you want to go even more.

If that could be a motto or brand slogan for a deli - sorry butty shop! - then that might be a good one for Clarke's. It seems to denegrate them some what but this succint description of a fine sandwich emporium is meant entirely in the best possible way. There seems to be little mucking about with things like rocket - which I hate, it is horrible no matter how many chefs and foodies use it these days, it's a weed! - Clarke's serve good, some might say traditional sandwiches, in a straightforward manner like roast beef, ham - just ham nowt fancy done to it - and various chickens - coronation and tikka basically - and all at very cheap prices - usually below £3 - for a good size butty.

Crust is a decent enough sandwich bar and delicatessen virtually next door to its main competitor…read moreButlers Bakery. Unlike Butlers though, Crust specialises less in baked goods and more in sandwiches and other café related dishes, as well as offering the other usual refreshments like coffee, tea and soft drinks. The bread they use there tastes fresh and provides a great base for the various fillings they offer there that are all made fresh daily and are generously shoved into your sandwich. The prices for a small local shop like this are reasonable enough and offer a similarly good value for money as Butlers and its location just around the corner from Maghull train station makes it a useful place to grab a sandwich before/after getting a train. There is a small area to dine inside but I generally find its better to take away unless you desperately want to sit in with your purchases.

It's the kind of place you could sit and read a book while munching a sandwich and enjoying a cup of tea while surreptitiously spying on the locals. (Something I truly enjoy!) They food is tasty, if semi plain, but that's what you generally get in a small café/sandwich shop. It's certainly nicer than a mere packaged sandwich from a grocery store. Prices are good and the staff are very friendly and polite.

Where do I start with this one? The Crazy is strong here…read more I've tried this place twice with interesting results both times. The 1st attempt was an over the counter order. Should have been easy, however the serving ladys attention was more focased on ranting to me about a vendetta she was plotting against a neighbouring business than making my sandwich. So much so when I got home the sandwich was totally different to what I paid for. The 2nd attempt, I opted for delivery, to avoid the crazyness of her fasination with the neighbour. This time the food was mostly correct however the man driving the delivery van was smelt of Alcohol and was already clearly drunk at 1pm. Coronation rd, more like Coronation Street.

Well, if you do, upon nearing the shop you will quickly realise Spoilt For Choice is a sandwich shop. 'And how will I be able to tell?', I hear you ask. Well, it might be something to do with the sign saying 'Quality Sandwich Shop'. Or the massive SANDWICHES written on both windows, just in case you didn't get it already - subtle, they are not. Luckily, the SANDWICHES in question are very well made, using the freshest bread available and fillings that taste delicious and homemade whilst being generously shovelled into each sandwich. Their prices are fairly reasonable and competitive and the staff there seem happy and friendly, offering a prompt and efficient service with a smile. I'd like to say that little businesses like this are rivalling Subway in popularity but, despite their quality, I doubt they are.

Satterthwaites was founded one hundred years ago in Liverpool, it has remained a Liverpool based store but popularity has encouraged growth in the area and I think there are around six further stores, four in the Crosby/ Waterloo area. Satterthwaites are extremely popular in the area and well known amongst non-locals too! The food is extremely good, and of course the type of food sold- stodgy savouries: pies; pasties; sausage rolls, and cakes- is irresitable and undeniably popular generally, however I think the popularity of this store is through the unmistakeable element of tradition Satterthwaites has managed to preserve; the cakes are classics: bavarian slices, carrot cakes, meringues, while the old fashioned uniforms are unique to Satterthwaites: hair nets and hats are worn as well as gloves which is nice to see. The staff are always very sociable and friendly and the food is really satisfying: tasty, filling, and reasonably priced. Satterthwaites offer catering services also: finger buffets, cake selections and even fruit platters. This is a popular caterers in the area hired for weddings and all sorts of parties.
