Do you get too busy and tired to cook? Does packing in fresh veg become a strain? Are you sick of getting a take away, because at the end of the day it's easier than cooking? Have you lost the will to find new recipes to learn? Here's the secret: visit Cook. Basically, they're like the microwaveable meal kings. And, that sounds like a slight -but it's not. What: Home cooked, freshly frozen, deliciously healthy, wonderfully diverse meals. Frozen in a little microwavable/oven cook tray for you to bob in and eat. Honestly, I was so overly impressed with what they had to offer. The chap in the shop was, for starters, an absolute star. He introduced me to the ideals behind the franchise, and where it came from, talked me through all of the products on offer and we basically ended up having a lovely natter. There are huge packed fridges, filled to the brim with delicious meals, in a range of sizes and cuisines. Everything from Thai red curry, to chilli con carne, to Indian dishes and some other items that were so exotic I've forgotten what they're even called. It really is a place of solution, especially if you're often tired and end up relying on substandard ready meals. They've also a range of desserts, drinks and other such edibles to browse, so I ended up grabbing a Thai curry, chilli and banoffee pie. I've had the chilli and it was just epic. The flavours were fantastic, and went perfectly with the veggie rice, and all for 5 minutes of microwave time. Of course, the washing up was cut down dramatically, so I almost felt a little lost after eating as there was so little to do. The prices are reasonable, perhaps not for a complete eating solution compared to home cooking, but certainly for when you're in a pinch and don't want to eat crud baked in oil, that's been greased up a little. Basically, I've not known such excellent customer service from the wonderful chap in the shop, and never known anything that I've put in a microwave taste edible, let alone that gourmet. You really should get down there and see what's cookin'. And on that note, I'm off to eat my dessert. Sucks to be you - you don't have Banoffee goodness!

I tried a 7 inch goats cheese and veg small pizza which was a great starter along with wedges and wings. The BBQ wings were tastier than those at a few specialised Wing places in Manchester! Delivery is free of charge within a five mile radius, or you can visit the shop. The 'shop' is a 'no-frills' affair, a double garage at the rear of the Patitucci family home. So you can rest assured that you are not paying through the nose for expensive premises - no, sir! Their produce is of four grades - Regular, Local, Organic and Paolo's. 'Paolo's' denotes produce grown in the greenhouses and market gardens to the rear of the garage - as far as I know, I would consider it a sort of 'uncertified organic' as my information is that Paolo does not use chemical pesticides, etc. Paolo is the grandfather of the family, who moved from southern Italy to Lancashire in 1955, and is as devoted a market gardener as you could hope to find. They also stock a nice selection of organic delicatessen items, plus homemade jams, etc. The business side of things is now run by Paolo's son Vince, who is another fantastic gentleman. From what I've seen of him, I would say Vince is a bit of a dude. Such as - when it was still glass milk bottles - carrying two crates of milk in each hand. Without braggadocio. Lastly, they are totally fair and honest, which is a boon when buying fresh produce.

I am lucky enough to work just across the road from this delightful establishment and spend my hard-earned tips in there (far too) regularly. Their food is preposterously tasty; it's all freshly made and prepared as you order, they have a great selection of curries, pizzas, burgers, and sides, and if you step through their door more than once (though I have found myself battling with that door on occasion, it is quite the cantankerous entrance) they great you with a friendly smile and "hello again!" as though you've been eating there for years. Being a vegetarian I can only vouch for their veggie options, but they are tasty enough to have me going back there almost every other shift. As a self-confessed massive fan of chips and cheese, I find myself longing for Chilli's version more than any other. There is nothing spectacularly different about the chips or the cheese (they are just standard fries with mozzarella from what I can work out), but they are damn tasty. On a particularly lazy week recently where I simply could not be bothered to prepare a big one-pot dinner to take to work for each shift, I think I may have consumed Chilli's cheesy chips three times.... Considering I'm not normally a big take-away girl, that's good work, Chilli's! My carnivorous colleagues wax lyrical about the karahis and kebabs on offer for those who partake in meat-eating and I honest to goodness cannot remember the last shift when at least one person didn't look naughtily at the rest of us and ask the fateful question that causes us all to reach deep into our pockets: "Does anyone want anything from Chilli's?!". As if feeding us poor and hungry bar staff on our arduous club night shifts week in, week out wasn't enough reason for me to be more than a little bit in love with this place, the portions and prices are fantastic. The karahis are all priced between £4.90 and £5.50 and are huge! The pizzas are the tastiest I've had from anywhere, beating the living tastebuds out of Pizza Hut and Dominos, and as you may have picked up, I am quite the fan of their cheesy chips. They also have fabulous meal deals on offer at all times, including my personal favourite; they serve a personal pizza (7") with two toppings of your choice (pineapple and jalapeños tends to be my go-to combo) with chips and your choice of drink for £3.50. That winning taste-fest has seen me through many a long and difficult sold-out club night. I would love to give this haven of naughty foods a five star review but I have never had anything delivered from them, what with work being in such close proximity, so I am unsure if the impeccable service I am accustomed to transfers to this aspect of their business and I have unfortunately seen some not-so-positive reviews of their delivery on the tinterwebs. Although having said that, these negative reviews are not the majority by any means. As far as my experience goes, check Chilli's the hell out if you are on a night out in the Northern Quarter and get a bit peckish. They are open 7 days a week. Go on, treat yourself. But be warned, you may form a similar addiction to that of my colleagues and I. It's just so tasty!!
