Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? While my server at The Yiros Shop seemed to be no older than sixteen, he was very polite and efficient, and explained my options to me in a way that directed me towards some good options. I was disappointed that they didn't accept American Express, but I'm finding that's pretty common in Australia. Star. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? $15.50 AUD got me a pretty good sized mixed meat yiro, which was a pretty good deal even though, as you'll see, they skimped on the meat a bit. Star. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? I'll start off by saying that I liked the selection of meats and peripherals at The Yiros Shop, and it was clear that these were some fresh ingredients. Having said that, I felt a bit robbed of those fresh looking meats, and instead my mixed meat yiro was packed with french fries, tahini sauce, and vegetables with a notable lack of meats. That's not uncommon I suppose, but something to keep an eye on. Single Star. Star 5: Would you be excited to go back? The Yiros Shop was good, but there are so many great kebab or comparable options in town that I can't recommend The Yiros Shop with any sort of enthusiasm. No Star.

I'll be honest, I only recently just found out the name of this place, yet I have been there…read morecountless times. "How can an individual patron a store regularly yet not know it's name" I hear you fret. The answer: alcohol. Shah Kebab (not "that kebab place near to bus stop in The Valley") is the perfect final destination after a night out. You booze hounds out there know that the ideal remedy for an impending hangover is to buy a kebab and munch it down as quick as you can. I don't know how it works, but it just does. I imagine it has something to do with the speed of the consumption, but I am no Einstein. The Shah Kebab also offers pizza and chips, amongst other greasy delights. For some reason I didn't enjoy the chips I ate there once, I think they were cold or stale or something, but I don't remember clearly. All I remember was the feeling of betrayal and loss, mixed in with the taste of undercooked potato. My advice, stick to the kebab or the pizza. The Shah Kebab is open pretty much 24 hours, but in my opinion, if you're still out a 6 am you should use that money to catch a taxi home immediately before the sun has fully risen. At the end of the day the Shah Kebab isn't that bad but I'm not sure if I'd bother eating there sober.

It is topped with all sorts of things I love like spinach, feta cheese, black olives and fresh herbs... mmm... I have heard that Shah is pretty famous for it's kebabs (especially with the Fri/Sat late night drunken patrons) but I had heard no reports about it's pizza. So last Wednesday night on my way home from a late night Valley meeting I picked one up. Now I consider myself a bit of a pizza connoisseur (having worked in a pizza shop for over a year) and honestly, for $15 this is a pretty damn good pizza. I can only speak for the Vegetarian variety - however I am sure the rest are on par. So, next time you are in the valley thinking about how good that kebab will be - maybe consider sharing a pizza instead (your friends will thank you for it)!

My god-mother's friend suggested King Ahiram. The place is just a take-out place with an adjoining room with tables and chairs where you can have a "sit-down" meal. So we ended up ordering a selection of items. I don't know. I am used to going to Little Arabia for my middle eastern food here in southern California and my favorite place in Brisbane is Nono's and omg.... the food here was kinda on the dismal side. I felt really bad that my parents and god-parents had to sit through a different cuisine which I've been touting as so fabulously delicious only to be faced with really sub-par Mediterranean food. We had falafels, hummus, babaghanoush, kebabs, these crescent pastry things which looked like empanadas -- everything was mediocre at best. The meat was dry, the dips needed more olive oil.... falafels were hard as rocks. Tabouleh was flavorless. I never heard the end of it after the meal, even from my son who is an avid fan of this cuisine. We are definitely going back to Nono's next time.

King Ahiram was always a popular option among my uni friends when we needed a quick, cheap meal…read more The funny thing was that nobody actually knew what this place was called because the most prominent words on the sign are CAFE LEBANESE FOOD. It's only when you really take notice that you see King Ahiram's name on there. So yeah, until I paid closer attention when I decided to review it, this place was always known to me and everyone I know as 'the Lebanese place'. I guess the point I'm making is that at a place like this the name is unimportant. The food is tasty, cheap, and a bit on the greasy side so it ticks all the boxes for hungry youths. I wouldn't go here expecting a gourmet meal, but for the prices and the convenience it's worth munching on a felafel kebab or cabbage roll. 'The Lebanese place' might not be fit for a King despite its namesake, but it's definitely fit for a starving student.
