I was in the area and I decided to check out some of my coveted bookmarks and Delice Antillais popped up. Let me set the record straight, I love new hardly discovered places. The reason being is you are going into the murky unknown where Yelpers have not treaded before. This place had only one review and it was five stars.
Many Haitian/Creole restaurants are simple establishments. Don't come here for the decor. You will be disappointed. It's pretty plain Jane simple with a cooler, order counter and menu on the wall with a TV on. If you are expecting high class decor go to Fourchette Antillaise in St Laurent. Here there are some stools around one small long counter. So it's totally more of a takeout place.
When I ordered it was an older woman who didn't look very happy. I politely ordered the Turkey meal and she asked a few questions (en francais) of what I would like added. Her accent was thick and hard to understand so I just went along and said yes to all. Options are a small plate $8 or a large plate $10. I went with the large plate. I was thinking from her experience this was going to be a 3/5 because she didn't seem very happy to serve me. However such is life. Then a nice younger man came in who appeared to be the owner and greeted me and finished off my transaction when paying. I asked how long he had been open and he politely said two years.
Here's the skinny on the food. She served me pork instead of turkey but it was so tender and delicious. I'm actually glad I got the pork instead. Served with plantains, macaroni salad, the liquid gravy sauce and red beans and rice. Pickliz was spicy but zesty. Everything was amazing flavour and the serving is huge and great value for the price. It's served in a big styrofoam container. Half was left for a next day snack.
I shall be back. It's delish. Simple, no frills but great flavour! read more
