Best place in Laval to get Haitian food!!!!…read more Everything is freshly made and very tasty. The portions are very big and the price is very low so good bang for your buck. You need to go early and like that you know for sure they will have everything you want. You have a small counter where you can eat but it gets really busy so you wont be able to eat there so be ready to take your platter home and eat it in peace so you can really enjoy it. They have chicken, turkey, griot, fish, legim and a few more dish to choose from with also riz colle or riz blanc. Everything is very good so you will not be disappointed regardless what you choose. This is a family own and run business and the service is #1. The owner is always welcoming you with a huge smile and a hello and its the same with his lovely wife. Always thanking you for coking by. Makes you want to go back again and again because they are so inviting. MUST TRY!!!!!

Firstly it was very busy with a 10 minutes lineup to order... which can be a good thing. Secondly there's no seating so your order, grab the food and go! I went with the Griot and fried rice. The food was good but it's not the best I've eaten. I personally prefer Chez Nadine. The food was more dry than I'm comfortable with. Other than that, the price is great and the service I got was very friendly and awesome. I'd come back to try them out again. Bonus points for being a family business. Oh, take the Fruit Champagne as a drink.... it's pure heaven.

What is La Lou's secret? We have been dining at La Lou for over 25 years, it is our "Go-To"…read morelocation for all our little special occasions. You are welcomed so warmly by the staff, always helpful but NEVER intrusive. Honestly makes you feel like you are at a Louisiana local neighbourhood Chow-Down, as friend not a patron. Love that about La Lou. Last night's dinner started with a Hurricane, for me and a spicy Caesar for my partner. The Hurricane was delicious, a perfect blend of fruit juices and rum, I could drink these and nothing else, for the rest of my life. My partner reported the Caesar was perfect, from the mix to the spicy bean garnish. Our appetizers were Hush Puppies (of course) and Crab Cakes. The Hush Puppies were little balls of flavour, texture and taste, prepared to perfection. The crab cakes had the crispy exterior and soft, savoury and delicious interior. Love the presentation. I should have taken photos but I was too interested in devouring these little jewels. My partner ordered the Meat Jambalaya, he was blown away by the perfect seasoning, combination of the ingredients, Andouille sausage, smoked ham and chicken. He says he highly recommends this dish. Ordinarily, I go with the blackened fish of the day, but this visit I thought I would try Lou's Famous Fried Chicken. There is a reason it is "Famous". The chicken was juicy and tender, the coating was crisp and delicious. It came with a side of seasoned fries, delicious and tender. We desperately wanted the incredible Bananas Foster dessert but there was no way we could eat another bite, so we finished off with 2 BB King specialty coffees. You have to try one, if you go; delicious! Again, I forgot photos! Coffee, Bailey's and darned if I can remember the other ingredients. They are listed on the menu. All this to say that if you are visiting Montréal - this is a "Must visit" destination. We live 65 kms away and gladly brave the traffic to avail ourselves of this little treasure chest of Louisiana flavours.

Apparently this place has been around for about 35 years along with other spots in this neighborhood. I was starving so we ordered right away and asked for sweet potato fries. They came out super hot since the kitchen was just a few steps away. They had a very flakey flour coating and were delicious with the sauce. The paneed chicken with creamy green peppercorn sauce was good with the garlic mashed potatoes. Not bad but kind of expensive for what it was. As for the meat jambalaya, it seemed a bit skimpy on the meats... Just a few pieces of sausage, ham and chicken. Good tomato based sauce. Overall food to price value is a 4/5.

The reason being is you are going into the murky unknown where Yelpers have not treaded before. This place had only one review and it was five stars. Many Haitian/Creole restaurants are simple establishments. Don't come here for the decor. You will be disappointed. It's pretty plain Jane simple with a cooler, order counter and menu on the wall with a TV on. If you are expecting high class decor go to Fourchette Antillaise in St Laurent. Here there are some stools around one small long counter. So it's totally more of a takeout place. When I ordered it was an older woman who didn't look very happy. I politely ordered the Turkey meal and she asked a few questions (en francais) of what I would like added. Her accent was thick and hard to understand so I just went along and said yes to all. Options are a small plate $8 or a large plate $10. I went with the large plate. I was thinking from her experience this was going to be a 3/5 because she didn't seem very happy to serve me. However such is life. Then a nice younger man came in who appeared to be the owner and greeted me and finished off my transaction when paying. I asked how long he had been open and he politely said two years. Here's the skinny on the food. She served me pork instead of turkey but it was so tender and delicious. I'm actually glad I got the pork instead. Served with plantains, macaroni salad, the liquid gravy sauce and red beans and rice. Pickliz was spicy but zesty. Everything was amazing flavour and the serving is huge and great value for the price. It's served in a big styrofoam container. Half was left for a next day snack. I shall be back. It's delish. Simple, no frills but great flavour!
