Accessed by a grass lined track, and sitting high above Bala and Bala Lake is Fron Dderw Country…read moreHouse, one of the finest Bed and Breakfasts I have stayed in. The only small downside is apparent immediately, the car park is very small, just big enough for about five cars, which requires great organisational skills from the owners. If you're first in, you're definitely last out! The outer conservatory area is perfect for all those muddy boots, Fron Dderw is set up for walkers. The owners were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble, pointing out the music room where you can relax and wile away a few hours, the opulent lounge and the dining room, with the unbelievable views of Bala and Bala Lake.
Our room was very spacious, had contemporary furnishings, a superking sized bed, a large en suite, tea and coffee making facilities, and that stunning view. Surprisingly good WiFi connection for a such a hilly location too, and quite racy art on the walls! Before we got there we had booked an evening meal, at £29.95 each, not cheap! After several emails to the owner to gauge our likes/dislikes we were served an outstanding evening meal. The setting was perfect, a dining room to ourselves, gentle music in the background and a window seat looking in to the twinkling darkness of Bala. A cracking starter, a sublime main of Hake and fennel gratin, and the refreshing Raspberry jelly dessert - a menu just for us, perfect!
After a restful nights sleep and an equally flavoursome breakfast, I was impressed, most B&Bs/Hotels flatter to deceive, this one delivered. Scuppered on photographing the perfect view though, thought I would leave it until the morning, to find the whole hillside cloaked in mist!
