We chose the Gwynfryn Guest House because…read moreof its central location inside the city walls, good reviews, an amazing chapel breakfast area, and overall affordability.... I'm happy to say we had no regrets! A couple things I'd highlight: -We met one of the owners (Colin, I believe) and he was super welcoming and suggested a great local restaurant around the corner called Watsons Bistro. -The rooms are very tasteful and the beds are comfortable. -The breakfast was tasty and the service was great. -The chapel is really very beautiful/special/fantastic/all the adjectives. -We parked right outside the walls for a cheap price. It was only a few minutes walk. No big deal. Conwy and Snowdonia were our favorite places to visit on our Wales trip, and the Gwynfryn Guest House definitely contributed to that! We would happily go back.

As of last Sunday 5/20/2017~ish, the new kitchen and breakfast room has been relocated to the old church chapel - it's awesome! So, the room I stayed in was in the "vestry" and was superb! All brand new, clean and cozy - the room was perfect! The ensuite bathroom was very nice (only needed some hand soap.) During my recent trip, I stayed twice, but a week apart...kinda coming and going. Both visits were stellar. Colin was extremely cool and accommodating (only met Monica briefly - she was quite friendly). I'm not sure how soon I'll be back, but I will only stay at Gwynfryn during my next visit to Conwy - it was PERFECT! 5 stars...so SOLID!

On arrival the alarm bells rang and that was just looking at this place from the outside. I was greeted by the very pleasant John and shown to my room. Although clean enough, the room was in a really bad state of repair and the decor was extremely tired to say the least. When I go away, I expect a decent standard of accomodation and this fell way short. I was really annoyed as I had travelled a long way to get here. The Kirk Lea Guest House website is extremely misleading and there are lots of issues within the room I was due to stay in. The window would not close, there was a burn on the polystyrene light fitting and the floor was very uneven. The furniture was very worn and damaged and nothing matched at all, not an attempt to look "shabby chic" I can promise. There have been some attempts to decorate by the current staff who are well aware of the appearance of the place and were very apologetic when I approached them with my impression of the place. They were helpful and could not have done more to assist me in finding a suitable alternative. This review in no way reflects on John and Val who are lovely people and I wish them well for the future!.

The people who run the guesthouse are friendly and helpful, using their local knowledge to recommend places to visit. The car park is secure, but its irregular shape can make parking somewhat of a challenge, when it's nearly full. The rooms are immaculately clean, and quiet and peaceful, even though the centre of Porthmadog is very close. They feel like they probably have too much furniture in them, but that is only a minor quibble. No smoking in the guesthouse is a definite plus. My only minor gripe is the continental breakfast, a little too self service! I don't mind making my own breakfast and I prefer a light start to the day, but the lack of variety or filter coffee, was a little disappointing. I would recommend Tudor Lodge to anybody and we will probably go back, but the breakfast could be improved.

Situated at the end of Porthmadog's main thoroughfare - and therefore handy for everything - the Lodge is a classy guesthouse/B&B, with reasonable rates: Single from: £39.00; Double from: £64.00, has beautifully presented rooms (our ensuite bathroom was absolutely immaculate) and with tv and tea/coffee making facilities provided as standard. The staff couldn't have made us feel more welcome, and our stay was quiet, relaxing and comfortable. The breakfast room is a definite plus - a nice place to relax in the morning, with a wide range of food on offer on a self-serve basis. No smoking in any part of the lodge (another plus) with an adjacent and secure car park for guests. Can't wait to go back, really.

Mark was especially helpful giving us hiking tips and general info. Our room was on the top floor, number 6, facing the river - what a great view! Everything was quite clean, nicely furnished and the beds were comfortable. Breakfast the first morning was okay, but as we were finishing, I heard another guest raving about the "avocado toast" he had yesterday. Hmm...we weren't advised about this dish. The next morning, I asked, "Do you have avocado toast?" Sweet Emily replied, "Oh yes, I always forget about the specials - let me check." As it turned out, the avocado toast was one of the BEST dishes I had during my two week travels in Wales & the UK (I know you're thinking..."Wales & UK?") Ask a Welshman. In all, our stay was excellent and if Paul McCartney stays at Plas Tan y Graig, then it's good enough for me - see photo in dining room on fireplace mantle. Thanks for the hospitality Annette, Mark and Emily!
