It's a cute little (and a bit dated) Chinese but the staff were so friendly and helpful, the food was gorgeous and there was plenty of it. The staff even helped show us how to make napkin fleur de lis while we waited for food to arrive. We had the worlds pickiest teenager with us and she's decided we need to move here because its the best Chinese in the world. Honestly, if she can be pleased, then a good job has been done. If you like Chinese and fed up of the usual bar meals (everything with chips) that's quite common here, then this is def the place to go.

Elizabeth and Colin make you feel very welcome and the breakfast is excellent. They even provide home made marmalade. The views over the Borth Bay are stunning, though access to the (very pretty) house is through a gate straight on to the road (Children beware!) When we arrived we noticed that all of the doors had signs on them asking guests to close doors quietly and so we made a concerted effort to do just that, so we were a bit surprised the next morning when they asked if we could be quieter. We did do our very best and often felt like ninjas creeping around slowly opening and closing doors! Borth y Gest is a great place to stay with a number of small attractive beaches and costal walks it's also an ideal starting point to explore the local area from as it's only a short 10min walk into Porthmadog. Price wise this was an excellent choice and you'd be hard pressed to find better for less. I would recommend to all (except those of you with noisy door opening skills)

Mark was especially helpful giving us hiking tips and general info. Our room was on the top floor, number 6, facing the river - what a great view! Everything was quite clean, nicely furnished and the beds were comfortable. Breakfast the first morning was okay, but as we were finishing, I heard another guest raving about the "avocado toast" he had yesterday. Hmm...we weren't advised about this dish. The next morning, I asked, "Do you have avocado toast?" Sweet Emily replied, "Oh yes, I always forget about the specials - let me check." As it turned out, the avocado toast was one of the BEST dishes I had during my two week travels in Wales & the UK (I know you're thinking..."Wales & UK?") Ask a Welshman. In all, our stay was excellent and if Paul McCartney stays at Plas Tan y Graig, then it's good enough for me - see photo in dining room on fireplace mantle. They'll recommend walks or hikes nearby, tell you how to do it the easy way, and they make a tasty breakfast. (Say yes to the local bacon) There are plenty of spots to hang out in the house besides your room, if you find yourself needing to wait out a spot of rain. Plus, it's very eco-friendly! They have a greywater system for the garden, they'd just had 21 days of heating the water for the house with solar &/or wood. Fairtrade & local are their monikers too. But they don't beat you over the head with it, you have to ask to find out that's what they do. I think this a lovely part of Snowdonia to visit, because it's not as well known. But you can hike for seven miles out behind the house before you hit another house, and you won't find super-busy trails full of other hikers. Big bonus in my book.

The breakfast in the restaurant is hot and cooked to order with high quality ingredients. The rooms are very comfortable, quiet, and nicely decorated. The shower has great water pressure and is hot. Check in is smooth and friendly. It's everything that we could have asked for.
