Although it took me a while to make a decision, I eventually contacted him several months later to get the process started. His quote to me was very competitive, and even a little bit better, than other companies. And to make it even better, he included free pickup and delivery. We agreed on a pick-up time, and he was here on time with plenty of options for me to choose from as far as the material to be used. He quoted a drop off time of completion, and met that on time! I spent some time looking for the right shop to do the work. Jamie walked me through the process and answered all of my questions, and offered a very reasonable price considered the chairs needed to be stripped down to the frame and springs, not only replacing the fabric, but all of the framing foam as well. It was done in a week and when I came back, not only did they reupholster the ottoman to perfection, they also made a slip cover with the extra fabric (at no charge), which fits like a glove when you slip it on. Provided fabric books so I can browse thru. Ended up deciding with another fabric I found on my own. After that, I asked for an updated/formal quote. I understand people get busy, so I gave it some time. About two weeks later, I followed up because I genuinely wanted to support a local business, especially since he is located very close to me. I did not receive a response, so I followed up again the next day. Then the quote suddenly became $1,250--not including fabric. When I questioned why the price had more than doubled, I was told it was because the chair needed new foam, even though that was included in my original request. I explained that was included in the original quote so I asked what changed? No response since then. I received several other quotes, all hundreds less, with some even including fabric. He wasn't the cheapest either from start. For context, this is a relatively simple armless chair. There are no upholstered arms or sides--just the seat and back so it didn't make sense. If the original quote was a mistake, just say that. Instead, the poor communication and unexplained price increase made me feel like my three weeks was wasted. I specifically wanted to support a local business and had several more vintage pieces to reupholster, but I'll be taking that work elsewhere. My tip for future customers, get it in writing.
