    Dr. Chen is the best dentist I've ever had. My hygienist Nina is great too. The front desk staff is very helpful and professional!

But when it really is time to do so in order to provide the best care, they let me know that it's time. The office switched to text notifications a few years back and there were sending excessive, in my view, text messages. I provided that feedback and I noticed this time that I received far less. Adam used to be my hygienist before he retired far too early, again in my opinion and he was so great. But Barbara, who takes care of my teeth now, is good as well. Dr. Fong does tend to get booked up quickly so if you have to cancel last minute and want to reschedule, it might not be possible. I love that they have a work life balance as well, the office is closed on Friday! The receptionist can be a bit stiff at times. There is plenty of parking. All is all, a great doctor with very good staff.

Unfortunately, my visit today for a cleaning and exam was a very disappointing experience. For background, my oral hygiene has consistently been excellent for my age. My periodontal charting typically ranges from 1-3 mm with no bleeding and only an occasional 4 mm pocket. Tartar buildup has historically been minimal and limited to a few areas, usually requiring ultrasonic scaling only on the inside of my lower front teeth and the outside of my back molars. I have never had issues with either ultrasonic or hand scaling in the past. During today's appointment, the hygienist began using the ultrasonic scaler aggressively on every tooth. The procedure was unusually uncomfortable, and I was concerned as to why this level of scaling was necessary throughout my entire mouth. I signaled multiple times that I was in pain, particularly around restorations. Although she paused briefly, she resumed with the same level of force. Eventually, I had to ask her to stop due to multiple areas of irritation in my mouth. When she resumed after a short break, the scaler poked my lip, which was quite painful. Although there was no bleeding, the incident added to my discomfort. She told me the cleaning was almost finished, so I agreed to continue. At that point, her technique changed significantly and became much more gentle--similar to what I have experienced with other hygienists. I do not understand why this gentler approach was not used earlier, especially after I repeatedly communicated my discomfort. Feeling mistreated, I chose to end the cleaning at that point and did not proceed with hand scaling. The doctor then came in for the exam. While she remained professional, I felt very rushed, as it appeared she was in the middle of another appointment and was simultaneously directing staff in the adjacent room. I am still experiencing pain in multiple areas of my buccal mucosa, with visible irritation and a few tiny blood blisters. Overall, this visit was stressful and painful, and it was very disappointing given my positive experiences at this office in the past.

First off, since this is Covid season, a lot of people who are concerned about aerosols can be at ease here. I had an appointment this week, and they have their safety protocols in place and well-organized! You sign a Covid consent form before arriving, call or text before being let it, and they take your temp when you enter. The hygiene and assistant are donned with PPE from head to toe quite literally. The chair is wrapped in plastic, and the operatory is equipped with filters to suck the air during the procedure. At the end of the visit, they rewrap the chair and wipe everything down. Seems like lots of extra work for everyone, but I definitely felt safe. Ok, on to the rest of the review... The practice is small with one doctor, one assistant, one hygienist, and one office manager who is also the receptionist. The staff is always very pleasant. Upon entering, you will be greeted with a warm and friendly hello by Desiree, the office manager. Don't be surprised if you get caught up in a conversation with her because she's that approachable and easy to talk to. Well, the whole office is, really. The assistant is also very friendly and gentle when taking x-rays. That is important to me because I have a major gag reflex. With the new digital x-rays, the "film" is even bigger. Alba handles it very well. So, I appreciate that very much!!! Also, nice that I haven't had to retake x-rays because the assistant didn't take it right the first time. The hygienist, Mina, is also excellent at what she does and is so, so gentle on the gums. I've had deep cleanings with her without anesthesia, and I didn't cry from the pain. She's also a dental hygiene instructor, so she's very knowledgeable! Dr. Watkins has only so far done my exam after cleanings, and my encounters with him have been brief but pleasant as well. I'm also glad that he doesn't cheat his patients like I've heard from other offices. Good ethics are practiced here! I definitely, highly recommend coming here!

Was a DeltaCare USA Medicare patient for the last 2 years: * did gingevectomy on all 4 sides, $166 each * did 6 crowns at $150 + 533 each (the impression and the crown itself), for three of them had to do lengthening for $400 each, * did 11 fillings (twice on one of the teeth, asked why and got a lame excuse) at $85 to $108 each * did many cleanings, including "deep" cleaning, with laser and more, as recommended by the doctor - total paid more than $8000 - this is not a small amount, but hopefully my mouth is all done and I can return to routine cleanings and be done. yes? no! The doctor decided she would not work with DeltaCare USA Medicare anymore, and they did not even call to cancel the appointment and notify us. Bottom line: Office looked dated. There is a wheelchair ramp, not very safe but servicable. Doctor leaves all explanations to the office lady, which seems a bit crude IMO. Had a nagging feeling that she is over-treating, but could not really verify as I am not qualified... (took x-ray for second opinion and got a vague "it is probably OK" answer) There are better options out there, and anyway she would not accept my insurance anymore so it is a moot point.
