Such a great experience overall. From checking in to getting the whole run down by the staff. My daughter and I felt welcomed and as nervous as we were everyone put us at ease. Skip the gym and book a class, Will was a great instructor kept the motivation going. Definitely kicked my butt in a good way. Can't wait to book another class!

Great studio, great music, and a killer workout every time. I've been a regular for a year and I'm still hooked. The entire staff is professional, and Olivia is my favorite instructor to ride with. Five stars for the CycleBar team!

Just updating my review to say I feel exactly the same as I did a year ago . Studio is still excellent!! Phenomenal instructors, clean facility, consistently great workouts, etc. I'm still here 3-6 times a week and never get tired of it (I'm currently 35 weeks pregnant and I'm STILL coming -- can't keep me away LOL).

Rating: 4.5/5 - this review is based on one class…read more This gym is great for beginners and an older crowd. I didn't realize how much of a gym desert Castro Valley is until today. I'm originally from San Diego and there are plenty of gyms around my area. However, my sister did mentioned she lived in an older more suburban neighborhood. Unfortunately, I wanted more of a challenging HIIT class that you can find at Barrys or F45 (both of which are an hour away from here). With that being said, they do have TRX bands and assault bikes as well as a variety of weights. They also offer beverages between $1-$5. They were also nice to let you use the assault bikes before and after class. I was expecting more of an energetic and motivated crowd but it was more of a mellow crew of retirees and a preteen boy. It was definitely not what I expected in a bootcamp/HIIT class. Nevertheless, it was a great class albeit I felt like the only gym rat there. Earlier in the class, there was some confusion (partially because the trainer was also teaching people online) but he was able to modify some of the routine so most of us understood what to do. I never expected wanting to do more after a workout but this is a great class if you want to be challenged but not physically exhausted. I also recommend a voice amplifier and more prompts (i.e lift your arms above your head, etc) for the trainer as there was some confusion (maybe due to the music, his low tone or lack of prompts). Will visit again if I'm in the area as it's relatively close to where my family lives. Parking: Plaza Parking Recommendation: They have a first timer special - 3 classes for $50 that includes personal training but I would check online or in person to make sure that it's accurate. They also offer open gym to those with classpass!

I have multiple injuries and body issues that make it hard to work out. I was always injuring myself the moment I tried to do weight training on my own. With Awesta I give him feedback on when something is challenging or exacerbating an issue--I'm learning good form to avoid injuries. He is always responsive and finds modifications so I can stay engaged the entire work out. I also find it more affordable than I expected. I don't do the group classes though they look great, it's a bit too advanced for me given my limitations. Being in there a few times a week, I watch the entire staff cultivate a warm, welcoming environment where you/they say hi to everyone who walks into the space. It's also very diverse. I'm talking both staff and members, culturally, age-wise, body types, genders--no one ever makes you feel you don't belong there.

Instead of explaining the policy, he was RUDE, dismissive, and made us feel uncomfortable. When we asked about a guest pass, he bluntly said no. After we came back with a buddy pass, he laughed in our faces. We were also never informed there was a $10 option to attend, which we would have happily paid. We ultimately left and went to 24 Hour Fitness using my daughter's membership, and had the complete opposite experience--staff and instructor were welcoming and professional. Time to change gyms.

Nothing fancy. Locker room is pretty drab. Parking is a cinch since it's in a shopping complex. No swimming pool, sauna, or steam room, fyi. Gotta go to the 24 at Bayfair Mall or Floresta for that. Note: The Bayfair location is grimy and unsanitary. Locker rooms and pools are the pits. Get it together. Sorry not sorry. Like why are the 24 Hour Fitness locations in Pleasanton, Union City, and Fremont so much more well maintained and modern??! East Bay, we're getting bamboozled. On the other hand, some of the "members" in the East Bay are to blame. I'll leave it at that. In terms of membership costs, I'd wait for a promotion to pop up. I was able to get the nationwide access membership for $20/month. I paid about $240 upfront. Otherwise, membership is about $40-$50 per month. Too bad Costco stopped selling the annual membership package. Coo, winter is coming. That means holiday hibernation and food comas. Time to get ahead of it and hit the gym! See you on the flip side!

When I arrived the two girls at the front confirmed who I was and started to help me sign in and discuss memberships and what the gym offers. Immediately both girls started saying that since I'd used a buddy pass I was not allowed to do the trial. I used the buddy pass one time over a year ago. No where did it state this in the sign up documents. When the girls said this I said I said okay have a great day and walked out. When I turned as I walked out they were laughing. Overall a horrible experience.

It's definitely dirtier than my local City Sports in Sacramento. The worst part about this club for me is that the free weights were a complete mess. The dumb bells appear to be in random order and plates seem to be haphazardly put back as well. I got here at 5am when they open and there was an old plastic water bottle on the floor. Seems like no one is taking care of this gym. Not specific to this location, but City Sports Club needs to open earlier on the weekend. 8am is ridiculously late. Would love to see 6am or earlier Saturday and Sunday like almost every other gym does. With all of that said, this gym does have a good variety of equipment and I appreciate that City Sports has locations all over Northern California I can access.

There is tons of dirt and dust buildup around the machines. It's super nasty. The bathrooms are even worse. Often a toilet is closed and a urinal is almost always flooded with piss, where teenagers then decide to keep flushing it and thus spill onto the floor, causing the bathroom floor to be extremely sticky. The cardio equipment is in very poor shape with many units out of service. The machines themselves are even worse. So many of the downstairs machines are either broken or completely neglected to the point of not being usable - particularly the leg machines. I once saw a machine where the "out of order" sticker was replaced by a homemade sign saying something like "your dues at work, 24 does not care". It was really embarrassing. Lastly, all the attachments for the cables are gone. People have stolen them. Broken windows theory or something, but you can't even get a workout in these days - you have to really innovate... except the machines are also out of order, and the adjustable cable machines are also, out of order. Don't waste your time. This gym has really been on a decline for the past decade and I don't see it getting any better. Just go to fitness 19.
