The owner and staff are the finest! My purchase of a recumbent trike was a fine experience from first to last. There were some issues with the long chain run on my new trike, and David Brink, the owner of Cycle Mania was at my home in a flash to make the necessary adjustments. He assured me that they were ther to make sure that everything was PERFECT. We rented two bikes from Cycle Mania for the week. Everyone was super helpful and friendly. Great customer service and answered all our questions. We didn't realize how centrally located Cycle Mania was to all of the breweries and the Eastern Promenade bike trail which made getting in and out of the area extremely easy. Would recommend renting from Cycle Mania as we definitely will rent from them again! read more

They rent Trek bikes for the day complete with helmet and lock for $35 which I found to be a great deal. The shop staff were friendly and checked the bikes before renting them out to us. They had a map on the counter and gave directions and advise on how to best go about seeing the city. This rental location is right by the Back Cove trail and the start of the Eastern Prom trail which easily loops you around to the complete other side of the peninsula. Definitely recommend doing a bike ride on a visit to the city. read more

Here's my complaint. This bike shop is so discriminatory towards anyone who doesn't have own a bike that's over $2,000. The customer service really sucks here as they are ALWAYS slow and super busy. I come in with my respectable $600 bike to get some AIR and was told I needed a appointment to do so! And my experiences here aren't just a one-time complaint. I've given this shop SEVERAL visits (over the past three years) & every time I get bad/lackluster customer service. If you want a good bike shop- go to Gorham Bike & Ski on the Westend. read more

If you are anything like me, you've had numerous occasions in which a bike lover will enthuse how much owning a bike "changes one's life." True to this old trope, after my experience at Cycle Mania, I will never buy another bike, for as long as I live. I first made the mistake of walking into this shop a few days after my birthday. I have not owned a car in over 20 years, and have been perfectly happy walking everywhere. However, after years of hearing people propagandize on behalf of biking, I decided to give it a try. I had succeeded in stashing away enough of my meager savings to buy a decent bike, and after an hour of speaking with the staff, walked out with a 450-dollar bike that the staff assured me was worth at least 200 dollars more... "It just has a few cosmetic dings from shipping- it's as good as new!" they enthused. I also walked out with another 100 dollars worth of accessories, including a helmet and a sturdy Kryptonite bike lock. I only had that bike for three and a half months- and it was a horrific headache from the first day I had it. Within 48 hours, parts started falling off of it. The bike would shift randomly through the gears at unexpected times- usually when in traffic, when such shifts were incredibly dangerous. Two weeks after buying it, thieves broke through the kryptonite lock, and stole the tires. When I brought the bike in to see if I could get the tires replaced, I also asked if they could actually take a look at the gears, to make the bike a tad less- well- DEADLY. When I picked up my bike, I was assured that they had "ridden the bike around the block" to ensure the gears worked. I bought another, heavier Kryptonite lock, and rode the bike home. Well- I TRIED to ride the bike home, but the service department had not bothered even setting the chain back on the gears- proving they had not ridden the bike anywhere. I had to put the chain back on, myself, and was not too surprised to find they had not fixed the randomly-shifting gears. Two weeks later, the seat started falling off. I brought the bike back yet again to be serviced, and asked- very politely- for them to PLEASE take a look at the gears after fixing the seat. Nope- they didn't. On the ride home, the gears continued to slip. A week later, there was a light rainfall, and I discovered- much to my chagrin- that Kryptonite locks cannot be exposed to ANY moisture- otherwise, they jam, and have to be either picked by a locksmith, or sawed off. It took me three weeks to figure out that any Kryptonite lock can be sawed off, using a rechargeable drill and a two-dollar cutting wheel- so much for security theater, I guess. By the time I finally cut the lock off the bike, and was able to ride it again, I had had it for two months- during that time, it had been in for service twice, and locked to a fence for over three weeks. The gears were still slipping. After a friend lent me another Kryptonite lock, I was comfortable riding it to work again- for a week. That's when the gear mechanism became detached from the frame, and wrapped itself around the axle like cheap tinfoil. The bike skidded erratically, and I was thrown off- thankfully, I landed in grass. Had this happened in traffic, I would certainly have been killed. I had to hand this broken machine over to Cycle Mania yet again for servicing, with absolutely no hope of them doing their job right- I had no other choice. When I got the bike back, they had replaced the broken mechanism, but true to their shoddy practices, the gear problem had still not been fixed. A few weeks later, thieves broke through the THIRD kryptonite lock, and stole the bike in its entirety. Good riddance- buying this bike was, without a doubt, the worst 800-dollar decision of my adult life. Now, when I hear people enthuse about how great owning a bike is, I can only shake my head, and chuckle. I will never own a bike again- it was a living nightmare- thanks to the guys at Cycle Mania. read more

We rented bikes for two days and were very pleased with the service at Cyclemania. I selected them because of their price $30/day. The gentleman who helped us took the time to not only fit out helmets properly and adjust the heights of the bikes, but he also took the time to look at a map with us and show us different routes to see the lighthouses that we were interested in. And we didn't have to ask him, he was making general conversation and when we mentioned wanting to use the bikes to see the lighthouses he immediately offered to show us routes. Upon returning the bikes the store was busy, it was Saturday, but we did not have to wait long at all to be acknowledged and helped. I would recommend Cyclemania to anyone who was to rent bikes in Portland. read more

They had a tag on an e-bike for $1000 under the actual price of this e-bike the first two or three times we went in to look at it. I had ridden this bike on Earth day, the day they announced the Electrify Bikes initiative at Payson park. I knew I wanted it and remembered the shop that was selling it. The fourth time I went in the salesman noticed this and informed me of it. He said it "Happens all the time". That seems like a big mistake to make all the time. We went in a fifth time and the tag had been removed. They also wouldn't honor the price at all. They were finally willing to give us a 10% discount to match the price if we went to REI. They weren't willing to order a new version of the same bike AND match the price though because we were using an Electrify Bikes city voucher. We wanted this bike but not the floor model as it had been used. Honestly the only difference between getting that 10% off the floor model versus them ordering in a new version of the same bike and taking 10% off is kindness. The salesman completely dismissed any concerns we had, even though it would be OUR bike at the end of the day if we paid for it, not his. WE would have to live with it and use it, not him. The best thing about the store was the dog! I feel sorry for it being around such a shady employee everyday, but it was kind and seemed like it was treated well. read more

After a 4 week bicycle tour from MN to ME, my friend and I brought our bicycles to Cycle Mania to be packaged and sent back to our respective homes. Cycle Mania offered us a very fair deal to pack the bikes, and even shipped my gear for me. They had no problem letting me rearrange my stuff in the middle of their shop despite it being a busy afternoon. They were kind and patient, and made the whole process so much less stressful than it could have been. Less than a week later, all my stuff arrived at my home safe and sound! If I lived in Maine, the guys at Cycle Mania would have earned a lifelong customer. I'll have to settle for leaving them glowing reviews in hopes that other people will be encouraged to go to them! Great shop, great people, and I'll definitely be stopping by next time I am in Portland! read more

My 1st interaction with Cycle Mania was a good one when I purchased my bike. Subsequent visits after that were not so good. When I brought my bike in for repairs/tuneups and to buy accessories, the people that I dealt with were condescending(bordering on rude) and disinterested in any concerns that I had each time. To make it worse, I had to return multiple times for the same repair issue. I am a patient person but the final straw came when I brought my girlfriend there to purchase here own bike. The salesman talked down to both of us the whole time that we were there so we just left and purchased her bike elsewhere. Haven't been back there since. read more

This is my first Yelp review and although I don't normally write reviews, I need to leave some critical feedback for Cycle Mania. I was very disappointed by the customer service provided today by one individual behind the service desk. I came in needing a new tire and called ahead of time to make sure they had the particular kind in stock. It turns out not only did they not have that particular kind in stock, they wanted to sell me a comparable tire for twice the price (without showing me multiple options that they had in stock or could order) AND lied to my face about the tube being "old and worn." This guy with his sales pitch voice did not even try to fill the tube with air or to identify the tiny hole and offer the simple solution to patch it up. Without me insisting that he test the tube, he just assumed he could get me to buy a new tube without a thorough assessment. I replaced these tubes 3 weeks ago. There is no way they are old and worn. Overall, this guy and this team want to make as much money as possible in sales. What business doesn't? However, I would rather give my money to a business that isn't going to try and take advantage of assumed ignorance and instead give my money to a business that has my best interest in mind. Thanks anyways, Cycle Mania! Pick your bike repair folks like you pick your car repair folks, people... Honest with a large side of integrity. read more
