I thought with the holiday weekend there might be a wait. I rolled the bike in and within a few minutes the service tech started to work. In no time at all I was on my way out the door. After reading reviews for local bike stores, I opted to visit Allspeed first. I went in just to check out what they had in stock, and little did I know they would help me find the most perfect bike at their shop. As soon as I walked in, I was met by the kindest staff. They asked me about my cycling goals, experience, budget, etc. They showed me a few bikes that met my needs and allowed me to test them out for a bit on the Bayside Trail, which is adjacent to their store. For me, it was love at first sight. I truly fell in love with one of their Fuji bikes I tested, and the rest is just history. I bought it on the spot and they even held it for me for a few days since I didn't have my bike rack with me that day. The whole experience was phenomenal - as a newbie to cycling, I was initially a bit intimidated about the whole purchasing-a-bike experience, but Allspeed made the process beyond amazing. A few days later, on my second ride, I got a flat tire. I took the bike back to Allspeed and within minutes they fixed it. They also noted that the tire was low in pressure, and acknowledged they should've double checked the pressure before selling me the bike. Because of that, they didn't charge me for the flat. I was blown away by their honesty and care.

If you're in…read morefairly good health and want the see some great spots in Portland, ME (i.e. Lighthouses, Promenade), I'd recommend renting a bike. Found this place online and located it south downtown area near Franklin St. You'll find the place by the bay in front of an Industrial Shipping Crate and several bikes parked in front. Matt was very friendly and found the perfect bike for me as I informed him that I'm shorter than average. He immediately found me the perfect bike that has a low seat. He even recommend some great places for lobster rolls as it was my first time in Maine. Customer Service from Matt (5/5) as I appreciated his helpfulness. Since it was a smaller bike, it would be $20 full day! Sweet. The bike appeared in fair condition as I tested it out, but along the way to the lighthouses, I found out the gears jerked and randomly switched on me. It definitely needed a tune up and made biking experience unpleasant especially going uphill. (2/5). I was provided a black and white printout of the map and was provided a Masterlock, wire, and a key. It's not a Kryptonite or the most helpful map I've been provided compared to other places like Urban Cycles or Adventures. Upon returning my bike, I met Issac, a different guy and asked if I could get a discount since it was was jerky. He claimed that it was too late and that I should of let them know before hand. I was also charged for a full price $30, even though it was a smaller size and just missed the half day time (2/5). I think my suggestion would be to explicitly charge on the card first and authorize to charge extra when going over and temporary charging if losing the bike. I would also recommend heading over to Gorham or Allspeed for a higher quality and smoother experience.

My experience was terrible. I brought my electric bike in for a tune-up and stood there for several minutes being completely ignored by staff who walked right past me without a word. When I was finally acknowledged, the energy was incredibly arrogant. It was essentially a 'what do you want?' attitude that felt extremely condescending. In my opinion, this isn't just a one-off employee issue; it's a culture of management and ownership that clearly starts at the top. They seem to be making so much money that they could care less about how they treat an individual customer. If you aren't part of their 'inner circle,' you are treated like an inconvenience. I can and will spend my hard-earned money someplace else where respect is part of the service." -- Richard Baker
