Traveled to Juneau via Cruise ship and signed up for this as an excursion. It was THE best tour. We had gorgeous weather, the route both road and trail were beautifully scenic and awesome. Loved the little bit of hiking to get to the lake and a chance to get closer to the glacier at the park! Perfectly what I needed to work off all the extra treats on board! Followed with a local beer tasting to hit the spot. Our tour guides did a fantastic job!! and had SO much info on Juneau. I would recommend this tour to ANYONE!! read more

I called ahead to let them know I'd be bringing in my bike for my wheel to be trued. This is something that I could do at home but I don't have the tools and I figured I'd ask them to do it because it would be cheaper and faster than buying the tools online and I was busy at the time. They told me truing would cost ~$37. No problem, I bring my wheel in. The technician says, based on the age of my wheel, I'm better off buying a new one rather than truing the old one. I respond that I'd rather repair than replace (especially because of environmental concerns), especially since the new wheel would cost ~$70 from their shop. The tech says, well we can't bring it up to spec. I say, no problem, it's not up to spec now, just do your best and I accept all liability for the repair not being done perfectly. They accepted the job for repair. They call me two weeks later saying they can't do the repair. Also they can't replace it because now they don't have the parts. I'm frustrated at this point and just want my bike to work. I let them know to just order the parts and get it done. I get a call that the bike is ready. Juneau has a short season where biking is comfortable and so far they've had my bike for 1.5 months. I pick it up and they had replaced my 25mm wheel with a 28mm wheel. Because they bought the wrong size, they needed to replace the tube and the tire. The tire alone was $45, costing more than the initial repair quote. It ended up costing over $100 and unnecessary landfill waste and extra damage to the environment for a repair job they had accepted for $37. Because they ordered the wrong size, the wheel didn't fit correctly on my bike and it rubs against the fork and fender, slowing me down and making loud noises. Of course, I originally brought in my bike to reduce the friction caused by my wheel being out of true. The truth is, this is the only bike shop in town. Just be sure to be very clear with them when you go in. read more

Wow, I love these people. My boyfriend and I canceled our cruise excursion to just go rent cycles directly from Cycle Alaska. Boy, are we glad we did! It was SO much cheaper to just rent bikes for the day and do our own thing, at our own pace, and using our own route (to the brewery!!) These folks were SO nice and friendly! In addition to being very affordable, they're awesome about prepping your bike, showing you your options (which were all good quality bikes), explaining things to you, and, most importantly, being super laid-back and cool about getting the bikes back after their official closing time. They did NOT have to be that nice to us, but they really were flexible and gave us the ability to bike to Alaska Brewery without having to rush to get back right at 6. This is a great way to see Juneau - highly recommend! read more

Bikes and Brews was one of the excursion options in Juneau, and I gotta be honest, you had me at brews!! We set out on a cloudy drizzly day, and were driven to our starting point where we got outfitted in rain gear and fitted to our bikes. We had a terrific group of tour guides who made our day a lot of fun. Once we set out on the bikes, the guides spread out among the riders, keeping us company and keeping us safe. We had several stops which were informational as well as photogenic. I never felt any pressure that I had to slow down or go faster. We had a couple of different stops where we could see the Mendenhal Glacier. At the end we got our fill of snacks and water before they dropped us off for the brew part of the tour. This was really a fun excursion and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is floating through Juneau. Our tour guides gave us information about Juneau from the time they picked us up until the time they dropped us off, and they were happy to answer any of our questions. During the brew portion of our tour, we had the opportunity to try 6 offerings from the Alaskan Brewery, from light to dark, they were all fabulous (my favorites were the APA and the oatmeal stout...yum). Our brew host was very knowledgeable, and the pub staff was incredibly friendly. I ordered some popcorn shrimp and it arrived pretty quickly (large portion as well). With dry clothes, warm food in my belly, and a variety of great beer floating through my system, I was a HAPPY camper!! read more

I just bought a women's Trek---a cross between a mountain bike and lighter road bike. The young sales guy was named Bryan and he was awesome! He taught me how to remove/assemble each tire, had me practice the removal/install/refill of a bike tube so I would know what to do if I got a flat. I also got a nice helmet, chain and lock. He gave me some road tips as well. After sitting on the couch all winter, I'm ready to ride!!! read more

While visiting Juneau, biking was our primary mode of transportation. We rented the Kona Mahuna 29er mountain bikes and put them through the wringer for three days and they did great, aside from a screw I ran over in the city. The rental package included a tube and tools so it was only a 5 minute inconvenience to pull out the screw and change the tube. The rental also included a biking map, lock and a bottle of water. The staff was really informative and friendly. My biking experience has been road biking up until this trip, and I definitely enjoyed mountain biking a ton. read more

We decide to rent directly from Cycle Alaska for our Junea stop on the cruise rather than pay for a guided bike tour. On the positives: They are very reasonably priced and they did included helmets, water, and a snack. On the negatives: They are a bit of a walk from the docks. They don't seem to have a very good way to account for what bikes they are renting out on a particular day. (i.e. when you make the rental, a specific bike for your size isn't being held for you, your just get what bikes they may have). They lost one of our orders so one person in our group had to ride a snow bike with extra large wheels. It was not the preferred choice, but all that we could do in that situation. Lastly, the rear derailleur was off on my bike so that it forced the chain into the spokes while in the granny gear. read more

Weather is "wet and ready" (terrain generates micro weather so it could rain at any moment) so you might as well put on the full rain gear they provide from the start. Our guides made it easy - they follow in a van where you can leave personal items and jump in should you not feel like biking anymore. All the tours were booked. We called around looking for bikes we could rent. Cycle Alaska told us to come on down. We had a group of 6 and I was concerned that there would not be enough bikes. Boy was I wrong. These guys had a ton of bikes available in all different sizes and combinations of standard bikes and e-bikes. We had no idea where to go and asked for recommendations. The recommendation was a ride to Mendenhall Glacier. We really enjoyed the ride but I have to warn you that you have to be in good shape as the ride there and back will take a few hours. If you are not comfortable riding for 2 hours get e-bikes. We rented the bikes for 4 hours and the ride there and back with some time spent at the Glacier took just over 3 hours. You can ride the bikes on some of the path from the visitor center to the Glacier which is a bit of a trek itself. Most of the walkers ask us to give them a ride. Bring a light waterproof jacket as you might encounter heavy mist in the afternoon. Make sure you have your gps set for the destination. It isn't difficult but you do need to make a few key turns. We did the "Bike and Brew" tour and had a great time! It was an 8.5 mile ride, with a trip to Mendenhall Glacier, then on to the Alaska Fish & Chip Company to sample 4 local beers. I'm 47 and in average shape and had no issues, but it was a workout. If you have a history of asthma, any breathing disorders, or blood pressure issues, you probably should "not" do this ride. Our guides were knowledgeable and helpful, and we saw bald eagles and swimming salmon along the way. The beer sampling was a lot of fun, and it was a great social time for our group. read more

We booked the Bike and Brew tour as part of our cruise to Alaska. Our guides were really friendly and interesting, which really made the trip a lot of fun. If you're looking for a super workout out of your bike ride, this isn't the right tour for you - I hadn't been a bike in probably 25 years, and I found the ride to be really nice and relaxing. The scenery is stunning - we rode out close to the Mendenhall Glacier, and saw bald eagles, mountain goats, and plenty of other wildlife. The combination of the great views and friendly staff really made riding with Cycle Alaska an excellent experience. read more

The 'special order' parts I recieved were low quality, and extremely high priced - not at all what I wanted to install on my bike. Returns are not welcome. Juneau was our first stop on our Alaska cruise. Thanks to Cycle Alaska we were able to truly experience the beauty of Alaska and be away from the city and well people. To be honest most of the crowed cruising up to Alaska are older, so booking excursions are a better option for them due to the hills and such. However, if you are a bit of the adventerous type and have biked at least once in your life without falling off of your bike, than the best and the most fun (and less expensive) option would be to reserve your bikes through the Cycle Alaska website prior to your arrival. Three days before our trip we reserved two moutain bikes through the Cycle Alaska website. The shop is about a 10 minute walk from the cruise ship dock on the right side of the street (stay on the bay side until you see the BRIGHT red building). JP was wonderful and extremely helpful. He set up our bikes prior to our arrival according to our individual heights. The bikes came completely equipped with a lock in case you want to go up on a hike and can easily lock it around a tree and enjoy your hike. He gave us clear instructions on the different paths we can choose from. Make sure to grab a map with you from the cruise ship, just in case the shop runs out of them. I would also like to mention that the granola bar and the bottle of water was a wonderful and a much needed addition, thank you for that, it was definitely a plus. We were EXTREMELY satisfied and glad that we reserved the bikes through Cycle Alaska. The biking experience was unimaginably exhilirating. The waterfalls, streams, absolutely gorgeous rainforest mountains is indescribable, it is something you have to experience yourself to understand. If you are physically capable to ride a bike, than you will not regret this experience. Thank you JP for setting up our bikes, answering ALL of our questions, the simple instructions, and of course the granola and the water. And thanks Cycle Alaska for the easy booking. When and if we go back to Juneau, without a doubt we are renting bikes from CYCLE ALASKA!!! and as much as we loved the trail we took, we are so excited to see just how much more beauty Alaska has to offer. We booked a bicycle tour to Mendenhall glacier. Our tour guide Josh greeted us at the pier in downtown Juneau and was very good throughout the experience. The ride was relatively easy with a couple stops along the way for pictures. Definitely a family friendly experience and if you get tired of bicycling they will let you ride in the van that is always leading the pack. read more

We rented full suspension mountain bikes and road Perseverance Trail. It rained on us off and on but it was still beautiful and completely worth the trip. I corresponded with Briana over email a few times and she was really helpful and responded quickly. The bikes were really nice, better than our bikes back home, and worked perfectly. The employees were knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. They even gave us a lift back to the cruise ship when they saw how cold and tired we looked! I highly recommend renting bikes from them. Our group decided to be in Juneau a few days before our cruise started right off Juneau. We were excited to potentially do the Bike and Brew activity. When we called to make the reservations we were turned down because we were not on an actual cruise. We were asked to call the morning of to see if there were any openings. We were too turned off that we were not appreciated as customers and that the treatment would be better if we had done the event after we were on the cruise. read more

My family of 7 choose the bike and brew excursion on our Alaskan Cruise this summer. It was a great time. We had the afternoon shift and we were very concerned since it had been raining steadily all morning. Luckily, they have complete rain gear outfits for your use. Fortunately for us, the rain stopped just as we started and the fog lifted and we had great views. The bald eagles were out in abundance at the Chapel and we were the only tourist at the first stop across from the glacier. Our driver and our tour leader were both excellent (Chris and Brianna). My youngest was nervous about the biking aspect, but she did great and the ride was relatively level after a few inclines in the first leg. We were in a bike lane close to traffic for part of the ride which made me a little nervous for my younger kids, but a lot of it was on a bike path or off-road. Because we made such good time on our bikes, we had almost a full hour at the glacier which gave us just enough time to hike to nugget falls and get some great pictures, but we did have to walk very quickly. The brew part of the tour was great as well - tasted 5-6 beers and they left the pitchers on the tables for seconds if you wanted them. Since 5 our our party were underage, there was more than enough beer for everyone else on the tour - our kids were given unlimited sodas/lemonade/root beer and we had some fish and chips for a snack. I recently took an Alaskan cruise and did the Bike and Brew tour through Cycle Alaska. It was by far my favorite excursion of the vacation. The biking was not challenging, but that's probably due to the number of older folks on Alaskan cruises, but the sights were unbeatable. The bike your was roughly 10 miles in 3 hours, but you got to see the glacier and the lake it flows into which is beautiful. The guides were also wonderful. Young and full of energy, and I had the pleasure of speaking with Sarah for most of the ride as she was the guide in front of the group and even at the slow pace were were going at, many of the older folks were quite a ways back with the other guides. Sarah as well as Hillary were fun to speak with, and knew their stuff! The beer portion was wonderful as well. We were taken to "the hanger" after our ride, which is on the Juneau harbor right by the cruise ships, and given generous portions of all the beers we tasted. I decided to stay and try more beers at the bar and everything I was served was great. Marina, the woman who led the tastings and was my bartender was also great. She knew everything I asked about the beers and more, and was an excellent bartender. I would recommend this tour to anyone looking to get a bit of exercise, see some beautiful places, and drink good beer! Thanks cycle Alaska! read more
