I emailed for a status update but initially received no reply. In less than 24 hours I received outreach DIRECTLY FROM THE COMPANY PRESIDENT, Mr. Brad Berger. When is the last time the president of a 74-year-old family business in the USA called you or emailed you? This was my first time. Mr. Berger determined there was a mix-up, and the items I ordered were out of stock. Someone was supposed to reach out earlier, but wires got crossed. I'll tell you folks something. I am not a spring chicken, and that means I was alive before everyone had cell phones, tablets, and laptops. I grew up in a time when companies, especially those like the Berger Brothers, really cared about their reputation and their customers' satisfaction. They would take the extra step to make things right when something disappointing happened. If I sound nostalgic, I AM. In this era of fast everything, few companies take the time to invest in customers and clientele. The Berger Brothers is one of those unicorn companies that hold fast to these traditions. While they didn't have what I ordered, Mr. Berger more than made up for the disappointment with his multifaceted outreach. He and his family business have set the bar for every other I encounter from here on out. Stellar, five-star service.

DO NOT GIVE YOUR MONEY TO THIS SCHOOL, AT THIS LOCATION OR ANY OTHER! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE LISTEN!…read more I enrolled in February 2014 for their professional cooking program at their Syosset, NY location. At first glance they make everything seem perfect, the staff pretends to be friendly and caring, everything looks professional and legit. They signed me up for financial aid, taking out a few grand in student loans and arranging for me to pay the remaining balance in monthly payments of $60. I started classes and for the first few weeks everything was fine, after that the truth of this school started to reveal itself. Slowly but surely I began to see that almost all of the students were coming to school high or drunk, with zero consequences enforced by the administration. Actually, it seems like they cater to degenerates so long as they're getting their money. Chef Mick was my class instructor, and in the beginning I really admired him and thought he was a person I could learn so much from - not at all true. The guy is a shady crook with a fake smile, and a line of b*llsh*t. All he cares about is his paycheck collected on the backs of the students tricked into enrolling with big promises. The students in my class, with the exception of one, were a joke. All fresh out of jail, or heading back to jail at any given moment. One of the students in my class was a 20 something year old male with a history of mental problems, and allegedly suffering from autism. WHY a school would sign him up for a cooking program and provide him with a set of professional KNIVES is beyond me - but they did. He slowly began to crack over the course of weeks, one time he got in my face and cursed me out for absolutely no reason - I complained to the school and they did nothing, except force him to apologize. After the forced apology his behavior degenerated even further, and about a week later he attacked me in the middle of class. Bear in mind I am a female, he got in my face, put me in a headlock and punched me numerous times in my face and head. In the middle of the kitchen classroom, with a handful of witnesses who saw the whole thing. The school put us in separate rooms, let him LEAVE and take a cab back home, and kept me sequestered by myself. The school REFUSED to call the police, and told me if I wanted the police called I would have to do it myself from my cell phone. Of course I did, and the second I made that call to the police I could see their demeanors change. Immediately the administration took an attitude with me, and I could see that they were only concerned with avoiding police involvement and a public scandal. The police arrived, took my statement and photographed my swollen face. The kid responsible was arrested two days later and charged with assault, he is still awaiting sentencing. The best part is this - there were cameras in the classroom that caught the whole assault. On video I can be seen trying to push the guy away from me in self defense right before he begins punching me. The school took the stance, that me pushing him away in self defense was me being involved in the fight, and kicked BOTH of us out of school!!!! I was kicked out of school for trying to defend myself when being assaulted by a male!! I fully believe they got rid of me because I involved the police, and they didn't like it. They showed ZERO sympathy to the fact that I had just been attacked on school grounds. Keep in mind - I was a straight A student at the top of my class, the ONLY straight A student at the top of my class, but that didn't matter. I was kicked out 5 months into my 9 month program, and am now left stuck with paying for my student loans AND having the school waste no time putting me into collections for the money I owe them. THIS SCHOOL PUT ME IN DEBT FOR BEING THE VICTIM OF A VIOLENT CRIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The assault left me depressed and traumatized for quite a while, and still affects me to this day. I was so excited to attend culinary school and follow my passions, and this school destroyed that with ZERO care or remorse. I had read some negative reviews for Star prior to enrolling, but I foolishly ignored them because they did not pertain to the Syosset location - HUGE MISTAKE! ALL OF THEIR LOCATIONS ARE CORRUPT! DO NOT TRUST THEM. DO NOT GIVE YOUR MONEY TO THEM. RESEARCH SCHOOLS AND TRUST THESE REVIEWS, I WISH I HAD!

The CEO then got involved and brought us all to a breakout room because it escalated to a war…read more Where she said after not listening to absolutely anything I or the other student had to say, She went on to tell us how BAD the teacher was feeling after that. Why manipulate the situation to make it seem like we should know and care about how bad he feels when he doesn't care AT ALL about absolutely anything he said or done or acted? He knows he's going to be protected by you and your company! Later that day I was told to join a meeting, What I thought of would of been " mediated " but the CEO, teacher Ro and program manager all attacked me simultaneously did not let me speak AT ALL whatsoever the CEO muted me the entire time everytime I would speak and didn't let me explain anything. She then deleted the video of the meeting purposely so she could get rid of the evidence. Why would she want to have that up on teams, you're literally mentally abusing someone putting them on mute every time their voice is trying to be heard and letting the teacher essentially talk down to me and make things up that didn't even happen. I was also told very rude and hurtful things by the teacher Ro which only a clinical psychologist and or psychiatric doctor would be able to make an opinion on. " you hear things that aren't said" Like I said they do not care what you have to say whether you were right or wrong. The teachers throw the information at you and expect you to retain it without actually teaching it properly, They take no criticism absolutely whatsoever and they can care less as to what their students opinions are right or wrong. They acted highly unprofessional on certain moments. They've spoke to the students as if they were in a position of power, as if they were giving us something. They don't respect mental health issues or individuals that deal with certain disabilities whatsoever. I was also told by a teacher that " I do the work for you." which wasn't the case at all. The CEO of the company took a week off before the program was supposed to end and told us about her miraculous vacation with her family that she was going on... ( just to add, the CEO was highly Inappropriate, she would often talk about what her husband did for work, what nationality her husband was, how old both of her kids were, what she was doing over the weekend when she was leaving class, family members that she was going to do things with... listen All of that is great but do your software engineering students need to hear about the personal details of your life every week? I know I personally don't care at all I was there to learn) Only to come back the week before class is supposed to end to tell us that she needs to push class back another week.. Seeing that they were only two people in the class that day...The main teacher also took a week off before the class was going to end. Just my personal opinion why would you take off during the most important time when students need the most help. It wasn't appropriate timing in my opinion. I wish could've avoided being a part of an education center that didn't hold up to what they promised at all... They really made it seem different in the beginning opposed to what it ended up being. I'm not the only student who feels this way regarding this company but I'm definitely the most verbal when it comes down to it, I'm not going to silence my voice. I genuinely feel what went on at certain times during the classes were inappropriately planned and or executed.I guess I hit a nerve posting this review as well seeing that I got an email from the CEO telling me to go over my signed documents and to reconsider what I wrote. I felt beyond intimidated. It's America I can say what I please.. I can sit here all day and add to this review because there is a lot more that I'm not adding...ALSO she's reaching out to each student to make them write a review based off of what I said, which isn't professional at all. What I said is the truth. If nothing was wrong why go out of your way to ask for better reviews this is childish, your asking for better reviews?

However, after talking to many other parents and comparing notes, I felt compelled to share our story. I signed my daughter up after being recommended by another parent. She began swimming at 10 months, and swam at the local community pool during summer months and joined a local CYO team in the fall/winter. The goal was to get her on a club swim team and continue perfecting her skills, and eventually swim in college. She attended a tryout at Long Island Swim School, and the instructor recommended that she take lessons with them prior to being considered for the club team, which was fine with us. However, we never received any updates or feedback about her progression. When asked, they insisted that she needed more time before being considered for the club team. The instructor gave a timeline and it when it came to following up, we got the runaround. After almost a year of lessons, we decided it was time to leave. It just felt like a money grab, and all we got were excuses that she would never be able to handle swimming for 1 and a half to 2 hours each day for about five days a week, which is what was required for the club team. It would've been nice to receive more encouragement and more positive feedback rather than negativity. The instructor was very discouraging. Also, it felt like pulling teeth when we requested to know more about her progress or about joining the club team. We were very clear about our goals. Now I'm beginning to realize many others have had a similar experience. My daughter is now on a club team and is thriving. For the record, she swims 1.5 to 2 hours, 5 to 6 days a week. She's also on her school team and did amazing this past season as a freshman. I hope you find this review helpful.
