Jarret quoted us for a stand up attic over the length of the garage area. We informed Jarett from day one we wanted the option to eventually turn the storage attic into an extra sleeping area, but instead we ended up with literally a crawl space that we can only stand on the stairs and reach so far into. Jarret has a great team working with him Fabian, and his framers; they're all nice hard working guys and very professional, but communication was a major problem; especially when getting our design information to his own team or the subcontractors. Jarret subcontracts all the work out except for the framers, so it became obvious he was doing other projects due to all of our delays, plus we also had to get on the subcontractors schedule as well. Scheduling the various jobs was another huge issue. Jarret gave us a 8-10 week completion time-frame it ended up more like 16 wks (we had only 1 rain day delay). We started off with a lot of days when no one showed up to work, so I started tracking them as "No Show/Work" on my cellphone calendar. Scheduling the various jobs was another huge issue. I had to keep every text conversation of our design plan conversation with Jarret or his team because it was not a good feeling when subcontractors or his own team replied "well that's not what Jarret told us to do". We would NOT recommend Jarret (JW Construction). We do not want anyone else to go through what we did...it was exhausting. A very good contractor once told me that the experience during the project can spoil the end results no matter how well the project turns out and he was so right.

He said it was just soot and someone from the office would contact me to reschedule because he would not be returning. After waiting all afternoon, I texted a 2nd number the company had contacted me from and said I had safety concerns about our fireplace not being clean, but I received no response. I sent another text next day with no response. I contacted them several times through our Yelp messaging over the next couple of days, stating safety concerns and not being able to use the fireplace until we spoke with them, contacted them through their website form, and also left two courteous voicemail messages for their office letting them know we had safety concerns and asked for assistance. I had zero response to all of my efforts. I emailed and let them know I would be filing a complaint with the BBB and still received no response. I hired another company to come clean the fireplace and not only did he clean out a massive amount of soot and creosote left behind, he was stunned to find that the prior serviceman left his plastic brush and pole stuck up in the chimney. He gave it to me and I identified it as the brush the 1st Choice serviceman was using, as it was distinctive and particularly flimsy, which I noticed at the beginning of the clean. Things happen and if he had explained that his pole broke off and that he would have to come back with tools to get it out and finish cleaning, we could have moved forward. The basis for liability under negligence stems from an individual's failures to behave with the level of care that someone of ordinary prudence would have exercised under the same circumstances. He knowingly put our home and our personal safety at risk with a smoke and fire hazard, and that is egregious. It took months to settle our claim with our credit card company and get our money back. I've had time to consider my review and to post the facts without heightened emotion. Not cleaning the fireplace well and not returning calls for assistance is enough for a bad review but purposeful negligence is grounds for not being allowed to do business in this industry. The business office of this company has no excuse for failure to respond.
