There are a few pubs surrounding the market place that gives the city this reputation, but one pub that's the exception is the Albert Inn on Segontium Terrace. I live on the same street and have been into this pub more than any other in the city, and walked past it most nights as well, and my opinion of the pub is that it's an old-fashioned quiet but friendly little pub that's full of character. The pub is old-fashioned in style but nicely decorated - with wooden floors and beams and wooden tables and chairs and bar. There's a pool table that takes up one half of the front of the pub, and a cosy area in front of a real fire in the other half. The bar itself is towards the back, along with some more seating. There's a variety of drinks available and prices are reasonable. There's a smoking area outside the back door which is excellent as it means there isn't anybody stood outside the front door smoking - I think even the nicest of pubs are affected by this image. Despite being English, I've never felt threatened in here and the regulars are all really friendly and chatty towards me.

We saw the bartender (whom I didn't catch his name) & we had a couple of questions but he kindly answered each & every one of them. Having two vegans from my party & myself being vegetarian, the chef & bartender were helpful in providing us their options. Once we placed our order my sister brought to my attention that they open at 12 though we were inside at 11:50. It was so kind of the two gents to help us & provide us with extremely great service. The food was simple yet hot & delicious; vegan/vegetarian all day breakfast.

After attempting to find a table at a few other restaurants in the area for dinner (and being turned away due to no tables), I found plenty of room at The Saracens Head. The building looks pretty new, clean and modern...if you're looking for an older-style pub atmosphere, this isn't the place. Upon being seated, a polite young lady dropped by to take our order. Interestingly, I found service in Wales to be overall pretty good, but much different than in the US. In Wales, there were rarely any introductions or pleasantries and orders were taken right away leaving me feeling a bit rushed to get moving through the meal. That was the case here...I asked for more time in an attempt to slow the pace. At any rate, I ordered and received a decent looking plate of food. Since I had hiked Mount Snowdon earlier in the day, I was looking for some hearty fare - steak and fries sounded good. Well? It looked good...and tasted okay. Unfortunately, the steak was a bit thin and cooked too much for my liking (not inedible, but not great...just okay.) The service staff was pretty bad in general and acted like they were doing us a favor and pretty much went out of their way to ignore normal requests. It was almost like they from the hospitality program at the local high school. For instance we ordered a more expensive bottle of AOC wine. Bottle was opened before it arrived at the table and the wine was pretty bad.

Dylan's is in a beautiful location directly on the water, and the atmosphere is elegant but relaxed. There's lots of inexpensive public parking at the nearby beach, so there's no need to worry about finding a place to park. The first night, I ordered the crispy sea bass tacos, and the quality of the sea bass was sensational. The next night, I had the herb and parmesan crusted hake fillet, which if anything was even more delicious. The hake was possibly the best fish I've ever eaten, and the creamy mustard leeks were spectacular. After a lot of heavy pub food while traveling in Wales, the light and refined food at Dylan's was a welcome change. The only thing that I didn't like quite as much was the dessert: I ordered the cinnamon churros, and while they were by no means bad, they just didn't wow me the way the rest of the meal had. Our servers both evening were friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. I also appreciated that Dylan's is open until 11:00 p.m., as many of the restaurants we ate at in Wales closed considerably earlier. If you're in Criccieth, I'd certainly recommend Dylan's!

Food served daily in the summer with a good choice of sandwiches, pies, salad ploughmans etc. A little on the pricey side but huge portions and location justify this. Staff are friendly and knowledgable about the area. Simply my favourite pub ever. Check out their webcam for an idea of the view and location.
