Longtime employees -- including beloved pharmacists -- were let go and lost their benefits. These were people who had worked at those pharmacies for years and were part of the fabric of our small towns. Now? It's a mess. I went to pick up a prescription I had called in two days earlier -- it wasn't filled. And I wasn't alone. Three other people in line had the exact same problem. The friendliness we were used to is completely gone. Instead of calling and talking to someone I knew and who knew me, I get a robotic voice system. Locals here in Suttons Bay have been voicing a lot of frustration. Bayshore Pharmacy used to be loved -- now it feels like a place no one likes, staffed by people who seem overwhelmed or totally untrained. It's a damn shame what's happened to these once-great community pharmacies.

I can dig it, though, because sometimes I am that person. But also, sometimes I am not that person, and I'm especially not that person when I just want to find a fully stocked aisle of children's medicine (Tylenol in bubble gum flavor, in fact) at a good price. Thankfully, Bridge Street Market is a little bougie, but not so bougie that it loses its Midwest Meijer roots. Anyway, I picked up my children's Tylenol, but I also stopped by the wine section before I checked out. Bridge Street Market has a large and fun wine area. I say fun because they take the time to label some of the wines on display with tasting notes and other descriptors. I was in the Italian section, so I picked up a bottle of Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, just based on how it was displayed on the shelf. The merchandising people at Bridge Street are doing a good job -- they made me pick up wine on a whim! (Which, to be honest, isn't that difficult, but still.) Most recently, I let an individual know I found a fairly large selection of products that were outdated by more than five months. The response I received was "I'll have to let somebody know tomorrow." They didn't even ask what specific brand or product it was, as I had told them a general item just to see if they'd show an interest in correcting this. They didn't. They recently remodeled the store, and it's a shame that a nice building like this is run in this manner.

Shelf item prices range from competitive to high but the convenience is nice as I can get in and out fast. I rarely have to wait long to check out and that alone is sometimes well worth the extra buck. Staff, for the most part, are pretty friendly. In fact, this is why I switched to Bunte's as my pharmacy. A simple smile goes a long ways. :) A solid 4 stars for the store and 5 gold stars for the pharmacy! Tips: - In case you are not aware, Bunte's is also a UPS drop-off site. YIPPEE! - Park in back if you're not comfortable with Main St. - They do prescription deliveries! This was super nice when I had a surgery and couldn't drive for awhile.

They are willing to go the extra mile for you should there be an issue with insurance, etc... This is something a larger pharmacy like Walmart, Meijer, or even CVS or Walgreens often times won't do for you. Despite being a hometown pharmacy, they, surprisingly, carry a good selection of prescription medication. So far, they've always had my prescription medication in stock. They also have a decent selection of hygiene and other home health products. Overall, in my opinion, Bunte's runs a good business.

A pharmacist was patient enough to calm me and walk me through a dosing mistake. We used this pharmacy for a few years and only changed pharmacies due to our insurance. The only negative for me is the parking arrangement - the lane in and out is a single lane.
