A friend of mine swears this is her favorite CVS, and since I was driving by yesterday I figured I would stop in because I assumed (I know, never assume) it had gotten better in the last decade (approx how long it had been since I was in last): no, it has not gotten better AND I think my friend needs to re-evaluate where she shops! I love CVS, I could roam around a well-organized, well-stocked and clean CVS for 45 minutes, but this location is none of that. On a beautiful Sunday afternoon when it seemed as though most people were outside enjoying the last weekend of the month, this place was a hot mess. While I did self-checkout (which I like and prefer to use, especially when I have already witnessed the cluelessness of the staff), I was able to listen to the girl at the register totally misunderstand what one customer was saying (she was the same employee who collided with me not just once, but TWICE in the aisles, not apologizing either time) and then the younger guy who was working who asked me "oh, why so sad" when I looked frustrated after the self-scan needed his assistance because my items in the bagging area were too heavy. For the love of God, my sad look (is it even possible to tell when we are all wearing masks??) was because I just needed to get out of there ASAP!! read more

AVOID THIS PHARMACY AT ALL COSTS!! Don't send your Rxs here. The pharmacy staff is HORRIBLE. They won't add any controlled prescriptions to their system when they get sent by your doctor.. which means you'll have to call or go in to ask them to fill it. Thing is- they REFUSE to answer the phone. I have literally been on hold for over an hour and driven to the Pharmacy while on hold to find no one in line. If they do answer the phone, it will be to tell you that there is a long wait... Then they will put you back on hold before you can say anything. Also, they constantly say that they are overwhelmed because of a holiday. But they always seem to have a holiday that they are referencing, whichever is closest to that day. It is the worst pharmacy by far that I have been to in New England. From the supporting staff to the main pharmacist- NO ONE is going to give you good customer service. All of them look overworked and annoyed, and you are going to leave feeling like you wasted a ton of your time unnecessarily just to be given bad customer service. And heavens forbid you ask for them to ring up a single item in addition to your medication when you check out... After you've been waiting 45 minutes to an hour to get your prescription... You will be told that they can't be bothered to ring up anything other than your prescription because they're so busy. Are you kidding me?? Tip for your employees: find a new job or get better at your current one. West Newton deserves better. read more

This pharmacy is consistently disappointing. While standing there they told me to have my doctor who was on the phone with me call them, and then literally ignored the phone while it rang repeatedly while he did and I stood there. They left the phone ringing for twenty minutes while talking to their coworker that is leaving and saying "they will miss but they'll still be hearing from on the phone if they do the transfers." This is not only disrespectful to the customers but also to the prescribing doctors that follow the directions they give. My doctor spent 20+ minutes away from patients trying to get through. 3 other frustrated customers walked away as well today alone- one was an upset elderly man saying he did not know where the other location was, and they did not care or help him. I've never had a positive experience here and would not recommend using this cvs location. It just happened to be closest to my doctors office. The parking lot is big but somehow is always hard to find parking. There is always a long line and wait as well. read more

Terrible pharmacy just like every other CVS in the area. I've used them all and you can be on hold for 45 minutes to an hour or stop in and wait 45 minutes in line to find out if a prescription is ready. The app is no help either and often gets it wrong. Many times there are only 2-3 people working there. These issues are not the pharmacists' fault however, it is that CVS underpays pharmacists and under staffs their locations. Three times I have received authorizations from my insurance company via snail mail while CVS tells me they're still waiting for approval from my insurance. When they double check, they all of a sudden have it. It's really pathetic! read more

This is the worst pharmacy experience that I've ever had to endure. I've been going to this CVS pharmacy for years due to convenience and have never had a pleasant experience. There are always MAX two people working, a line around the store for pick-ups, and don't even think about calling because you'll be on old for 3 hours. This CVS is right up the street and I shop there all the time. Their staff has done a heroic job during the pandemic, even in the beginning when they were risking their lives to show up. They treat my husband and I very well. Maybe it's because we say please and thank you and understand that sometimes they might be out of something or knee-deep in customers. But that's not the fault of their team. I also see how some of the other snotty, entitled customers behave, and the way the staff has very patiently served them anyway. ***It's a fully functional neighborhood drugstore, not a luxury spa or a Club Med Vacation. Adjust your expectations, perchance.*** My CVS card works great, all my electronic coupons work through the app. Easy peasy. How can someone be so obsessed with paper coupons yet expect five-star accommodations? Pick a lane lol. read more

This review is for the pharmacy, specifically about the insanely long wait times in person and hold times on the phone. I wait at a minimum 45 minutes either way. The pharmacy manager Gabby Dall is ALWAYS rude, not even her coworkers like her. No one will approach her. She needs to work an overnight shift in a hospital where she has no interaction with other human beings. We can only thank goodness she's a pharmacist and not a doctor, because she lacks all ability to communicate professionally. It's only a reflection on the company as a whole to let this continue. Calls to corporate fall on deaf ears with zero response or return calls. Not surprisingly, this review is not the only one of its kind. Huge problem in West Newton! They are awful, rude, and seem to delight in torturing people. They take days to process critical medications but when you show up at their pick up counter they lie and promise you that your prescription can be picked up in 30 minutes. The only time they answer their phone is at 1:30 and that's to tell you that it's 1:30 and they take their lunch break at 1:30 so I'll call back later. And then they promptly hang up. Forget about trying to get through later. read more

Every CVS should be the same in terms of functionality, selection of products and decent services. Unfortunately, that statement is far from reality. Over the past year I have started a hobby of couponing. If you are not aware, CVS is one of the best places to coupon. A constant issue of mine is finding enough stores in a general area to accompany if one store is out of one product, or when I need to find a lot of the same item having multiple nearby stores. Newton is lucky, there are six CVS locations in Newton. This makes it an appealing destination for my couponing trips on Sunday, plus most of the Newton stores are modern and friendly so that helps. This particular location is always a drag which is why it only gets three stars. From the difficulty of even getting into the store via the twenty stairs or the mile long ramp to the long checkout lines and limited variety of items, this is not one of the better Newton CVS locations. They did recently remodel, and it looks decent inside, but they didn't replace their ExtraCare Card machine to one of the newer machines and at least twice my coupons have gotten stuck inside the machine which always causes so many headaches (have to call the 1-800 number and have them reset the coupons to print and reimburse me for any of the qualifying purchases made). Staff, like the manager, Tom, and assistant manager, Maura, are all super friendly and helpful but this store just always seems to be a headache. They never have enough of whatever I'm looking for either! Good in a cinch, but other nearby CVS stores are considerably more reliable, easy to use, and easy to access. 3 stars. CVS store seems fine, but the pharmacy is a bit of a disaster. I had a prescription transferred here and received a text notification and call to say the prescription was ready. The next day when I went in, the prescription wasn't ready and hadn't even been processed. I had to wait to speak with a pharmacist again and then wait another half an hour to have it filled. Terrible pharmacy department! Ongoing unprofessionalism, inconsistencies, & arrogance from some staff. Today, the evening Pharmacist, "Jae", refused to fill my prescriptions "early" as I will be out of state. The medications were approved by my physician & my insurance company did not have any issues either. To add insult to injury, I was given different information by the Pharmacy Tech,"Lee", via a different female Pharmacist earlier today stating that all I needed was my doctor to call to provide verbal authorization which they did but "JAE" refused. His demeanor was the epitome of ignorance. Well, Corporate was made aware as was my insurance company & medical providers in the event I become ill. read more

The consistently make errors with prescriptions, don't submit insurance information correctly, can't problem solve, you have to ask the exact right question. Plus they never seem to receive prescriptions from the doctor until you show up and they look in he computer and scripts are rarely ready when promised. There are one or two actual pharmacists that are decent, as a whole a terrible place to deal with. read more

This Pharmacy holds the distinction of having the rudest staff of any that I have ever come across in my entire life. I specifically remember being yelled at (literally) by one pharmacist when I got in the wrong line. Meanwhile, my wife is home in pain waiting for the prescription while she tries to take care of a newborn with acid reflux. Thanks for the compassion. On the positive side, the Walgreens in Newton at the corner of Walnut and Commonwealth Avenue is a totally different experience. I am a huge lover of CVS: they have everything you ever need and they have great coupons. I've been a regular for years at a time of a few different CVS locations, and am always popping into to different locations when needed. NEVER has any other CVS been even slightly annoying, frustrating, or caused me so much anger as CVS West Newton does! I am so relieved to have stumbled across its yelp page today to realize I am not the only Newton resident in agony over this and there are many sharing similar frustrations. Not that I'm surprised, but misery loves company. I don't even know where to begin with the pharmacy................there is so much I could say, but I won't.....many of my predecessors have spoken for me. Coupon scanner. Everyone loves these money saving machines at every local CVS. This CVS's machine has NEVER worked any time I've ever gone. Never have I been to another CVS's who's machine did not work. It's either out of paper or just plain beeps. When I told the front cashier about this today after months of debate, she nervously laughed!!! Um, are you going to even acknowledge that you should fix it?!?!?! Unreal. On more than two occasions I've purchased things that the cashier did not put in the bag, or forgot to ring up at all. In addition, this specific store seems to be out of stock or does not carry many items found at most CVS's. This being the most convenient CVS location I keep coming back, and every time I leave I questioning if it's worth going the extra drive to a neighboring area. I really hope that management cares enough to read these 17 yelp reviews so that this location can improve or it will soon lose a lot of potential business, if it hasn't already. read more

The pharmacist is too stupid to realize that if they can't give me the full amount of a medication (and I have to come back three days later to get the rest), that this should NOT reset my refill date the next month. In BOTH cases I run out the same day and should be eligible to renew 3 days before my prescription runs out, not a period of time after they gave me all of my medication! Just think about that. If they had given me 20 days of pills on Day 1, and the last 10 days on Day 20, I would STILL run out 30 days from Day 1. The fact that I got those pills on Day 20 does not matter!!! Now I see why the pharmacist did not become a doctor. This is so simple to understand as to be inane. My 12 year son understands this and the pharmacist could not wrap his brain around it. read more

I gave up and moved my prescriptions over to Keyes because I got tired of having to call my doctor's office and say "The CVS says they never got the fax." And the nurses there, God bless 'em, having to take time out of their busy day to find my files and resend the prescription. When I complained to the pharmacy clerk that it had happened 3 times, her reply was, "oh, your doctor's fax must be broken." Only when the husband asks on the way home and it is particularly late (as in too late to get to the Newtonville store). As was mentioned before the layout is poor, the staff has no thought to anyone other than themselves - almost a "Whatever" attitude towards customers. I'm not normally a CVS pharmacy girl. However, I had surgery about a week ago and still lack the energy/willpower to flee my caretakers to go to my beloved Target. Caretakers, being from out of town, have decided we're going here because it's half a mile from where I live. Fine, whatevs. Cut to today: I sat in their pharmacy waiting area for almost an hour and a half while they insisted that they didn't have my prescription. Not cool for a girl who's holding onto her lunch by a thread. I'm just sayin'. Then when I tried to buy Prilsoec OTC at the pharmacy counter (as the card said to do), the pharmacists acted like I had just asked them to fill another prescription or something (oh, the horror). That said, the woman at the main checkout counter who ended up getting me the Prilosec was a total sweetheart. read more

The pharmacy is completely disorganized and is rude. Waited over an hour on hold just to have a 5 minute conversation with someone. My doctor wanted me to ask my pharmacist to see if my medication was available at a different location, and of course they can't help me with that nor tell me if they have it on stock at their location or another. I actually drove to the store while on hold and as soon as I pull into the parking someone picked up the phone. I'm dissatisfied with the service I received and the amount of time I was on hold for. When I first called someone picked up and told me there was three people on hold before me, I had a friend call from a different phone after 40 minutes and the person said the same exact thing. Are you just busy or are you purposefully not answering phone calls because of the Covid vaccine? Guess I will have to find a more reliable pharmacy! read more

This review is *only* due to Jessica, the new pharmacist. My last several visits to the pharmacy had been nothing short of frustrating-- and I only returned because our pediatrician had sent an Rx there in error. West Newton CVS was, of course, unable to fill it, but Jessica saved the day. Instead of assuring me that another CVS in the area had this medicine in stock (sending me in a fool's errand because no one ever does), she actually called **four** pharmacies, located it, and then called the pediatrician herself to ensure it got called in properly to the one that had the medicine. THIS is the kind of person CVS should be consistently hiring: friendly, helpful, efficient, and competent! read more

I've been here every month for over a year to pick up prescriptions, and have never had anyone be less than polite to me. The only mix up I have had occurred once when I came in to pick up a prescription without having received a call since this place is super close to my house. They said they couldn't fill it until a few days later due to insurance policy. Thanks for letting me know. Parking here is great with a huge private lot. There are plenty of people around to help you find something, and I have witnessed pharmacy employees take a lot of time with customers consulting them about all sorts of questions, even taking them through the aisles to show and describe products for them. What's not to like? Whenever I have come in with a new prescription, it takes less than the estimated 15 minutes and I'm out of there. Not a problem, and I've been coming here for a year. Pharmacy is so slow. I hate how you have to come into the store, drop the script off, then come in again to pick it up. I get that they want to ID people for pain pills, but if I have a freakin' ear infection I should be able to "drop it off" electronically. They should have a locker where I pick it up. Eleven years after my previous review, this CVS has not improved. I've gotten notifications saying that prescriptions are ready and when I arrive they're not ready. I've had prescriptions sent there and then I'm never notified that they are ready. And don't even bother trying to get on the phone with the pharmacy department - I've sat on hold for over a half hour before deciding to hang up and go there in person. They're just terrible. I live so close that I end up getting prescriptions sent there, but every single time I regret it. read more

I'm not going to write much about the pharmacy as I don't use the one at this location on a regular basis. However, I will say that once when one of my cats was ill and possibly needed to be syringe fed, and I could not find their baby syringes, a pharmacist said, "I'll grab you one from the back for free" and she sure did! Handed me 2 syringes of different sizes as I wasn't sure which one would fit my cat's pureed "sick" food. I thought that was nice. She didn't have to. And she saved me 4 or 5 dollars. As for the store, I love it. I go there to buy personal care items, groceries (cream and milk is cheap!), and household items. The staff is always friendly at check out. Parking is ample though it can turn into a cluster F sometimes. One thing though: I can't ever seem to find their tissue aisle. I've only seen them around the pharmacy area with a small selection. read more

This pharmacy is so aggravating everytime I come in. If it wasn't for the convenience of it I would of stopped coming in years ago. They've given me the wrong birth control, they've said my prescription is ready when it's not. Recently I called early in the day and asked for my prescription to be ready by 6pm. I got there at 6:10 to get it and was told there's been nobody working in "production" so I have to wait 15 min. Really? There's at least 4 employees working why can't they handle 5 hours notice on a small prescription??? I'll go to the other Watertown St location, I understand things happen but they need to get it together. read more

I am neither entitled nor unreasonable. I know what I should be able to expect from an establishment that is receiving my money. Today, when I called this pharmacy to transfer my prescription to another location (because I decided that the level of aggravation in dealing with this pharmacy was no longer worth it) an employee answered the phone "Yes?" with an attitude. That is not how I expect to be greeted at a place of business. The rest of the conversation was equally unpleasant. Thank goodness this will be my last experience with the West Newton pharmacy! I have always left this pharmacy appalled at the level of service I have received. Employees act as though customers are a burden, from rolling their eyes to letting the customer stand at the register for lengthy amounts of time without acknowledgement. This is unacceptable. There is undoubtedly a problam with the management, as most of the pharmacy employees act in this manner. This review will be followed up by a formal complaint to CVS.
