Kept 7 of my UPS packages for 11 days w/o scanning them in because the counter help did not like that I would drop off w/o waiting for receipt. DESPITE fact that I had OKed this with the store manager a year ago. THEN they tried to get me arrested for having the audacity to complain about.
To explain: I sell online. In "normal" places you can set a package on the counter and leave assuming you don't need a receipt.
A year ago, an employee chased me into the parking lot screaming at me so I called the store manager who explained that they should not do this, that the only real reason to be present was to get a receipt. I continued to set my packages on or near the counter. Sometimes they would say I had to wait in line but I would just leave, sometimes they would look at me and say nothing. Usually they were so understaffed that I saw no employees at all. My packages were always sent. NO ONE at the store ever called me about this ever.
Now I figured that being understaffed they might appreciate being able to scan the packages when they had time, but apparently it is a power thing for them.
Anyway, one day I was contacted by a customer. Their $800 order looked like I had just made a label and never sent their goods. Then another and another. I used Google Maps to retrace my timeline for the day those packages shipped. Lo and behold I had been to that CVS that day! I drop off at 4 or 5 places so I had no idea where these were.
So 11 days after dropping off these packages I went in and asked why. Neck tattoo girl behind the counter said it was because I had not waited in line etc. They tried to tell me that there was stuff that had to be typed in by me and that they had had to do it for me. That is a lie. All they have to do is scan it. The customer touches nothing. Then they said it was because I couldn't be "behind the counter"..uh...I don't think setting a package over the counter counts as me being behind it. The main question I wanted an answer to was "Do you think UPS approves of this?". At one point the shift manager...pink haired girl said that they would not. Maybe the only thing she said that was not BS.
I asked why they can't just scan them, why would I have to be there? Colored hair girl said they don't know what to do with a strange package that comes out of nowhere. "A UPS Access point doesn't know what a UPS label looks like?!" Well, she said that they might but they don't know if it has been scanned yet. They must think I am stupid becasue obviously you can scan things twice. That is how the systems work. It is what they are for.
Next, when she noticed I was recording with my phone held right against my chest, she said she was having to call the police because I was recording and that I had to delete the video. She said it was illegal to video someone like I was doing and that they were trained to call the police if it happened. LIES. It is not illegal and they did not tell the police about the video at all. They just thought that if they told me that I might stay around to get arrested. They had told the police I was causing a disturbance yet they had not once asked me to leave. I heard neck tat girl at one point say "if we don't do it, this will just keep happening". Hmmmm.....an interesting choice of words that got me thinking.
I left but later as I went through what had happened I realized they must not had not brought this to the attention of any real manager (or maybe they did and he said "let it go"?), because if they had, and it were a real issue, the manager would have CALLED me to say "Do it right or we won't send them." It is hard to believe that the end game solution to this "problem" was to basically steal my packages. read more
