I'm destitute. I'm worth negative $250,000. But V always says to take the absolute value and then I…read morehave lots of money! I went to PharMor because the Rite Aid down the block didn't carry peak flow meters (a home device used to monitor daily asthma). I knew this place existed and it carried medical supplies. That's how I met Sammi, Chief Pharmacist, of this particular PharMor Pharmacy (which is a Detroit owned independent pharmacy). Let me explain: despite living very close two both a CVS and a Rite Aid BOTH do not seem to have the meds I need in stock all the time. Which is shocking, or ought to be shocking. One day, I ran out of medications and I went down Woodward stopping at nearly every CVS/Rite Aid to get a perscription filled. The closest pharmacy that would consistently have the medications I needed? Yeah, the CVS on 13 mile and Woodward (so, about 13 miles from where I live). And CVS was charging me my first born to fill my scripts (more than $100). Side note: has anyone felt like they only build CVS and Rite Aids anymore? They are everywhere! One one every block, and more coming! I told Sammi this sad story. He looks a little shocked, but asks what meds I needed regularly that I couldn't find in Detroit. I told him and one by one, he shows me that yes, they actually really do carry my meds. I also lamented that I was in between insurances and I couldn't pay out of pocket $100+ despite the fact I needed my prescription refilled. Sammi said no problem, $30. My jaw dropped to the floor, folks. I thought he was totally pulling my leg. Teasing me to come in and get the script refilled by him. Sure enough a day later, and just as broke, I came back to have my prescription filled -- he was true to his word and charged me only $30. I seriously almost cried. I never ever had someone go out of their way at a pharmacy to help me out before. I have never been treated with so much respect from the pharmacy staff. I never thought I would go to an independent pharmacy! *AND* I never thought an independent pharmacy would be cheaper than CVS (it just never occurred to me that different places could charge a different amount for the same drug). The pros of going to PharMor over CVS or Rite Aid: - because of it's independence the pharmacist can and WILL find a way to make your prescriptions affordable - they have a great referral program (refer a friend, get $25 off) - they have almost any med you would need in stock - their generics aren't "crap" generics (there is a debating difference between generic manufacturers) - you are supporting a local business and what I thought was for sure dead: local pharmacies - you won't get told "oh, it'll be 15 minutes" and it ends up being a half an hour -- they will fill it in 10 minutes or less - although not 24 hours, they ARE open on Saturday (open, on a Saturday? In Detroit?! Whoa.) - you can email your pharmacist (just look them up on the website) I'm quite sure Sammi is just as good of a business man as he is a pharmacist -- because I'm hooked. No more long hauls up Woodward just to get my scripts filled. Salvation! There's more than the 1 location that I am writing about, there are quite a few surrounding the DMC -- and several more out in the suburbs: http://mypharmor.com/My_PharMor/Locations.html

I have been going here for about a year and have NEVER had a problem. They are the true "DIY" pioneers and the epitome of wonderful local business. This mom and pop shop is a great place to go for any and all meds plus it has a genuine gorgeous old-world feel. It's as if you just stepped into the 50's, the nostalgia of their vintage medical supplies display takes the cake. It's gorgeous and even if you don't need a prescription I suggest you go and check it out anyway, it's a sight to be seen. I had never heard of this little gem off the service drive until my doctor recommended them and I'm thrilled he did. Great customer service, honest hard working employees who are even willing to wait for you if you are running a little past closing time. Newer so called "diy" hipster pharmacies that try to be shops of whimsy should take note. Marinco is the best around!

When I was a young girl, my mom went to pharmacies just like this one. When I first walked into Marinco's, I felt like I did as a young girl again inside an old fashion pharmacy lol They carry everything but, if they don't have it, they'll get it for you without too long of a wait. Mike and Matt are seriously excellent, kind, and professional. I also adore Kayleigh (I didn't spell that right!) She is so nice, and it's just cool chatting with her. They know you by name, which really is so professional and a fantastic touch. For a while, my sons had to pick up my prescriptions, and they even knew their names. Chain pharmacies need to take a step back and try to learn who comes in every month. I won't name the other two pharmacies, but I'm telling you, they're so rude and act like they don't want to even be there working, let alone answering questions. I'm going to be transferring my two sons' scripts to Marinco's, as I can talk to Matt or Mike without feeling like I'm wasting their time.
